Going on adventure with nature is one of the favorite things we do, especially the thought that you are not only burning a lot of calories, but you are also enjoying the journey going to your destination. So join me as I share with you our trip to one of the famous tourist destinations in Cebu, Philippines, Kawasan Falls.
We took a trip going to the town of Badian almost at noontime. When we arrived at the corner where we started our trek, we noticed a change already. It's not our first time to visit the place, so we can't avoid comparing our experience every time we visit the place, not to mention that we visit this place not just once. But before we minded all those changes, we saw a stall where they sell a Buttered Corn, enough to feed our tummy from a long trip and also to sustain the long trek that we were about to start. So it was a good start for us, and the way the corn was cooked was really tasty. Plus, they were big. So we stayed for a couple of minutes, got ready with our legs, and went on. Kawasan falls is located a few kilometers from the highway. So people start walking from the corner itself. If you happen to bring cars with you or motorbikes, they have parking space for rent. Also, it is up to you if you hire a guide or not. Anyway, going to the area is not hard, you can find the way easily. If you want to try canyoneering, they also offer that here. You just need to ask for information about how to avail it.
While enjoying eating with our corns, we were also busy capturing different sceneries. We noticed that it has already a concrete road a few meters from the highway, and that was good, until we reached the area where we need to pay our entrance fees. So after we pay, we continued to walk. Good thing that there were a lot of trees and we couldn't feel directly the heat of the sun. And there were a lot of stalls where they sell food and beverage. So, no worries at all if we felt hungry. Also, some stalls sell some souvenirs, clothes or Sarong, and a lot more. Life jackets for rent were also offered. We also saw some vendors who had a demonstration of their products to the tourists who passed by. As we went on, we were amazed by the different plants that we passed on, especially those aquatic plants that we saw in the water. We can't avoid stopping by and had a closer look at those plants. There were plenty of them. But, there were only appreciated with our eyes because we never tried to get any of those plants.
Then we reached the first level of the falls. Wow, the water was already tempting us. The sounds of the waterfalls were very prominent since the drop of the water was high. And as expected, there were a lot of tourists in the area since it was the most accessible one. All the cottages for rent were full. And people were enjoying the foods that they have. By the way, foods and drinks for sale were available here. So nothing to worries if you haven't brought anything. There were also comfort rooms and shower rooms, but you need to pay for them. We were not sure about night accommodation since we haven't tried it. So, we just stayed a little bit and we continued to walk.
While going to the second level of the falls, we did not miss any random shots along the way. There were many beautiful small falls, as we called, that we passed by but we only took photos with it. It was just amazing, right in the middle of this jungle. The smell of the water, those plants in the surroundings, and the sounds were amazing. So we need to capture every single of them until we reached the next level. In this area, it was not that crowded. And the same thing with the first level, there were cottages for rent, comfort and shower rooms with pay, and stores for food and drinks. I guess the locals were used to the tourists already and they were so prepared.
The same thing, we did not stay because we targeted the source. So we continued to walk. This time, I felt a little bit tired already, especially that our route was uphill. It was a good thing that we brought water with us to keep us hydrated. And the beauty of nature gave us so much energy. As we went on since we almost reached the source, we could hear the sounds of the water, there were already water flows at the side of the road that we were taking. And at this time, the route was more exciting. Like we need to pass in a bamboo bridge just to get on the other side and step on the big rocks to get through it. I can still remember how my knees trembled as I crossed that bridge. Also, we need to step on a riverbed and feel the very cold water just to cross on that area. But, it was fun and we just kept on laughing.
Then, we finally reached the main source of the falls or the highest part of Kawasan. Honestly, we were kind of disappointed. Why? We did not expect to see a lot of people here. Before, many years ago, this is our favorite spot because only a few people came here unlike in the first and second level. But this time, it was the opposite. Well, maybe because of the Canyoneering that a lot of tourists are fun to do it, not to mention that an increasing number of people are visiting the place every year because of social media promotions. But, we did not mind already and we directly jumped into the very cold water after we placed our stuff securely in the cottage. It was great after a very long trek. We enjoyed our time playing with the current of the water as we positioned ourselves along with it. It was like having a free back and butt massage. Not to mention swimming underneath the water, and enjoyed every second with it. We also had a chance to see some small tropical fish, but I was not able to identify them.
After we satisfied ourselves in that very cold water, we decided to call it a day. So we changed into our dry clothes and start trekking back again to the highway because we did not want to go home late. It was still quite a long trip back to the city. But before we leave the place, we capture this very beautiful scenery of the dam. A few tourists prefer to stay here because most of the time, no people will come to this area. So you can have the place by yourselves.
It was a very well-spent afternoon. We did not mind the exact time of our trip or even the trekking time going to the falls because we were enjoying the scenery along the way. Not to mention that we were busy capturing different things. It was tiring but fun. I guess that sums up our experience. We were maybe getting disappointed a bit with the changes. But still amazed by the beauty of Kawasan falls, its cold turquoise water, it is perfect. Maybe the next time we will visit here, we try to do it on weekdays, and of course, during summer.
