The Mind Museum

Last year, for my birthday, as usual, my husband and my daughter asked me what I wanted to do for my special day. To be honest, I just wanted to just stay home, crochet to my heart's content, sleep in, crochet some more, until it's the next day. But seeing that they wanted to do something, we went ahead and went out on a family date to the Mind Museum.

If you're looking for a science field trip without having to go out of town, The Mind Museum is the place to be. As soon as you enter the museum, you'll see right in front of you the wonders of science. The first spot we went to was the display of the wild life in the Philippines. There, we saw the different stages that a pearl goes through before it becomes those shiny little things we put in our accessories. I love how kids can go ahead and use the magnifying glass to take a closer look at the pearls on display. There's also spot where there are wooden sculptures that you can place on a platform and it will display all the information about your selected wooden sculpture. Right away, the little person enjoyed the exhibits.

Next, we went to the Universe Gallery. There's a pod where you can enter and just hear the sounds of the universe. It sure sounded scare out there. Then there's an interactive display where you can select the galaxy you want to learn about and it will display the information for you. I love how the little one takes her time to read all the information. After going to 2 museums and one online museum, she now knows how to get the most out of her museum visits. She has read some books about how planets are formed so whenever she reads the information on the display, she would affirm to me that what was written there was true and correct. You may also want to watch some short film shows about the origin of the planets or about the sun but you have to catch the schedules. I was taken aback by the tunnel that simulates how it feels like to be in outer space. I sure am not built to be an astronaut. We took some time playing at the miniature space ship with the doll astronauts. The inner kid in me just had fun playing doll astronauts there.

We also went to the rocks and fossils and dinosaurs exhibit. There's a T-rex display in there. "Woah! Just like the one in the Night at the Museum!" My daughter exclaimed. She went on imagining if that T-rex actually comes alive at night, what would happen? Haha. There are lots of interesting displays of rocks and fossils that kids would really be interested in looking at. The Mind Museum put up some funny reading boards explaining how fossils are formed. Then there's the display showing how a volcano erupts.

Our next stop Atom gallery. I especially love the microscope pen thingy they have there. We were able to see different things up close. And I mean up close. We saw how a butterfly wing looks like at a microscopic level. I have that microscope pen in my shopping cart already in my online shopping app, ready to be purchased once we start studying that part of Science.

Before we went ahead and go upstairs, the little person joined a quick science program discussing the importance of washing hands. She was enjoying watching and interacting with other kids, I was just enjoying taking a break. My legs are killing me with all the walking and climbing. We went up the T-rex exhibit then down again then we went and experienced the earthquake simulator. If you do visit the Mind Museum, don't forget to experience the static ball. I was looking forward to that, but my husband still needs to be trained a little bit more with photographing the entire view. Well, there's always a next time. On my next birthday month maybe.

On the second floor is an exhibit of technology. All the different inventions, creations, and wonders of human ingenuity is showcased there. As soon as you go upstairs, you will be greeted by a giant kaleidoscope. Althroughout the upstairs visit, I was singing Francis M's song Kaleidoscope world. LOL. There we saw how the first cars looked like, the first boats and ships, different ways of producing power and electricity. There was also a display of how the first telephone looked like in 1876.

I can say we all had fun with all the displays in the Mind Museum. The only let down during our visit was the travelling exhibition. That month, the exhibit was called Connected to the Wild. I'd say it was a bit of a waste because it was all just LCD display of the life and death of wild animals. The staff and crew did give us a disclaimer so yeah, we still chose to pay the tickets and go through with it. Overall, our visit to the Mind Museum was a day well spent. It was full of fun, wonder, and learning. It's a perfect way to spend a birthday with the family.
