Walk Around Cape Tourville LightHouse at Dawn, Freycinet Peninsula

in Worldmappin3 years ago

Dawn light casts such a magical spell over everything. It can be amazing how long it lasts too, especially if you arrive at a place before dawn and watch the sun just come up and then rush along to the next viewpoint. That's what I did on this morning, heading to the lighthouse at Freycinet National Park, Tasmania. I like to visit lighthouses mainly because my husband does, and even though I kick up a fuss, saying 'what, another lighthouse?' secretly things that bring HIM joy bring ME joy too.

Besides, you always get spectacular views from lighthouses.

This one had an awesome walking platform all around it so there were views from every section. Even though it was a fairly short walk, it was still beautiful, and it took a while as I had to keep stopping and taking photos.

It's also a great spot to watch whales (as well as sea birds, sea-eagles, seals and dolphins), but it wasn't really the time of year to do so. They did have a really groovy measuring demonstration on the boardwalk though, so you could see how long an orca might be, or a blue whale - fantastic for kids.

The islands off shore were home to lots of nesting birds. With no natural predators on the islands, they were a real safe haven for birds that are threatened in many places, especially with us tourists traipsing all over their beaches with dogs and the like!

You can walk up here from town - about 10 km, I think - but I was keen to get onto the next place. Lighthouse, tick. Sunrise, tick. Next was surfing - tick. It was just the beginning of what was a really amazing day. Dawn's always worth getting out of a warm toasty bed for, don't you think?

I love dawn....

on night shifts i stare at the windows... waiting hoping, watching them turn. Hoping that its an awesome golden sunrise. whatever it is ... its a sign its all nearly over... lol...

it wakes me up from my sludgy 2-4am night shift stupors where i can't even write a single word.

such a pretty walk and lovely photos.

Have a great day

Sarah

Oh man yes dawn is hope and joy!! Even after a sleepless night... Like last night. I'd still rather greet the dawn with it's beauty than struggle through a measly hour trying to sleep ... Saying that a sleep in would be nice, I just can't!!! I didn't know you did nights, that must be hard!

Yeah - Nurse in ICU -
Can be rough. Wake at dawn... up all day with kids... got to work at 10pm instead of bed... try desperately to stay away till 07:30am come home and go to bed. its 27 or so hours awake in a row.

coffee... coffee gets be through... waiting for the sun to come up..

Hell!! Kudos to you. Nurses, teachers, paremedics... What careers.

I to love the early morning light and what a beautiful place to catch it so beautiful

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Awesome photos and again thanks for bringing back memories. I still remember the exhausting hike to the wine glass bay lookout. But it was worth it.

Oh gosh I have yet to do that walk... Just did Cape Huay and WWOW... My legs!!

as far as i remember it was a pretty hard walk. i also remember that walking down to the wineglas bay, mozzys were eating us alive.

Oh bloody mozzies. Wonder what time of year it was. My legs are still killing me from Cape Hauy!

I've always loved being up for dawn's light...
