Today I am going to share with you my day out in the snow.
It had been twenty years, without exaggeration, since I went to the snow and on the city where I live it doesn't snow and when it does it's every few years and the snow lasts very little.
Since I met my boyfriend I have always been telling him that I want to go to the snow, so after a year and a half of giving him a hard time about it, he took me.
At the end of January it had snowed a lot in the Pyrenees area, and we had snow areas two hours or so from our town.
I used to go to the snow as a child with my parents, but I don't remember very well in which area it was, only that it was on the border with France and that we went sledding down a not very high mountain. So I don't know much and I let my boyfriend choose where to go this time.
The place where we stopped was in Canfranc, a village in the Pyrenees area known for its ski slopes and also for the train station which is something very characteristic. We also went there because they had made a new station, where they have put a hotel and a luxury restaurant and we had to see it.

Hoy voy a compartir con vosotros mi día de excursión en la nieve.
Hacía veinte años, sin exagerar, que no iba a la nieve y encima en la ciudad donde vivo no nieva y cuando lo hace es cada muchos años y la nieve dura muy poco.Desde que conozco a mi novio siempre le estoy diciendo que quiero ir a la nieve, así que después de un año y medio dándole la paliza con eso me llevó.
A finales de enero había nevado mucho por la zona de los pirineos, y nos quedaban las zonas de nieve a dos horas o así desde nuestra ciudad.
Yo iba a la nieve de niña con mis padres, pero no recuerdo muy bien en que zona era, solo que estaba en la frontera con Francia y que nos tirábamos con trineo por una montaña no muy alta. Así que no conozco mucho y dejé que fuera mi novio quien eligiera donde ir esta vez.
El sitio donde paramos fue en Canfranc, un pueblo de la zona del pirineo conocido por sus pistas de esquí y también por la estación de tren que es algo muy característico. También fuimos allí porque habían hecho una estación nueva, donde han puesto un hotel y un restaurante de lujo y había que verlo.
There were a lot of people so we parked almost at the end of the village, but as it is not very big it was not very far from the area of interest. Besides, as soon as we went down the views left nothing to be desired, it was worth the cold and taking off my gloves to take pictures.
On the way to the station we went through some side streets at first and we noticed that all the houses had ice stalactites. The truth is that not to be a prophet of doom, but I consider that although they are beautiful they could be a danger because they look very sharp.
Había mucha gente por lo que aparcamos casi al final del pueblo, pero como tampoco es muy grande no nos quedaba muy lejos de la zona de interés. Además, nada más bajar la verdad que las vistas no dejaban nada que desear, merecía la pena el frio y quitarme los guantes para hacer fotos.
De camino a la estación fuimos por unas calles secundarias en un principio y nos fijamos que todas las casas tenían estalactitas de hielo. La verdad es que no es por ser agorera, pero yo considero que aunque son bonitas podrían ser un peligro ya que se ven muy afilados.
After walking for about five minutes along the main street of the village we arrived at the famous train station of Canfranc where there were many people taking pictures. The truth is that it was very difficult to photograph the whole station, but I got a good angle with the Pyrenees behind.
Tras caminar unos cinco minutos ahora si por la calle principal del pueblo llegamos a la famosa estación de tren de Canfranc donde había mucha gente haciendo fotos. La verdad es que era muy difícil fotografiar la estación completa, pero conseguí un buen ángulo con los Pirineos detrás.
We spent some time walking around the outside of the station and then we went to have some wine in a bar in the village to warm up before heading to the next destination.
We decided to go to eat in Jaca, as it was on the way home and there was also snow which was what mattered, but first my boyfriend told me to go to a place called the Cueva de las Güixas. It is a subway cave that is many years old which is full of stalactites, but when we arrived it was closed.
Estuvimos un rato recorriendo la zona de la estación por fuera y luego fuimos a tomar un vino a un bar del pueblo y entrar en calor antes de poner rumbo al siguiente destino.
Decidimos ir a comer a Jaca, ya que estaba de camino a casa y también había nieve que era lo que importaba, pero antes mi novio me dijo de ir a un sitio que se llama la Cueva de las Güixas. Se trata de una cueva subterránea que tiene muchos años de antigüedad la cual está llena de estalactitas, pero al llegar estaba cerrado.
We took the opportunity to walk around the area since it was a little further away from the village area. We found a park and stopped for a while to rest while my boyfriend smoked a cigarette.
Aprovechamos y dimos una vuelta por la zona ya que estaba algo más apartado de la zona del pueblo. Encontramos un parque y paramos un rato a descansar mientras mi novio se fumaba un cigarro.
We went to a restaurant to eat the menu of the day, which for a tourist and ski area was not very expensive.
The restaurant was very nice, as it had a very rustic part, with lots of wood, a closed fireplace and at the same time elegant.
Fuimos a un restaurante a comer el menú del día, el cual para ser una zona turística y de ski no estaba muy caro.
El restaurante era muy bonito, ya que tenía una parte muy rustica, con mucha madera, una chimenea cerrada y a la vez elegante.
First we ordered some white beans, which we both love and for the cold weather are very good, and some "migas", which is a very typical dish in some areas of Spain.
The migas is a recipe made of bread crumbs, fried with garlic and the sausages of the area, can be sausage, chorizo, bacon and is almost always accompanied by a fried egg to carve it and mix it with everything.
As we both liked the first two dishes we shared them, but with the second ones we did not share the same tastes.
As you can see in the photo we got the beans served with some green chili peppers as it is very typical to eat legumes with chili peppers.
De primero nos pedimos unas judías blancas las cuales nos encantan a los dos y para el frio vienen muy bien, y unas "migas", que es un plato muy típico de algunas zonas de España.
Las migas es una receta hecha de migas de pan, fritas con ajo y los embutidos de la zona, puede ser longaniza, chorizo, panceta y casi siempre se acompaña de un huevo frito para trincharlo y mezclarlo con todo.
Como a los dos nos gustaban los dos primeros platos los compartimos, pero con los segundos no compartimos los mismos gustos.
Como se ve en la foto nos sirvieron las judias con unas guindillas verdes ya que es muy típico comer las legumbres con guindillas.
I ordered a fish a la menier, which is a sauce of butter, lemon and capers, and my boyfriend never usually orders fish, so he ordered meatballs with curry sauce.
My fish dish was not bad, as it came with salad, but it had potatoes as well, something I liked since fish is usually served only with salad and I am more of a potato person.
Yo me pedí un pescado a la menier, que es una salsa de mantequilla, limón y alcaparras y mi novio nunca suele pedirse pescado, así que se pidió unas albóndigas con salsa de curry.
Mi plato de pescado no estaba mal, ya que venía con ensalada, pero tenía patatas también, algo que me gustó ya que casi siempre el pescado lo suelen servir solo con ensalada y yo soy más de patatas.
I didn't like the meatballs that my boyfriend ordered very much, and the strange thing is that I liked the sauce a lot since I don't like curry very much, but the meatballs were too hard and undercooked for my taste.
Las albóndigas que pidió mi novio no me gustaron mucho, y lo raro es que la salsa me gustó mucho siendo que a mi no me gusta mucho el curry, pero las albóndigas estaban para mi gusto muy duras y poco hechas.
Finally, it was time for dessert and we ordered what we always order, he a rice pudding and I a cheesecake.
Por último, tocaba el postre y pedimos lo que solemos pedir siempre, él un arroz con leche y yo una tarta de queso.
I don't like rice pudding at all so I didn't try it, but my cake was quite good, it was a fresh cheesecake that instead of having a cookie base had the cookie sprinkled on top.
A mi no me gusta nada el arroz con leche así que no lo probé, pero mi tarta estaba bastante buena, era una tarta de queso fresca que en vez de tener la base de galleta tenía la galleta espolvoreada por arriba.
After lunch we took the opportunity to go to see the old citadel of Jaca, but as it was Sunday we could not see the inside as it was closed. The citadel is a fortress that is many centuries old and inside apparently there is a museum of military miniatures.
Después de comer aprovechamos para ir a ver la antigua ciudadela de Jaca, pero como era domingo no se podía ver el interior ya que estaba cerrado. La ciudadela es una fortaleza que tiene muchos siglos de antigüedad y dentro por lo visto hay un museo de miniaturas militares.
Even so, we were able to see it from the outside, part of the walls and then we went for a walk around it.
Aun así, pudimos verla desde fuera, parte de las murallas y luego fuimos rodeándola dando un paseo.
We saw that there was a path that would lead us to the door that could be seen in the background, which when we arrived we saw that it would be the entrance to the fortress.
Vimos que había un camino que nos llevaría hasta la puerta que se veía al fondo, que al llegar vimos que sería la entrada a la fortaleza.
The truth is that it was a very complete day taking into account that it was getting dark early, we had to return early and that it is a two hour drive there and back.
Most important of all, despite the cold it was a very sunny day, we had a great time and I could see the snow. Of course, I still wanted to go sledding on a mountain, so I'll have to wait for next year.

La verdad es que fue un día muy completo teniendo en cuenta que anochecía pronto,nos teníamos que volver pronto y que son dos horas de coche de ida y dos de vuelta.
Lo más importante de todo, que a pesar del frío hizo un día muy soleado, lo pasamos muy bien y pude ver la nieve. Eso sí, me quedé con ganas de tirarme con un trineo por alguna montaña así que queda pendiente para el año que viene.

I also like snow very much and I haven't touched it for years. I have never seen such a panorama that covers everything with snow. I really understand that desire to want to see snow and I'm glad you got that adventure.

You waited for so long to see snow again but it was worth it 🙂 I'm lucky to go to places with snow every year as it's just a short drive to the Alps and I'm sure that I would miss it even if we didn't go for one year, so twenty years sounds like a lot 🙂

Si, yo hacia 20 años que no iba a la nieve. Solo vi la Filomena pero no es lo mismo.
