Walking around Vila do Conde City / Riding Portugal

Another trip around Vila do Conde where I bring you some images of places that I hadn't shared with you yet.
Vila do Conde, with its characteristic tranquility and historic town charm, is the perfect place for a relaxing walk.
We decided to start the tour in the heart of the historic center. The carefully maintained cobblestone streets were quiet.

Vila do Conde, com a sua tranquilidade característica e o charme de cidade histórica, é o local perfeito para uma caminhada relaxante.
Decidimos começar o passeio no coração do centro histórico. As ruas de calçada empedrada, cuidadosamente conservadas, estavam tranquilas.

We passed through Largo da Alfândega, a square surrounded by buildings with old facades and an aroma of history that seemed to emanate from every stone. From here you can see the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, built on a rocky massif that stands out on the banks of the River Ave, and you can immediately identify its unique architecture, with a square plan and covered by an elegant vault.
Although small in size, this chapel is notable for its shape and roof, with a circular and elliptical format, composed of two distinct sections, immediately reminiscent of the architecture of oriental temples, in homage to past travels and experiences.

Passámos pelo Largo da Alfândega, uma praça rodeada por edifícios com fachadas antigas e com um aroma a história que parecia emanar de cada pedra. Daqui é possível visualizar a Capela de Nossa Senhora do Socorro, erguida sobre um maciço rochoso que se destaca à margem do rio Ave, e desde logo é possível identificar uma arquitetura única, com uma planta quadrada e coberta por uma elegante abóbada.
Embora de dimensões reduzidas, esta capela é notável pela sua forma e pela cobertura, com um formato circular e elíptico, composta por dois corpos distintos, fazendo desde logo lembrar a arquitetura de templos orientais, em homenagem às viagens e experiências passadas.

The chapel was built between 1599 and 1603, thanks to the initiative of Gaspar Manuel, a professed knight of the Order of Christ and chief pilot of the trade routes to India, China and Japan, and his wife, both buried inside the chapel, making the most significant place in the city's history.
The top of the rocky massif where it was built also serves as a viewpoint over the riverbank, offering a stunning view, which I will have the opportunity to share in another article that I have prepared to share later.

A capela foi construída entre 1599 e 1603, graças à iniciativa de Gaspar Manuel, cavaleiro professo da Ordem de Cristo e piloto-mor das rotas comerciais para a Índia, China e Japão, e de sua esposa, ambos sepultados no interior da capela, tornando o local ainda mais significativo para a história da cidade.
O alto do maciço rochoso onde foi construída serve também miradouro sobre a margem do rio, oferecendo uma vista deslumbrante, que terei a oportunidade de partilhar num outro artigo que preparei para partilhar posteriormente.

As we moved on, we decided to explore some of the narrower streets that ran along the center. We walked through small streets with houses with unique details, such as carved wooden doors and flower-filled balconies, which contrasted with the more austere atmosphere of the old city. Each street seemed to have its own personality.

Ao seguir em frente, decidimos explorar algumas das ruas mais estreitas, que se estendiam ao longo do centro. Atravessámos pequenas ruelas com casas com detalhes únicos, como portas de madeira trabalhada e varandas floridas, que contrastavam com o ambiente mais austero da cidade velha. Cada rua parecia ter a sua própria personalidade.

We arrived at the Municipal Theatre of Vila do Conde, an elegant building full of character, which stands out for its neoclassical façade. Although the door was closed at that moment, its presence highlighted how essential this space is to the city's cultural life. We couldn't resist stopping for a few moments and admiring the beauty of its architecture.
As we walked, the city seemed to reveal itself little by little.
The smell of the sea mixed with the aroma of the doughnuts and cotton candy from the stalls that could be found on every corner.

Chegámos ao Teatro Municipal de Vila do Conde, um edifício elegante e cheio de carácter, que se destaca pela sua fachada neoclássica. Embora a porta estivesse fechada naquele momento, a sua presença trazia à tona o quão essencial é este espaço para a vida cultural da cidade. Não resistimos a parar por alguns instantes e admirar a beleza da sua arquitectura.
Enquanto caminhávamos, a cidade parecia mostrar-se aos poucos.
O cheiro a maresia misturava-se com o aroma das farturas e algodão doce das barraquinhas que se podiam encontrar em cada esquina.

This walk through some of the city center streets showed that no matter how many times we visit a place, we can always discover new things. We passed through streets never before visited and discovered new places that will bring us here once again. We end up visiting several cities more than once and we always end up visiting those places that are familiar to us. This time we went down other alleys that led us to new discoveries. I hope to share the rest soon.

Este passeio por algumas das ruas do centro da cidade mostrou que por muitas vezes que visitemos um local podemos sempre descobrir coisas novas. Passamos por ruas nunca antes passadas e já descobrimos novos locais que nos vão cá trazer mais uma vez. Acabamos por visitar várias cidades mais do que uma vez e acabamos sempre por percorrer aqueles locais que nos são familiares. Desta vez enveredamos por outras ruelas que nos levaram a novas descobertas. Espero poder partilhar o resto dentro em breve.
