Vale de Açor de Cima - Atafona / Riding Portugal

in Worldmappin8 days ago
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

sfg.jpg

We're on the journey again and this time through the interior of the Alentejo!
We decided to explore a little more of the quiet, charming landscapes of this region and then we go back to the road.
From the car a building has caught our attention and we reversed the march to see what it was about.
We were in Açor de Cima Valley.
The afternoon was of full summer, with the intense altentjan sun reflecting on the horizon, illuminating the golden plains surrounding us.

The path to Açor de Cima Valley is a true immersion in the essence of the Alentejo. As the road looks infinite , we are surrounded by gold fields, in which its olive trees, chaparros and straw undulating with the hot wind. The smell of dry land and wild herbs hangs in the air, and as I've told you there is no more "beautiful" smell than this one.

Along the way, we went through donkeys, goats and horses, who grazed on the fields. The donkeys, with his lazy floor, seem to be part of this landscape for generations, despite the fact that they told us that they are less and less. The goats, agile, and curious, walk between the trees and shrubs, while the horses, gallop in freedom. I'd stay hours watching this scenario without any problems.

We then stop at Açor de Cima Valley, a small, quiet, welcoming village. Few white houses, with traditional blue or yellow bars, formed a cluster that seemed to have stopped in time.

The silence predominated, interrupted only by the distant corner of birds or dogs guarding the properties. The simplicity of the place reflects the way of life of their few inhabitants, which, were in their daily routines. It seems the time runs differently around here, without the urgency and frenzy of the big cities.

In the heart of the village, a very well preserved but closed church and where you saw no one.
A Catholic temple that must serve this population and the parish priest must come here once a week. We learn that the date of the following and announced mass by a paper placed on the door.
We follow our journey happy to have had the opportunity to know one more place, this time by a town that is very dear to us: our Alentejo!

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
