Yesterday Lee and I went into an area called North. At the back of Central Station in Amsterdam you hop onto a free ferry that takes you across the canal. It was an exceptionally hot summers day and I was very happy to have worn a pair of shorts and to have remembered to wear a cap - and my new sunglasses.
What makes this cafe unique is its location and its previous occupation. Before this area became a cultural hotspot, it was home to the headquarters of the multinational Shell. The highrise office building right next door became the ADAM Lookout Tower with a viewing platform on the roof and a hotel inside the “Sir Adam” hotel. Source web site
Here there are lots of places to visit but our main purpose was to have lunch. This was my birthday treat from Emma. Thank you Emma - this really was something different and unusual.

Peaceful and tranquil section of the canal in North

Hotel with a restaurant on top and swings - for the not so faint hearted
Very tall building
Brisket sandwiches on sour dough bread with sawerkraut
We both indulged in one of these and then went next door to Polly's for a cappuccino***
Delicious cappuccino

Further up the road there is the Eye Cinema Museum - would like to visit that sometime with interactive exhibitions and art movies.
Close by there is also NDSM which is a place to see exhibitions, markets, events.

I believe a trip to the suburb North is very worthwhile. I would certainly like to explore more.
I hope you enjoyed this trip to North with me - recommended for visitors and I'll definitely go back.
