Hi 😎👋🌞

If you're looking for a peaceful yet captivating experience in northern Portugal, Leça da Palmeira is the perfect destination. In this post, I'll take you along on my early morning walk through this charming coastal town.

There's something magical about early mornings, especially during the last days of summer. The air is cool, the streets are quiet, and the day holds so much promise. So, last week, I decided to take a morning walk through Leça da Palmeira, a little coastal gem in northern Portugal.

The sun was already climbing in the sky, filling the world with a warm glow. Above me, the sky was a perfect blue, not a single cloud in sight. It was one of those days that made me feel lucky to live close to the ocean. If you ever get the chance to visit this quaint town, you’ll understand what I mean.

As I made my way down the streets, I noticed an unusual buzz of activity. Groups of people were stretching, jogging on the spot, and chatting excitedly with one another. It didn't take long to realize that a marathon was about to begin. Leça da Palmeira is known for hosting these local events, especially ones that cater to amateur runners.

Seeing all these runners preparing for the challenge reminded me how alive this town is, even on a quiet morning.

A little further along, I reached one of Leça da Palmeira most iconic landmarks the Fort of Leça da Palmeira. This historic fort, perched proudly on the coastline, has been standing guard over the town for centuries. Originally built to protect against pirate attacks, it now offers visitors a window into the past.

The fort is a reminder of Portugal rich maritime history and its deep connection to the sea.

As I continued my walk, I couldn't help but admire the charming houses that lined the streets. There’s something so quintessentially Portuguese about the architecture in this town. Many of the houses are painted in warm hues, soft yellows, pastel pinks.

Some homes have beautiful, intricate azulejos, the traditional Portuguese tiles that tell stories through their patterns and designs. These tiles are often blue and white, depicting scenes from history, religion, or nature. It's like walking through an open-air art gallery.

Another thing that I noticed me during my walk was how many churches I came across. In Portugal, it's almost impossible to explore a town without coming across at least a couple of churches, and Leça da Palmeira is no exception. Religion is woven into the fabric of Portuguese culture, and it’s reflected in the architecture and way of life.

There's something about this time of year that makes me want to hold on to every last bit of sunshine, every warm breeze and every carefree moment. Leça da Palmeira, with its relaxed pace and stunning coastal views, was the perfect place to soak it all in.

The sun was shining brightly and the sky was as blue as ever. It was one of those days that felt like summer was never going to end.
