My love to Zugspitze

in Worldmappin4 years ago (edited)

I love mountains and the view of the Alps always takes my breath away. I totally enjoy being in a green Alpine valley, surrounded by majestic rocky peaks covered by snow. However, what is even more attractive and challenging for me is to be on the top of the mountain and look around from higher perspective. Thus, in summer, when I found a trip to Zugspitze organized by an experienced group, I hesitated only few minutes.

It was a hike with via ferrata which I didn´t have any experience with so being a part of organized group seemed to me as a good idea. As I have fear of heights, I considered that as a good way to surpass myself. I was physically ready for the trip, the only point was to get ready also mentally. I was watching videos of the trails to see how demanding that might be, reading various articles, reviews, comments and anytime I thought of that hike, I got butterflies in my stomach. I was looking forward to that moment when I step on the top but at the same time, I was a bit scared and had a huge respect to that mountain, naturally.

Unfortunately, I am not going to describe the hike here as unluckily, at the end, the trip was cancelled due to covid limitation and I didn´t find any other opportunity like this in summer. But I have never left the idea to get on the top.

In October, I went for my holiday to Austrian Tirol with a friend of mine. Our plan was to do some light hiking combined with lifts and as we were in the Zugspitze area, this mountain was the must-go for us. We didn´t mean to climb up, the only way to go was the lift but for me, it was an opportunity to check the mountain and the surroundings from the top and to make my dream come true at least a bit.

We were staying in Lermoos in Tirol, which means that we could see Zugspitze just from our guesthouse. However, we didn´t have any clear view of the peak as it was cloudy almost all the time.

I was still watching the Zugspitze webcam to see what the visibility is from the top but it was always only white and grey picture. We only had one day when it was supposed to be sunny and we decided to give it a try.

We went up by a cabin and I was excited like a small child at Christmas. I don´t know how long we were going, maybe 10 minutes but at the end we were on the top. The views were just breathtaking.

Amazing!

There are not even such words to describe that beauty.

We spent there about 2 hours just staring at all the peaks near and far away.

We also had some coffee as there is a small restaurant on the top. Actually, it was a coffee with the best view in my life.

Standing there speechless and looking at the beauty, it is really easy to realize how small and distant our issues seem to be, suddenly.

I have promised myself to come back again next year but next time in summer and from the other end then from the cabin door. And if that is a successful hike, I will definitely share my feelings here with you.

Thank you very much for reading my post.

Oh that looks so familiar to a trip we did in 1978, cloud lifted off the mountain at about 14h00, we went up to enjoy the most spectacular views. In the restaurant we had hot soup, it was cold up there in September.

You are totally right, the views are unforgettable.

The view once the clouds lift, is absolutely staggering, we were exceptionally fortunate the clouds gave us an opportunity to see the scenery around us.
