Hello there! It's my 16th post in the new World Map Pin community! Trying to do the tag as well! If you haven't read about them, please take a look at this link.

As background, I have done a few overseas trips last year, as some of my friends here would know, and I have been wanting to share some of the interesting places that I have visited. However, life has been busy and I have been procrastinating penning these entries and recently, I revisited this target of mine and finally broke the inertia!

One of my memorable trips in 2023 was to Tokyo, Japan, and during that trip, I did quite a few day trips to nearby cities and towns. This included trips to Karuizawa, Atami, Nikko, Kamakura, of course, Tokyo itself.

In 2024, which was earlier this year, I was back at Japan once more. This time, it was to Osaka, Japan. After a trip to the surrouding places like Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe, we are back at Osaka itself!

This would be my final post for my Japan Trip, and I thought of saving the best for the last, which is my favourite sights around Tokyo, the capital of Japan. To everyone who is reading, thanks for following my journey, it has been a great one and I had fun writing them and I am really extremely thankful to the support, comments, curations, and all the engagement in all the posts!

One of my favourite places in Tokyo would be Asakusa. The main attraction is here is Senso-ji, which is a Buddhist temple. Apart from the architecture of the temple gate and temple grounds, there are many little stores in this area which sell delicious Japanese snacks. And my favourite ones are those Matcha shops in the little alleys in this area. As you can see from the photos, it's also quite crowded as locals do visit this place to get blessings as well.

The next place which I went was Shibuya. I chose this place because I missed out on this area during my previous visit some years ago and I wanted to check out the area in my recent trip. This is the Hachiko statue, and there is an interesting back story on this. I took this summary from Wikipedia for those who are interested to read more about this loyal dog.

Hachikō (ハチ公, November 10, 1923 – March 8, 1935) was a Japanese Akita dog remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, Hidesaburō Ueno, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following Ueno's death. Hachikō was born on November 10, 1923, at a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture. In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor at the Tokyo Imperial University, brought him to live in Shibuya, Tokyo, as his pet. Hachikō would meet Ueno at Shibuya Station every day after his commute home. This continued until May 21, 1925, when Ueno died of a cerebral hemorrhage while at work. From then until his death on March 8, 1935, Hachikō would return to Shibuya Station every day to await Ueno's return. During his lifetime, the dog was held up in Japanese culture as an example of loyalty and fidelity. Since his death, he continues to be remembered worldwide in popular culture with statues, movies and books

Next, another one of my favourite activity would be to go up observatories to look at cities from a high vantage point. This was Shibuya Sky and the sights here were amazing! One could see various parts of Tokyo and fortunately, the weather was pretty good and I could get good photos that day.

What was amazing was that they had an open area on the top of the building for visitors to wander around. I guess it also acts as a helipad too. The green grounds coupled with the blue skies really looked awesome in my view.
