Grand Canal in Venice

in Worldmappin8 months ago
Hello everyone!

Venice is a unique city where instead of roads there are water canals. One of them stands out from the rest. This is the Grand Canal, the main canal in Venice, which divides the city into two parts. The first part of my tour of this city was a ride on the "vaporetto" water tram along this canal.

Witam wszystkich!

The canal on the map looks like an inverted letter S.

One end of the canal near Santa Lucia train station leads to the Venetian lagoon. This is the western side of the city.

Jeden koniec kanału w pobliżu stacji kolejowej Santa Lucia prowadzi do laguny weneckiej. Jest to zachodnia strona miasta.

After leaving the train station, there are stops for various vaporetto lines.

The other end of the canal leads to the San Marco basin, where it joins the Saint Canal. Mark (Canale di San Marco). The eastern side of the city.

Drugi koniec kanału prowadzi do basenu w San Marco, gdzie łączy się z kanałem św. Marka (Canale di San Marco). Wschodnia strona miasta.

From the technical data: its length is approximately 3.8 km, its width is from 30 to approximately 70 m, and its depth is approximately 5 m.

There are over 170 different buildings along the banks of the canal, with beautiful facades facing the water.

Most of the buildings were built between the 12th and 18th centuries and show the prosperity and art created by the Republic of Venice.

Większość budynków powstała między XII a XVIII wiekiem i pokazują dobrobyt i sztukę stworzoną przez Republikę Wenecką.

The architecture of the buildings is a mixture of different styles: Byzantine, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, neoclassical.

Architektura budynków to mieszanka różnych stylów: bizantyjski, gotyk, renesans, barok, neoklasyczny.

The banks of the canal are connected by four bridges, which allow you to get from one part of the city to the other.

Brzegi kanału łączą cztery mosty, którymi można przejść z jednej części miasta do drugiej.

Until the 19th century, only one of them existed - the Ponte di Rialto bridge. The newest Ponte della Costituzione dates back to 2008.

Do XIX wieku istniał tylko jeden z nich - most Ponte di Rialto. Najnowszy Ponte della Costituzione pochodzi z 2008 roku.

The other two bridges are Ponte dell'Accademia and Ponte degli Scalzi.

Pozostałe dwa mosty to Ponte dell'Accademia oraz Ponte degli Scalzi.

In the photo above you can see another vaporetto traveling on Line 2.

Na powyższym zdjęciu można zobaczyć inny tramwaj wodny pływający linią 2.

Thank you very much for the delivery.
If there is one city I would like to go to it is Venice because it is a lovely city of much love.
There is a song by Charles Aznavour called Venice without you that is one of my favorites and the canals of this city are very famous.
Likewise, I loved the images with the different types of architecture which gives the measure of the type of city that this Italian city is.
Thank you again for sharing this wonder.
Happy day.
Cheers and best regards.

One of the city that made me dream the most. Where I finally visited it, I couldn't even believe. Definitely one of my favorite places in Italy.
I'm so sorry to see it in 2024, honestly.
Would be nice to see Venice when she was the queen of Mediterranean :)

Yes, this city is unique and was undoubtedly even more unique and beautiful in its heyday :)
