Hello fellow travellers, in this post I will continue to tell you about my holiday trip, and after leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina I returned to Croatia to visit this place called Korčula, which is practically in the south of Dalmatia.
I honestly didn't think it was such a touristy place, it's true that Croatia has been growing in terms of tourism lately, and I've noticed a lot about the fact that prices have gone up compared to last year, but instead I discovered that this island was already frequented in the early 1900s by a lot of Austrian tourists who practically built the first bathing establishment here.
It seems that this island has become the perfect place to live as a digital nomad.
I made friends with a couple of people who live here and they told me that this place always has a very mild climate, in fact a lot of elderly people come to live here for health reasons.
I must say that I really enjoyed walking in these beautiful streets because they are sheltered from the sun, plus there is a cool breeze that does not make you sweat.
I slept in a beautiful guest house, shared with people, and the owner told me that the famous Marco Polo was born here on this island, I was stupidly convinced that he was born in Venice, instead you have to think that at that time Venetian rule reached here.
What struck me about this place is that it is full, I repeat full, of restaurants and bars of all kinds, you are spoilt for choice and in the evenings there is a lot of social life for young people.
On a tourist level, the one to visit here was Marco Polo's house, which I didn't actually understand where it was located, but instead I took a walk to the Venetian tower Veliki Revelin, which practically was a kind of bastion when there was Venetian rule, but now only the tower remains and can be visited with twenty Croatian kuna, their local currency.
A discovery I also made thanks to the owner of the guest house, and the fact that the real wealth of the island, however, is not tourism but agriculture, especially viticulture, because practically 80 per cent of Croatian wine is produced here and exported all over the world, mainly red wine.
I forgot that to get here you have to travel more or less 150 km from Dubrovnik.
From my point of view it is worth it because the island is worth a visit, even if in summer because of tourism there is a bit too much chaos, I recommend coming here in spring or even autumn because in the end it is never cold here.
