Estoy encantada de estar una semana más por aquí para compartir nuevas aventuras que tengo guardadas en mi galería.

Hace un tiempo mi esposo y yo conocimos un buen hombre de Hungría que visitaba Venezuela, siempre que esas cosas pasan nos da emoción poder mostrar algo sobre Venezuela a esas personas que visitan nuestro país y entonces volvemos a recorrer lugares con la misma alegría de la primera vez. Son simples paseos o viajes de amistad y sana convivencia. En esa oportunidad estuvimos junto a él y otra compañera venezolana.

Esa persona se encontraba en Caracas y quería una aventura caminando por la ciudad, así que se nos ocurrió hacer una ruta por algunos museos de la ciudad. Vale aclarar que, fue hace mucho tiempo y estos lugares han cambiado, es decir se han embellecido aún más en algunos casos.

Para aquel momento visitamos los museos en este orden:

I am delighted to be here for another week to share new adventures that I have stored in my gallery.
Some time ago, my husband and I met a nice man from Hungary who was visiting Venezuela. Whenever these things happen, we are excited to show something about Venezuela to those who visit our country, and then we revisit places with the same joy as the first time. They are simple outings or trips based on friendship and healthy coexistence. On that occasion, we were with him and another Venezuelan friend.
This person was in Caracas and wanted an adventure walking around the city, so we decided to take a tour of some of the city's museums. It's worth noting that this was a long time ago and these places have changed, in some cases becoming even more beautiful.
At that time, we visited the museums in this order:

Durante este recorrido iniciamos en la mañana, aproximadamente a las 10:00am y terminamos alrededor de las 5:00pm (17:00h), por motivo de que hicimos algunas paradas para que este buen amigo probara frutas y comidas locales durante el recorrido.

Primera parada / First stop

1) Museo Arturo Michelena

📍La Pastora

Durante el año 2024 este museo tuvo una rehabilitación y en enero de 2025 abrió nuevamente las puertas al público, fue una noticia que me hizo felíz porque le hacía falta cariño a su fachada e instalaciones. Por eso, aclaro que las fotos que monstraré son de mucho tiempo atrás.

El museo es una casa colonial ubicada en la Pastora, lo cual me permitió viajar en el tiempo y es una sensación que me encanta. El museo lleva el nombre de un pintor venezolano muy importante en el siglo XIX, esto se debe a que esta casa era su vivienda y el taller donde se dedicaba a crear. Por eso muchas de sus obras están allí exhibidas, así como las de otros artístas reconocidos del país. Michelena es conocido por el realismo en su arte; tíene obras muy destacadas en la Galería de Arte Nacional de Caracas, siendo una de las más conocidas: "Miranda en La Carraca".

Algo que llamó mucha mi atención es que luego que el pintor murió muy jovén de tuberculosis, su esposa llamada Lastenia se dedicó a proteger todas las obras y según en 1923 abrió la casa para mostrar las piezas, pero no fue hasta 1963 que se crea oficialmente el museo.

Que bonito cuando canalizas el dolor de la perdida en algo más tangible y perdurable en el tiempo, gracias a la afán de esta mujer, actualmente podemos apreciar estas creaciones y especialmente vivir la oportunidad de adentrarse a otra época.

1)Arturo Michelena Museum in La Pastora
In 2024, this museum underwent renovations and reopened its doors to the public in January 2025. This news made me happy because its façade and facilities were in need of some TLC. That's why I want to clarify that the photos I'm going to show you are from a long time ago.
The museum is a colonial house located in La Pastora, which allowed me to travel back in time, a feeling I love. The museum is named after a very important Venezuelan painter of the 19th century, as this house was his home and the workshop where he created his art. That is why many of his works are exhibited there, as well as those of other renowned artists from the country. Michelena is known for the realism in his art; he has very notable works in the National Art Gallery of Caracas, one of the best known being “Miranda en La Carraca.”
Something that caught my attention is that after the painter died very young from tuberculosis, his wife, Lastenia, dedicated herself to protecting all his works. In 1923, she opened the house to display the pieces, but it was not until 1963 that the museum was officially created.
How beautiful it is when you channel the pain of loss into something more tangible and lasting over time. Thanks to this woman's efforts, we can now appreciate these creations and, especially, experience the opportunity to step into another era.

Al entrar hay muchas obras en las paredes, hay salas de estar y un comedor. Al fondo está su obra llamada El Granizo de Remims 1886 en óleo.

Upon entering, there are many works on the walls, living rooms, and a dining room. At the back is his work called The Hailstorm at Reims, 1886, in oil.

El mobiliario, decoraciones y escaleras son hermosas, me sentía en una película hecha realidad. La casa tiene planta baja y una plata arriba, allí pudimos apreciar otras habitaciones y áreas llamativas.

The furniture, decorations, and staircases are beautiful; I felt like I was in a movie come to life. The house has a ground floor and one floor above, where we were able to appreciate other rooms and striking areas.

Algunas fotos son oscuras porque para entonces no había buena iluminación y mi teléfono hizo su mejor esfuerzo por capturar aquella belleza de lugar, respetando no usar flash.

Some photos are dark because there wasn't good lighting at the time, and my phone did its best to capture the beauty of the place, respecting the fact that I didn't use flash.

2) Casa Museo José Gregorio Hernández

📍La Pastora

En la misma localidad de la Pastora se encuentra otra casa colonial, donde vivió durante el siglo XX el ahora santo venezolano (recién canonizado por la iglesia católica): José Gregorio Hernández.

Este lugar que también fue rehabilitado este año en el marco de las recientes celebraciones, si gustas saber más de la historia de este médico venezolano dejo acá un post anterior: JGH: Tradición venezolana.

El museo también conserva en parte una recreación de la época podrás apreciar espacios cotidianos donde hizo vida este personaje venezolano: "el médico de los pobres", conocido por sus milagros.

2)José Gregorio Hernández House Museum
In the same town of La Pastora, there is another colonial house where José Gregorio Hernández, now a Venezuelan saint (recently canonized by the Catholic Church), lived during the 20th century.
This place was also renovated this year as part of the recent celebrations. If you would like to know more about the history of this Venezuelan doctor, here is a previous post: JGH: Venezuelan tradition.
The museum also preserves a partial recreation of the era, where you can see the everyday spaces where this Venezuelan figure lived: “the doctor of the poor,” known for his miracles.

Luego de este recorrido caminamos un largo trayecto hasta la avenida Bolívar de Caracas, donde se encuentran ubicados los siguientes 3 museos. Al bajar caminando son aproximadamente 35 minutos, pero generalmente es más tiempo porque en el trayecto hay muchas cosas por hacer y observar.

Ahora pasaremos de dos casa museos de la época colonial a unos museos contemporáneos, te invito a estar al pendiente del próximo post.

After this tour, we walked a long way to Bolívar Avenue in Caracas, where the following three museums are located. Walking downhill takes approximately 35 minutes, but it usually takes longer because there are many things to do and see along the way.
Now we will move from two colonial-era house museums to some contemporary museums. Stay tuned for the next post.

3) Museo Nacional de Arquitectura

📍Avenida Bolívar de Caracas

Este museo fue creado en 2006 y fue inaugurado en el año 2012 fue pensado para estar a la altura de museos similares de Latinoamérica.

Para cuando fui no estaba muy concurrido y merece más cariño, creo que es una propuesta interesante poder mostrar propuestas sobre la arquitectura en Venezuela en la oportunidad de construir una visión común para reflexionar, presentar y difundir nuevos proyectos.

Por supuesto es un museo más especializado y los expertos juzgarán sobre el mismo. Yo solo soy una mortal espectadora.

3)National Museum of Architecture
This museum was created in 2006 and opened in 2012. It was designed to be on par with similar museums in Latin America.
When I visited, it wasn't very crowded, and I think it deserves more attention. I think it's an interesting idea to showcase proposals on architecture in Venezuela as an opportunity to build a common vision for reflection, presentation, and dissemination of new projects.
Of course, it is a more specialized museum, and experts will judge it. I am just a mere spectator.

During the tour, several projects are on display across various levels.

Dentro de algunos proyectos que reconocí rápido fue los pertenecientes a Fruto Vivas, tiene una propuesta que me gusta mucho, basada en el valor a la sencillez de la cotidianidad, le da importancia a la arquitectura sociopolítica y cultural por encima de lo estético.

Among some of the projects that I quickly recognized were those belonging to Fruto Vivas. I really like their approach, which is based on valuing the simplicity of everyday life and prioritizing sociopolitical and cultural architecture over aesthetics.

Ese día llovió un poco y tuvimos que esperar un rato hasta que escampara, así que dio la posibilidad de reposar y apreciar todo con calma.

It rained a little that day, and we had to wait a while for it to clear up, so we had a chance to rest and take everything in calmly.

4) Museo de la Estampa y del Diseño Carlos Cruz Diez

📍Avenida Bolívar de Caracas

Luego dejó de llover y salió el sol, así que nos fuimos al próximo museo ubicado en esa misma avenida. Es de mis museos preferidos y el de muchas personas, por ser un lugar interactivo, inmersivo y divertido.

4)Carlos Cruz Diez Museum of Printmaking and Design
Then the rain stopped and the sun came out, so we went to the next museum located on the same avenue. It is one of my favorite museums, and that of many people, because it is interactive, immersive, and fun.

El museo lleva el nombre del artista venezolano Carlos Cruz Diez, un gran exponente del arte cinético en Venezuela y muy reconocido en el mundo, murió en 2019 y dejó un legado impresionante. Sus piezas no solo se encuentran en este museo, sino en muchas partes del país y el mundo: aeropuerto, universidades, etc.

Particularmente, en este museo que se creó desde 1997 es una experiencia total, se puede permanecer mucho tiempo dentro solo apreciando lo que dispone. Es un encuentro con las luces, los colores, hay un incentivo a la imaginación y la creatividad.

Hay salas de exposición y cuartos de luces increíbles que recrean el arte cinético y por supuesto nos permitió divertinos mucho mucho mucho.

The museum is named after Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz Diez, a leading exponent of kinetic art in Venezuela and renowned worldwide. He died in 2019, leaving behind an impressive legacy. His works can be found not only in this museum, but also in many other places around the country and the world: airports, universities, etc.
In particular, this museum, which was created in 1997, is a total experience. You can spend a long time inside just appreciating what it has to offer. It is an encounter with lights and colors, stimulating the imagination and creativity.
There are exhibition halls and incredible light rooms that recreate kinetic art and, of course, allowed us to have a lot of fun.

5) Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Armando Reverón

📍Avenida Bolívar de Caracas

Finalizamos nuestro recorrido en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Armando Reverón, que anteriormente se llamó Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas Sofía Ímber. Su fundación data de 1973. No voy ahondar en todas las polémicas en torno al museo, que ha tenido históricamente... me centraré en cuanto disfruté la visita.

We ended our tour at the Armando Reverón Museum of Contemporary Art, formerly known as the Sofía Ímber Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas. It was founded in 1973. I won't delve into all the controversies surrounding the museum, which it has historically faced, but will focus on how much I enjoyed the visit.

El museo aún se mantiene abierto y en la oportunidad que fui.... pudimos contemplar obras de Pablo Picasso.

The museum is still open, and when I visited, we were able to see works by Pablo Picasso.

"Los toros son ángeles que llevan cuernos". / "Bulls are angels who wear horns".

"No quiero ser moderno, quiero ser eterno". / "I don't want to be modern, I want to be eternal."
