Over the the Christmas and New Year holiday period we try to get away. This year we were a little late as I needed to help with a job at a factory shut down but as soon as we finished the job we packed the car and were away. This time of year in Australia parkrun has some special events on. Each country gets to choose there own special event days. Australia just does the Christmas and New Year public holidays. Anyway, it is the perfect time for avid parkrun tourists like us to try and pick up some new events.
We try and stay away from the coast line as it is so busy with holiday makers and tourists. The country towns are very quiet, as you can see in my morning sunrise photo from our accommodation (at the top).
Wauchope main street.
The parkrun started at Rocks Ferry Reserve playground located right on the Hastings River.
There were some fun and interesting artworks along the path.
The toilet block was beautifully decorated with some aboriginal art.
This sign explained some of the local history, and I would have loved to stay and read it but we had a parkrun to do.
The view from road level looking down at the small but growing parkrun crowd.
I walked under the Stoney Creek Bridge to capture this artwork. I like it when they decorate bridges and walls with artwork. It makes each town a bit more lively.
Just before the start of parkrun.
75 runners and walkers showed up for this free, five kilometre, timed event on New Years Day morning.
The course was a very pleasant double out and back course along the Hasting River.
I really like it when sculptures are made out of wood and metal.
The old rail bridge.
I assume this is a nod to the cattle farming around this area.
The riverside had a couple of spots with picnic shelters.
The old wharf.
Someone's backyard with their own murals on their shed. The parkrun course ran right by here.
That's the old bridge again, from the other side. And a cool big tree with some lichen (?) growing on it.
More cool murals. This was consciouscat's favourite - the orange one with all the hands.
There were lots of heritage trail sculptures and art works along the river path.
Including one of the queen.
This looked like a shell but it was made out of little people, which was clever.
Stone sculptures.
The view from under the old rail bridge. Not sure if it is still in use.
@consciouscat was in front of me for this parkrun as I was walking a fair bit and talking lots of photos.
Finally, our Strava map of our NYD walk/run. Thanks for visiting Wauchope parkrun with me.
