Al Sahaba Mosque in Sharm El Sheikh 🕌

in Worldmappin3 years ago (edited)

Turns out this is my 900th post on Hive. I'm really happy to see how the community has grown over time and I love having a platform to share the photos from my trips. Today, another platform was officially launched on Hive blockchain, dedicated solely to photo content. It's called Liketu and it reminds me of Instagram a lot, but it's blockchain-powered and with monetizable features. I did my first post there today although I think there are still some bugs pestering it. Regardless, I'm glad to be part of the start and I hope it will flourish just like Hive is.

Architecture is a big part of Sharm’s charm - check out the photos of the Sahaba mosque and the old town square.

This mosque is located at the Old Town and is one of the most beautiful mosques I’ve seen. It looks really magnificent and one would think that it’s been here for ages but I learned there that it was only built in 2017. Anyways, it’s a beautiful addition to the city’s architecture.

There’s a nice square in front of the mosque, with plenty of seating areas and cute flower pots with large cactuses in between. My mom would love this.

I liked this combination of the street lamps, the amphoras and the bike.

One thing that surprised me a little bit was how well guarded the whole old town is. Every visitor has to pass through a security checkpoint with a metal detector. I knew that security has been taken seriously in Sinai peninsula especially after a passenger airplane was destroyed by a bomb in 2015 but I didn’t know what exactly to expect.

Regardless of the security concerns, the town was buzzing with tourists. It seems that this year people are a bit more keen to travel, at least to places where you just need a vaccination report or a PCR upon landing and where the covid measures are not too harsh. In Sharm, the bars and clubs closed at midnight, and masks were mandatory at the airport and other public spaces like banks. Apart from that, it’s life as we once knew it. Entertainment and all.

The square started to get emptier after 11 PM and I managed to snap a photo of the little mountain within the city before returning home.

That’s it for today, next time I’ll share some photos of the musical show that you can get a glimpse of in the photo above.
