Flying into New York after a long haul flight from Brisbane via LAX. This was somewhere over Baltimore (if I can remember correctly from what the pilot told us). The consistent number of lights I would see was amazing compared to how spread out city lights are in Australia. After landing in New York City we changed flights and then flew onto Washington DC.
First stop after a rest: The White House
When I heard a group of my running friends were going to run the New York Marathon I just had to tag along. Doing one of the biggest and most famous races in the world was already an awesome idea, but adding a short stopover in Washington DC made it sound even better to me.
Security?
Inside the National Museum of Natural History. I was expecting good, maybe even really good, but this place was next level with all its incredible stuff, room after room.
Lots of Amethyst!
The Hope Diamond; very famous, very rare, very valuable.
Grey Whale Skeleton in the Bone Hall
Triceratops
Washington DC's museums and monuments are almost endless with something amazing everywhere you go. It was all really well done; I could have easily get lost in all the history for hours and days trying to read, learn and check everything out.
Air and Space Museum
The Capitol Building
Usually I like organise and manage trips but on this one the others had told me, "Just let Adam do it. You won't be disappointed." And they were right, he did so well and covered so many things I probably would not have bothered with. Usually I do not do organised tours or guides but when you're limited for time and can share costs with others, then guides bring a wealth of interesting knowledge.
Capitol's Rotunda
All the statues and paintings inside the Capitol's Rotunda
The Crypt under the Rotunda, where George Washington was supposed to be buried, but it was decided he would be entombed at his Mount Vernon estate in Virginia.
A Copy of the Magna Carta. Gifted from the British Government in 1976.
Library of Congress.
The Reflecting Pool from the Lincoln Memorial.
Thomas Jefferson Memorial
Inside the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
The Washington Memorial across the Tidal Basin from Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. Known as the Stone of Hope and the two pieces behind him are known as the Mountain of Despair.
The White House, South Lawn with my running mates.
National Mall Squirrel
New Jersey Ave, NW view of The Capitol Building.
Lincoln Memorial sunrise looking at the Washington Monument.
Iconic morning run around the National Mall.

In memory of JFK and his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, with an eternal flame.
Arlington National Cemetery
Graves at the Cemetery
We rented out on big apartment and all stayed together for the trip.
It was only a short stay and I will be definitely be back as there is so much more to explore and see.
Next post: Philadelphia!
