I don't know which sites you'll be visiting, but there's a book from the Approach Guides series by David Raezer and Jennifer Raeze called Maya Ruins of Mexico: Travel Guide to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Teotihuacan, Palenque, and more I think it might be a good intro before your trip.
