Evening bike ride through the snowy forest of Shegli Mountains, Inner Himalayas.

After a long day of exploration of random places in the inner Himalayas, it was now time to get back to our home. The sun was already down behind the mountain Range on the west side, and it was slowly becoming darker and colder with each passing second. We didn’t had track of time while we were exploring the different places inside the woods and now it was time to hurry up because in the evening time, there are high chances of encounter with wild animals on our way back home.

Our bike was parked on the side of the road in proximity to the snow all day long, and when we got back to our bike after exploring the woods for a long time all day, it wasn’t starting up. The electric start wasn’t even working at all, so we tried the manual start, and that too didn’t work even after multiple tries. We kept on trying for about five minutes as it was our only hope to get back to our home and there were no one else apart from us in the woods that we were standing in.

After turning on the choke option on the motorbike, it’s summer house started and it started with a lot of spoke and we didn’t wanted to shut down again, so we push the accelerator hard enough so that the engine was warm back again. Luckily, when we turned off the choke, the bike was stable.

It happened because of the cold and there was one. Also another reason for it that the bike was really old. Luckily, it started, and now it was a time to get back to our homes. We need to cross all the villages that we encountered on our way, and it was going to be a long journey back home.

Because of the snow present on the road sides, we were feeling very cold as at this time of the day there was no sun to warm the temperature up like the morning time when we were coming to this place.

And to be very honest, we were not at all prepared to be in the snow as you must have seen in my previous post. I was wearing sneakers and walking on the snow, so that was also adding up to the cold that we were feeling at the time. my socks were completely wet, and while we were moving in the bike, the cold air was striking onto my feet and making them really cold.

We were still passing through the woods and this road was about 2 km through the woods. This was the most crucial part of our journey as this part was full of snow as well as it was passing in between the Jungle, and there were high chances of us encountering a wild animal.

We pray to God that we passed from here safely without any miss happening as the nearest village was about 3 km away from the place, we were riding. In the photograph, you can see one road that was moving towards that led to a very remote village from the road which we didn’t even know the name of!!!

We were losing elevation as we were moving downwards in this curvy road. It was a good thing because as we lost the elevation, the temperature was slowly becoming warmer and snow was not present on the lower heights. Another point that was bonus for us was there were less chances of encountered with wild animals. Now as the Jungle region was up in the mountain that we were leaving behind.

In the photograph below, you can see a sharp curve that was on the edge of the Jungle. Through this photograph, you can visualise how quickly we were losing the elevation and how quickly we even gained it while we were coming to visit this remote place in the inner Himalayas.

After crossing this sharp curve, we could see some signs of human interference, such as sounds of horns and vehicles moving at a distance, and now we were relieved that we are now near to the human civilisation.

From this curve, just after moving for about 2 to 3 minutes, given out of the forest and now we were very near to the Shegli Village.

There was no snow around us now, and I was feeling a lot better as the temperature was normal back again. I was feeling a little bit cold, but I was feeling relieved as we got out of the dangerous region of the road safely and also in time. I was considering myself lucky because I imagine if the bike wouldn’t started, we would have been struck there for really long time and it could have been a really miserable evening for us as there were no signals in middle of the woods and the nearest signal point was about 3 km away, and that too after crossing the dense forest in between snow and cold winds.

Now we just need to elevate down from the Shegli Mountain and witness, those beautiful villages that we saw on our way back.

I’ll be writing about my journey back home in the coming blogs as it’s better to segregate the regions in which we were riding back down and also this post has attended a good length now.
