In the 1930 Paul Nathan Domke bought this low lying land near the shores of Lake Huron. Over the next 37yrs he would turn it into the Dinosaur Gardens we know today.
Located in the small town of Ossineke Michigan you'll find this icon. The road it sits on, US 23, was the main highway of it's day and brought generations of people here to visit. In later years I-75 was built and traffic was by-passed.
Dinosaur Garden is a very unique place. Domke contacted the Huron Portland Cement Company to get special cement made to sculpt these structures. It's made from cement, sand, lime, calcium, stearate, liquid asphalt and has stood the test of time.
He paid great attention to detail and studied each animal before creating it. Domke claimed that every dinosaur in the park is the exact size it was when they roamed on the earth.
Here is a photo dump of his creations in the park. Enjoy checking them out!!!
Starting in the early 80's a new owner added to the park. It now featured a Putt Putt Golf course, fossil dig and Miners Sluice. The park really does offer something for everyone.
You can pay $10 to walk just the park or get a combo and do several activities. Leaving the park you'll notice a special part of the park. The artist made this Brontosaurs you can climb inside. The heart of the creature is Jesus.
Hopefully you enjoyed our stop here at the Dinosaur Gardens. You should check it out if you're in the area. They are closed for the season but will be opening again for Spring 2023!
