Crystal Waves in North Cebu: Malapascua Island Escape

Malapascua Island in Daanbantayn Cebu Philippines offers a perfect blend of serenity and calmness. Let me share to you through this bog my experience in visiting this magnificent island 3 years ago.

3 years ago after the government is slowly lifting the strict lockdown, my family wanted a breath of fresh air and experience uncrowded vacation because we are still cautious about the pandemic. Luckily my cousin’s husband suggested the beauty of his hometown, the Malapascua Island. My family were hesitant at first to take risk in visiting the island because it is located in the northernmost tip in Cebu but my cousin’s husband reassures us that the long trip from Danao City to Malapascua Island is definitely worth it.

From Danao City we rent a van for the whole family going to Daanbantayan. I thought Malapascua is just a barangay part in Daanbantayan but little did I know that it is a separate island. After we arrive in Daanbantayan we rested for a bit and took our lunch before we headed continuously in Malapascua Island. From Daanbantayan, it took us almost 3 hours riding in a ferry before we could reach the island.

At first, I wasn’t really expecting so much because that time the name Malapascua Island is not very familiar to me but I was stunned by its beauty as soon as we arrived at the island. The sand are incredibly fine and white making it soft when you walk on it. The water was so clear. The shine literally gives spark when you look at it. My first impression when I arrived at the island is the place literally feels and looks like heaven. The island is not that very big but it is bursting with beauty.

My cousin’s husband said that Malapascua Island also offers snorkeling and free diving activity but we did not have to try it since my family just wanted to chill, relax and swim. The local also told us that there are beautiful corals and school of fish surrounding the island that makes there snorkeling and free diving activity worth it.

Aside from the beautiful beach, the sunset in Malapascua Island is iconic and stunning. As someone who loves sunrises and sunsets, it was the highlight of our short vacation. We sat on the beach having our early dinner while witnessing the beautiful sunset. It was amazing and unforgettable.

Overall, my Malapascua Island experience 3 years ago was a core memory. Hopefully very soon, I can visit the island again and try snorkeling with my whole family!
