Feliz Navidad desde Bucaramanga | [ESP][ENG]

El reto de invierno está muy cerca de finalizar y yo no logro conseguir un hueco lo suficientemente amplio para sentarme a contarles de todas las hermosas decoraciones que me estoy encontrando en mi recorrido por algunas ciudades colombianas. A pesar de ello, estoy disfrutando muchísimo del viaje y, aunque me gustaría acumular más y más tickets para el reto (solo por diversión, pues los integrantes de #Worldmappin no participamos en el sorteo de los premios) he intentado convencerme de que no pasa nada si al final no alcanzo a los increíbles usuarios que están luchando por mantenerse des Teo de ese top 10.

Por ello, voy a intentar resumir en una publicación por cada ciudad que visite, algunos de los elementos festivos más interesantes que me haya conseguido. Empezamos con mi visita a la capital del Departamento de Santander en Colombia y el gran ánimo festivo que logre capturar durante mi breve estancia en este interesante lugar.

Bucaramanga es la sexta ciudad más poblada de Colombia, algo que sinceramente no me esperaba, sus grandes dimensiones y constante ajetreo durante todo el día, fue algo que me sorprendió mucho. Además es conocida por ser la Puerta de los Andes, por lo que había considerado conseguirme con una pequeña ciudad de clima fresco, tranquila y dedicada en su mayoría a actividades en el entorno natural.

No diré que me encontré con todo lo contrario, pues la ciudad está rodeada de enormes montañas y cuenta con muchos parques y zonas verdes que la hacen realmente atractiva, pero si me sorprendió la gran cantidad de altas edificaciones y centros comerciales con los que cuenta. Además, diciembre parece ser una época particularmente calurosa, algo de lo que no puedo quejarme, pues vine huyendo del frío europeo, pero para lo que no estaba del todo preparada, pues en mis previsiones pensaba pasar unos días un poco más abrigada de lo que al final tuvo que ser. Pero improvisar en los viajes es algo normal, así que tampoco sufrí mucho por ello.

Hubo mucho calor y un sol radiante, como se ve en la segunda foto del árbol en la calle decorado para navidad, pero también hubo largos momentos de lluvia intensa que me atraparon desprevenida, algo que, sin embargo, me dejó una experiencia divertida que permitió momentos interesantes de juego al momento de hacer fotos.

Winter challenge is very close to the end and I can't find enough time to sit down and tell you all about the beautiful decorations I'm stumbling upon on my tour through some Colombian cities. Despite this, I'm really enjoying the trip and, although I would like to collect more and more tickets for the challenge (just for fun, because the members of #Worldmappin do not participate in the prize draw) I've tried to convince myself that it's okay if in the end I don't reach the amazing users who are fighting to stay out of the top 10.

So, I'm gonna try to summarize in one post for each city I visit, some of the most interesting festive elements I've gotten my hands on. Let's start with my visit to the capital of the Department of Santander in Colombia and the great festive mood I managed to capture during my brief stay in this interesting place.

Bucaramanga is the sixth most populated city in Colombia, something that I honestly did not expect, its large dimensions and constant hustle and bustle throughout the day, was something that surprised me a lot. It is also known for being the Gateway to the Andes, so I had considered getting a small city with a cool climate, quiet and dedicated mostly to activities in the natural environment.

I won't say that I found it the opposite, because the city is surrounded by huge mountains and has many parks and green areas that make it really attractive, but I was surprised by the large number of high buildings and shopping malls it has. In addition, December seems to be a particularly hot season, something I can not complain about, because I came running away from the European cold, but for which I was not fully prepared, because in my forecasts I thought I would spend a few days a little cozier than in the end it had to be. But improvising in travel is normal, so I didn't suffer much for it either.

There was a lot of heat and bright sunshine, as seen in the second photo of the tree in the street decorated for Christmas, but there were also long hours of heavy rain that caught me off guard, something that, however, left me with a fun experience that allowed for interesting moments of playfulness when taking pictures.

Floridablanca

Comenzamos el recorrido visitando el municipio de Floridablanca, que a pesar de ser independiente, forma parte del área metropolitana de mi destino. Los locales se refieren a él como un “pueblo” de Bucaramanga, no sólo porque se han fusionado, sino porque la zona urbana mantiene la forma de las estructuras antiguas, casas independientes y calles angostas, sin altas edificaciones ni estructuras demasiado complejas.

El epicentro es el Parque de Floridablanca, en donde se encuentra la Parroquia San Juan Nepomuceno, una plaza con mucha actividad comercial informal que además está rodeada de muchísimos locales comerciales ofreciendo las famosas obleas de la ciudad y demás atractivos gastronómicos. Bucaramanga es una ciudad en donde la comida callejera tiene un papel protagónico.

Otra cosa que no falta en este parque son las innumerables palomas que están volando constantemente por doquier, mientras niños y adultos les ofrecen maíz constantemente para intentar capturar fotografías rodeados de ellas. No me pareció un buen plan.

El parque está decorado de navidad por todos lados, incluso dentro de la Iglesia y del centro comercial de la zona. Cortinas de luces envuelven los árboles y, aunque no pude visitarlo de noche, llenan de más vida y espíritu navideño ese “pueblito” ubicado más alto que el centro de la ciudad de Bucaramanga.

We began the tour visiting the municipality of Floridablanca, which despite being independent, is part of the metropolitan area of my destination. The locals refer to it as a "town" of Bucaramanga, not only because they have merged, but because the urban area maintains the shape of the old structures, independent houses and narrow streets, without tall buildings or overly complex structures.

The epicenter is the Parque de Floridablanca, where the Parroquia San Juan Nepomuceno is located, a square with a lot of informal commercial activity that is also surrounded by many commercial establishments offering the famous wafers of the city and other gastronomic attractions. Bucaramanga is a city where street food plays a leading role.

Another thing that is not missing in this park are the countless pigeons that are constantly flying everywhere, while children and adults are continuously offering them corn to try to capture pictures surrounded by them. I didn't think it was a good idea.

The park is decorated with Christmas decor everywhere, even inside the church and the local shopping mall. Curtains of lights wrap around the trees and, although I could not visit it at night, they fill with more life and Christmas spirit this "little town" located higher than the center of the city of Bucaramanga.

Pesebre dulce

En la misma Floridablanca tuve la oportunidad de visitar una exposición de un belén dulce, una recreación de la escena bíblica junto a muchos elementos que definen a la ciudad colombiana y a las diferentes regiones del departamento de Santander, resaltando sus diferentes atractivos turísticos.

Este pesebre ha sido elaborado en su totalidad con ingredientes dulces y de pastelería, algo que al parecer mucha gente ha comprobado durante su visitas, pues había muchos rastros de dedos en las “arenas” de todo el diseño. Había algunos muñecos elaborados sólo con chocolate y muchos otros deliciosamente perfilados.

Me gustó que el elemento principal parecía ser todo eso que uno desearía recorrer en la región y no solo un tema religioso, el balance cultural adecuado. Definitivamente, contenido directamente relacionado con viajes ;)

In the same Floridablanca I had the chance to visit an exhibition of a sweet nativity scene, a recreation of the biblical scene along with many elements that define the Colombian city and the different regions of the department of Santander, highlighting its different tourist attractions.

This nativity scene has been elaborated entirely with sweet and pastry ingredients, something that apparently many people have proved during their visits, as there were many traces of fingers in the "sands" of the whole design. There were some dolls made only with chocolate and many others deliciously outlined.

I liked that the main element seemed to be all that one would want to tour in the region and not just a religious theme, the right cultural balance. Definitely content directly related to travel ;)

Cerro de El Santísimo

Ahora nos vamos a la montaña, bueno a una de las muchas con las que cuenta la ciudad, especialmente famosa por contar con una enorme escultura de Jesucristo en lo más alto del cerro, que además de ser increíble de observar, resulta ser un mirador espectacular para disfrutar del atardecer por todo lo alto y sagrado.

Al ser un punto turístico muy importante, se han tomado verdaderamente en serio las actividades navideñas, no solo decorando el complejo desde su entrada, sino que también ofreciendo un show de luces con la fuente dinámica que es acompañada de villancicos y canciones típicas.

Para subir hasta El Santísimo hay un sistema teleférico desde el que se disfruta de un hermoso recorrido, de al menos 5 minutos, en el que te ves rodeado de la densa naturaleza en la montaña, totalmente verde alrededor y un silencio que aprecié profundamente.

Now we go to the mountain, well, to one of the many that the city has, especially famous for having a huge sculpture of Jesus Christ at the top of the hill, which besides being incredible to watch, it is a spectacular viewpoint to enjoy the sunset from the top and sacred.

Being a very important tourist spot, they have taken Christmas activities really seriously, not only decorating the complex from the entrance, but also offering a light show with a dynamic fountain that is accompanied by carols and typical songs.

To go up to El Santísimo there is a cable car system from which you can enjoy a beautiful ride, of at least 5 minutes, in which you are surrounded by the dense nature in the mountain, totally green all around and a silence that I deeply appreciated.

Al llegar a la cima, pude avistar un poco del atardecer, no tanto como me hubiese gustado pues todo se nubló repentinamente y comenzó a llover sin contemplación. Pero lo poco que se dejó ver el sol fue hermoso, arriba se puede apreciar toda la ciudad de forma magnífica y comprender un poco la fusión que se ha generado entre municipios debido al crecimiento de la población.

A pesar de la lluvia continué recorriendo el espacio y pude disfrutar del reflejo que se generaba por las decoraciones navideñas en el suelo. Hay muchas luces y photocalls dispuestos para complacer a los visitantes que buscan llevarse bonitos recuerdos fotográficos de su visita al Santísimo.

Luego de recorrer el emplazamiento bajo la lluvia y visitar algunas de las tiendas de recuerdos y comidas que prestan sus servicios en el parque, me dirigí hacia la enorme estructura religiosa para ascender en el elevador hasta el mirador que me permitiría disfrutar de los últimos rayos de sol de ese día.

When I reached the top, I could see a bit of the sunset, not as much as I wanted because everything suddenly became cloudy and it began to rain mercilessly. But the little that the sun could be seen was beautiful, at the top you can see the whole city in a magnificent way and understand a little of the merger that has been generated between municipalities due to population growth.

Despite the rain I continued walking through the space and I could enjoy the reflection that was generated by the Christmas decorations on the floor. There are many lights and photocalls arranged to please visitors looking to take beautiful photographic memories of their visit to the Santísimo.

After touring the site in the rain and visiting some of the souvenir and food stores that are located in the park, I headed towards the huge religious structure to take the elevator up to the lookout point that would allow me to enjoy the last rays of sunshine of the day.

El santísimo tiene más de 30 metros de alto y aunque el mirador se ubica detrás de la escultura, permite mirar a la ciudad en vista panorámica a 40 metros de altura como si estuvieses apreciándola a través de los ojos del hijo de dios. Jajaja eso suena un poco intenso, pero me dio esa impresión a pesar de no ser lo más mínimamente religiosa.

Los ascensores con vista panorámica te suben y bajan en cuestión de segundos, pero te sorprenden desde cualquier dirección con la repentina aparición de las espectaculares vistas hacia la ciudad.

Hay un tiempo estipulado para permanecer arriba, creo que alrededor de 15 minutos, sin embargo no estuve todo lo que podía allá arriba, pues pude ver que había comenzado el espectáculo de luces de las 6 de la tarde y quise bajar para escuchar la música y disfrutarlo más de cerca.

Al bajar, permanecí unos minutos bajo la lluvia disfrutando del show desde la mejor posición, directamente de frente en las gradas que están al frente de la fuente de agua y pude ver las proyecciones navideñas que reflejaban en el agua de la fuente. Pero me estaba empapando demasiado y terminé yendo hacia el lado izquierdo en donde están ubicadas las tiendas bajo techo, así que con café colombiano en mano disfrute del resto del show que duró media hora en total.

Luego de los villancicos y canciones navideñas tradicionales, variaron el repertorio, incluyendo un juego dinámico en la fuente al ritmo de Carmina Burana, ver las luces bailando con Oh fortuna fue fabuloso.

The santísimo is more than 30 meters high and although the viewpoint is located behind the sculpture, it allows you to look at the city in panoramic view at 40 meters high as if you were appreciating it through the eyes of the son of god. Hahaha that sounds a bit intense, but it gave me that impression even though I'm not the least bit religious.

The panoramic view elevators take you up and down in a matter of seconds, but surprise you from any direction with the sudden appearance of the spectacular views of the city.

There is a stipulated time to stay up there, I think about 15 minutes, however I didn't stay up there as long as I could, as I could see that the 6pm light show had started and I wanted to go down to listen to the music and enjoy it more closely.

When I came down, I stayed a few minutes in the rain enjoying the show from the best position, directly in front of the stands that are in front of the water fountain and I could see the Christmas projections that reflected in the water of the fountain. But I was getting too soaked and ended up going to the left side where the indoor tents are located, so with Colombian coffee in hand I enjoyed the rest of the show that lasted for a half hour overall.

After the traditional Christmas carols and songs, they varied the repertoire, including a dynamic game in the fountain to the rhythm of Carmina Burana, watching the lights dancing with Oh fortune was fabulous.

Al finalizar el show de la fuente de agua y luces, la lluvia persistía aunque un poco más ligera, esto ocasionó que los alrededores comenzaran a llenarse de una espesa niebla que le dio a todo un aspecto totalmente diferente y misterioso.

Al volver al teleférico para bajar, el recorrido resultó ser casi el doble de tiempo que subiendo, con alguna parada repentina, quizás sólo por distraer a los turistas, pues no había mucho viento ni movimientos bruscos, pero la visibilidad era casi nula. Resultó un descenso divertido, aunque no logré obtener casi imágenes interesantes.

Pero al llegar abajo pude apreciar las luces que había visto al llegar en su máximo esplendor, resaltando mucho en la oscuridad y regalándome bonitas imágenes para ilustrar mi viaje en este post.

Debido a la lluvia, el servicio de taxis para regresar desde el teleférico a la ciudad estaba tardando mucho, así que mientras esperaba, di un vuelta sacando fotos y me encontré con un belén de gran tamaño en la entrada del parque.

Había varias personas sacándole fotos a los pequeñines y no pude obtener demasiado detalle de cada elemento, pero creo que es una buena imagen navideña para cerrar la visita al Santísimo.

At the end of the show of the water fountain and lights, the rain persisted although a little lighter, this caused the surroundings to begin to fill with a thick fog that gave everything a totally different and mysterious aspect.

Returning to the cable car to descend, the ride turned out to be almost twice as long as going up, with some sudden stops, perhaps just to distract the tourists, as there was not much wind or sudden movements, but the visibility was almost nil. It turned out to be a fun descent, although I did not manage to get almost no interesting images.

But when I got down I could appreciate the lights that I had seen when I arrived in their maximum splendor, standing out in the darkness and giving me beautiful images to illustrate my trip in this post.

Due to the rain, the cab service to return from the cable car to the city was taking a long time, so while I was waiting, I walked around taking pictures and I found a large nativity scene at the entrance of the park.

There were several people taking pictures of the little ones and I couldn't get too much detail of each element, but I think it's a good Christmas image to close the visit to the Santísimo.

Parque San Pío

Como último escenario turístico-navideño durante mi primera visita a la ciudad de Bucaramanga, tengo que hacer una mención especial al Parque San Pio, a pesar de ser un hermoso recinto natural en medio de la ciudad, mi interés por el radica en la escultura Mujer de pie, desnuda de Botero.

Fue una alegría poder ir a verla, hace mucho tiempo encontraba grotesco el arte de Botero, pero aprendí a valorar muchas cosas en su expresión artística y rechazo a la violencia. A pesar de haber acudido también en búsqueda de adornos navideños para incluir en esta entrada para el reto de invierno, fue una pena no poder hacer algunas fotografías que le hicieran mayor justicia a esta escultura.

Por otro lado, conseguí muchos arreglos navideños bonitos y me encanto ver por todo el parque figuras de guacamayas, mariposas y hormigas. Animales muy representativos del país y la región.

Es imposible ir a Colombia y no pensar en las mariposas amarillas de Gabriel García Marquez y también muy impresionante saber que Bucaramanga también es muy conocida por un curioso snacks de hormigas culonas, pero de eso ya hablaremos en otro momento jajaja.

As last tourist-Christmas scenery during my first visit to the city of Bucaramanga, I have to make a special mention to Parque San Pio, in spite of being a beautiful natural enclosure in the middle of the city, my interest in it lies in the sculpture Woman standing naked by Botero.

It was a joy to be able to go and see it, a long time ago I found Botero's art grotesque, but I learned to value many things in his artistic expression and rejection of violence. Although I also went in search of Christmas ornaments to include in this entry for the winter challenge, it was a shame I couldn't take some pictures that would do this sculpture more justice.

On the other hand, I got a lot of nice Christmas arrangements and I was delighted to see all over the park figures of guacamayas, butterflies and ants. Very representative animals of the country and the region.

It is impossible to go to Colombia and not think of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's yellow butterflies and also very impressive to know that Bucaramanga is also well known for a curious snack of Culonas ants, but we'll talk about that some other time hahaha.

Bucaramanga está llena de luces navideñas. Las creencias y cultura del país para estas fechas, se refleja en cada esquina y cada miembro de su población, que comparten alegremente su entusiasmo en las calles con conocidos y desconocidos a la vez.

Mucha de las actividades de ocio se desarrollan en los centros comerciales con los que cuenta la ciudad y estos, por supuesto, aprovechan todos los elementos llamativos que pueden para deslumbrar y atraer a sus clientes.

Me voy a despedir con una bonita imagen de uno de estos malls que nos da la bienvenida al próximo año. Ya no queda nada para que llegue el 2025 y tampoco para que finalice nuestro #WinterChallenge, así que espero que, aunque queden pocos días, más personas se sumen y puedan participar por el sorteo y los premios que hay por repartir.

Bucaramanga is full of Christmas lights. The beliefs and culture of the country for these dates, is reflected in every corner and every member of its population, who happily share their enthusiasm in the streets with acquaintances and strangers at the same time.

Many of the leisure activities take place in the city's shopping malls and, of course, they take advantage of all the eye-catching elements they can to dazzle and attract their customers.

I am saying goodbye with a beautiful image of one of these malls that welcomes us to the coming year. There is nothing left for 2025 to arrive and neither for our #WinterChallenge to end, so I hope that, although there are only a few days left, more people will join and can participate in the draw and the prizes that are to be delivered.
