It has been over fifteen years since we have been to Marion Bay, on Tassies East Coast. It was the home of the Tassie Falls Festival, which we worked at in exchange for tickets years ago. Revisiting on this trip, we see very little has changed. There's a lot of farmland, a few shacks and houses, an incredible bay and estuary, and stunning beaches.
My mate and I wanted to surf, but it was a bit windy, especially for me on the SUP.
However, in the distance, we could see Boneyard breaking. The break forms out of almost flat sea on an outer reef - quite the mammoth paddle. We could just see it via the binoculars.
To get there, we had to take the 4wd track along the spit which was great fun with my mates in the back. It had been raining so we had some spectacular mud and water to go through.
After a walk on the beach we headed to the next town of Dunalley, five minutes up the road, for one of Tassies famous scallop pies. I'm not overly keen on them but Jamie enjoyed it!
But what he REALLY enjoyed was spotting a farm full of Landrovers. Screeching to a halt, he took the next right and pulled in their driveway. The young man whose cars they were came out with his Dad to admire our Series 3. Apparently we gave them quite the inspiration. That made Jamie feel really good, as he has put so much work into it.
Jessie had only been collecting Landrovers for two years. He had taken a shine to them when he bought his Defender and own Series 3 and had been buying them up to sell their parts.
It was really cool walking around and looking at them all. One of the things we love about them is they have such a history - every owner has also put their own mark on them too.
Jessie politely kept his distance from us, saying he had a cold. Since they opened the borders, COVID has ripped through the Tassie youth. We weren't worried about getting it, except that we didn't want to spend our holidays with a cold.
After we got home, we got an Instagram message from him telling us he just dida RAT test and DID have COVID, all the way out in the middle of nowhere. Now that's probably not a crazy thing if you live in areas where COVID is common, but Tassie escaped it until a month or so ago, so it was a little interesting!
We reassured him we didn't care, because we are all bound to get it eventually.
What a lovely day, all told. A few days on, we still don't have it, so there you go. All's well that ends well.

Oh, no. When J. sees Land Rovers we know where it goes. I like how those aluminium bodies just refuse to die and rot away. This covid thing just hits the nerves... today my brother called me advising I don't go back to mom's place because of covid. I said I don't give a shit anymore.
Oh no that's crazy. We are all at the point we just would rather get it and be done with it.
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Oh my goodness - Marion Bay - that takes me back several decades!!!
Love the moss growing on the side of that old Landy..! And yes, we ARE all likely to get it.... this year, next year and then again, as it evolves. Take some extra Vit C things and know that being happy & relaxed is as great a prophylactic as there is. Enjoy the moments. x
I'm taking Vit C, zinc and good old fire cider!!! Happy to get it once I'm home!! Honestly Marion Bay hasnt changed a bit... Nice in this over developed world!!!
How good is that moss? I love how each one tells a little story.
Hope you dodge the bullet while on Tassie! Lots of cool old vehicles at that place.
Yeah it's like a history lesson in cars. Funny how much I've learnt about them too... And I'm not really a car person!
Nor me, but I learned a lot from my husband over the decades...
It's a shame they don't learn about cooling from us 🤣🤣🤣
????
Cooking ahahaha
ha ha A Land Rover with the bonnet open! Highly unusual 😄

Oh make sure you let me know when you blog about it. Seems like she's been a great workhorse and you enjoy mechanics like my husband. We have a TD5 in our Defender 130.
What a beautiful beach, even in this dark weather.
Awesome collection of the Landrovers. My husband likes them, but I don't really know much about them.
Looks like you guys had a great trip even though you didn't get to surf.
Oh yes even in the wind and rain it was a lovey day. The next day was much sunnier!! We even went swimming.
That's nice. Wish I could go swiming right now in the ocean or a lake. Can't wait.
It was freezing but lovely! I hope you get to swim soon.
Oh Awesome pictures and very good collection of Landrovers.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
It is my pleasure...
Rational thinking at its finest - I’m glad to have you out there in the world :)
This looked awesome! I keep hoping I’m going to see a HaveYouBeenThere post of someplace I’ve been, but so far the world just appears to get bigger and bigger!
Really cool post, I’m glad I checked it out!
Where do you live? Do you travel a lot? It's funny how the world is both big AND small!
It's amazing how many people are still irrational about this virus!
I’m in Maryland (US), and I would say my travel is pretty minimal. I usually take one vacation per year, and typically I stay local. I’ve got two little kids that make travel a little more difficult right now, but I am really hoping the whole world won’t be locked down by the time they’re old enough to go do fun things. The world is already so different from the one I grew up in. My oldest daughter (5) always wants to go roam the neighborhood. It’s so hard saying no (or not without me or mom there) when I know I grew up on the same planet and was able to roam free until dinner time; if it keeps going this direction, I fear our children will lose so much more.
I do long for the freedoms of our youth. I guess we have to be careful of believing the world is UNFREE and unsafe which may prevent us leaving our front door at all. We were anxious leaving home on this trip but I'm glad we did. I hope you can teach your kids to find other freedoms like wilderness hiking in your stupendously large and beautiful part of the world. I miss the 90s big time.
All true! It really is up to us to decide what kind of world we live in - what you believe is what you see, and this place is heaven among the stars for an oxygen breather like myself :)
Love this sentiment soooo much!!!! Thanks for these hopeful words 💖

Wow very nice post!
Thanks. Happy Wednesday from Australia.
In Venezuela, old land rover vehicles are very valuable, that would be a treasure here for lovers of the brand
