About 1 hour 40 minutes drive West of Brisbane at Rangeville is Table Top Bushland Reserve. We had been planning to visit this area for a while to see if we could make it to the top of what we had heard was a short but quite technical hike and rock scramble.
The Area is quite famous in Australia history and used to be called "One tree hill" There were a number of conflicts on and around the mountain between the early European settlers and the Aboriginal Traditional Custodians of the area.
This was not a good start! There was another warning sign of a land slide too. So we parked up some where safe further away and thought we would just walk in and explore a bit, maybe just get a photo of the land slide.
The land slide. Not that bad really but probably very dangerous if 2 cars tried to pass each other on this narrow road. We felt more than comfortable to pass by on foot.
The road closure only added an extra one kilometer of walking through some nice Aussie Bushland.
Table Top Reserve car park.
It is possible to walk all the way to and from Picnic Point in East Toowoomba and make a big day of it.
This is the second of Toowoomba's Escarpment Parks we have visited Picnic Point and Table Top, There is still a few more to do.
Jubilee, Redwood, Murrumba, McKnight, Barry Griffiths, Duggan, Neilsen, Echo Valley South and Glen Lomond, this list should keep us busy for a while.
Half way up there was a good spot for a rest and a good view of the surrounding area.
Lots of Weeds and Volcanic Rock on this walk, we were not really sure if this rock had been placed on the track to stop erosion or naturally fell from above.
We were worried all the rock would be loose and annoying but it was all pretty stable and like any hike you always have to be mindful where your putting your feet.
The last bit was a bit of a technical rock scramble but there was plenty of foot holds every where.
The top and a view to the north.
A cactus bush and a view to the south.
There was a bit of a loop track at the top that was well worn but no marking.
A short, challenging and enjoyable adventure hike.
