Maps on PeakD.com

Our team is full of travelers and explorers, we love maps... it's been a long time coming to get a good functional map on PeakD.com ... at @hivefest in croatia we talked to the new @worldmappin team and they were not just willing but excited that we may integrate something. So we did... right there in one of the off days at hivefest the amazing @asgarth coded it all up right on the spot. There are possibilities to integrate more things into the map and there are possibilities that the @worldmappin team does so themselves. We are excited for the potential of maps.

Right now the map focuses on showing posts located all around the world.
Users have added a GPS coordinate on their posts (and you can too) the WorldMappin team over the course of many years has curated the posts to make sure there is a certain standard of accuracy.

This also means that the map doesn't automatically include all posts ever made that have the GPS in the post... the WorlMapPin team curates the posts and it's their Data Base that they provide with the pins and posts.

MORE TO COME
The PeakD team is hoping to add more items on to the map in addition to WorldMapPin pinned posts.

HOW TO GET TO THE MAP

image.png

THE MAIN MAP

  • Numbers indicate there are lots of pins in that area and you should zoom in
  • Red pins mean you can click on them and see what post is from that location

image.png

VIEW THE POST ON MAP VIEW

  • Easy to click a pin and read the post from that location
  • Easy to get back to the map

image.png

QUICK VIEW OF LOCATION IN THE POST

  • We have also added a zoomed in map inside your post
  • This is ONLY for posts made on PeakD.com since the change (a good reason to post with peakd)
  • This map has a pin to ONLY the location indicated by the post

image.png

ADD A PIN TO POST

  • Click map button
  • Select location on map

Adding Locations to OLD POSTS?
In theory this is awesome and we suggest everyone to map all their old location based posts... BUT... the @worldmappin team has informed us they're working on getting that functionality to work correctly. So hold off on it until they fix it.

That's all you have to do and the correct code will be in your post

MAP ON YOUR PROFILE

  • Users can put a map tab in their profile so people can see all the locations of their posts.
  • You can go through all your old posts and easily add the location to those posts (once @worldmappin fixes this to work)
  • This should help make this map better

image.png

ADD THE MAP TO YOUR PROFILE

  1. Select "PeakD Settings"
  2. Scroll to "Account Metadata"
  3. Select "Enable Maps View"

If you click on that button then the map tab will show up in your profile

FEEDBACK

  • What do you like the most?
  • Are you going to edit your old posts with locations?
  • What else would you like to see on the map besides WorldMapPin posts
  • Any issues you have experienced you'd like to inform us about?

Love it love it love it!!!! - Great work guys!! I like the most, that now we can implement the location right at post creation and don't have to get the code first anymore... also that the location is shown within the post is something our users always wanted! - We are working on the implementation of old posts - will let you know about it as everyone obviously would like to do that now!!

I also really liked the idea we had on the boat about places of interest and showing the locals.. but let´s talk about what's possible there. So happy to work with you on that! <3

That should be nice. :)

We should really have meetups more often, see what can be achieved during a short meetup!

One thing I would like to see when getting the code for the post, is a search for location function in addition to zooming in. That would be really helpful if we can't easily locate the exact point which often happens when we visit more obscure places.

And for lazy people like me, is there a shortcut to get to my own map directly. I know you can filter by username at the map, or add /maps to the end of my blog, but thought I'd ask anyway 😊 thanks

I've noticed a lot of implementations took place after Hivefest. It seems like the meetup motivated all the attendees to move forward with their projects and ideas, leading to faster implementation.

Excellent This is really very useful, thank you for giving us so many good options in peakd. This is something really very useful for those of us who use and like to mark our posts on maps so that everyone knows the location. Thank you very much for giving us this new option for peakd users. 💕🤩🙏🏼

So cool! I'm a regular contributor to the Worldmappin community and map which is why this PeakD updated excites me. I'll be testing this within this week as I have planned to contribute another post for Worldmappin.

Thanks PeakD team. I'm amazed by your efficiency in implementing updates. Not only for the WMP map but also with the Comment Rewarder icon on each post too. Great job 👏🏻🍻

Oh man, we are so excited about that happening!! Well done guys!! Looking forward to the next steps. Let´s talk about ideas and future implementations @peakd. 🐝👍

It was obvious from the talks at HF9 that this would happen but you guys were really fast!
Great work!

Just enabled the map on my end. This is so helpful! I wouldn't be able to discover everything on my own :D

Hello Team. Great job. I am able to do some of the things you pointed out. I am not able to get QUICK VIEW OF LOCATION IN THE POST or add my map to my profile. Both would be cool options.

Oh that's so cool, it's so fun to try to find bloggers and posts around your homeplace :)

I was surprised actually how many pins there were in Estonia, I can't even go through all of them, but I went through a few and I even discovered some bloggers that I didn't know about who reside here in Estonia.

this is simply an awesome development and collaboration

This map is amazing. We can see all the hivers that have been around the world.
It is incredible that my publications appear on the map and that I am the user with more travel reviews in Colombia.

I don't personally plan to use it, but I like to see this kind of integrated service.

Great news, will definitely check this!!

Amazing, Great job!

the WorlMapPin team curates the posts and it's their Data Base that they provide with the pins and posts.

Nice feature, I think, I can add the same location to each of my post, since I post from the same place ? If yes, then how does it get part of curation by the @worldmappin team, that is decided based on location ? I thought, worldmappin is more for travel posts ?

It is @sanjeevm. We will curate your content on the map if it is posted also in our community and follows our rules. One of them is that it has to be travel related.

One of them is that it has to be travel related.

Exactly, I was thinking that, so adding location to our other posts does not make sense, right ?

That is just awesome... Immediately found several posts about locations that I love that I never would have discovered without the map! Awesome work from all parts involved!

Freaking awesome
