My Royal Route to the HiveBeeCon started yesterday at 5am when I had to catch the bus to the airport for my 8am flight to Krakow. I was hoping that the McDonalds next to the bus stop would be open (there are some that open 24 hours) so I can get some breakfast. Sadly not.
It only took me 30 minutes to get to the airport, 15 minutes to go through customs. Then I spent over 2 hours sitting in the airport doing nothing. I could have done with two more hours of sleep! After some delay, I finally got on the plane, I'm buzzing away to the HiveBeeCon already!!
I was so tired and slept for the entire flight, and soon we landed in Krakow. Hello HiveBeeCon.
The train ride from the airport to Krakow centre was smooth and quick. Apart from the fact I bought the wrong ticket for the bus instead of the train. Luckily the error only cost me USD1.5 and I bought buy the correct ticket once I got on the train.
I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the city. You can't really get lost in Krakow. The Old Town is ringed by a park just follow the walk.
With Krakow being the second largest city in Poland, and the previous capital city of Poland, it has a rich history and still retains the legacy of stunning architecture. I just followed the park walk and stopped whenever I saw any interesting things.
These horse drawn carriages seems quite popular around Krakow. I think it's a nice way to see everything leisurely and I could hear them trotting along the streets from quite far away. The only downside is the traffic jam it causes. Cars can't overtake them in the city and they also go along parts of the tram tracks. I can imagine how annoying the locals can be because of the inconvenience
This is an interesting monument in the park. The information was only in Polish and I could only read 1939. I assume it had something to do with Russia's invasion in Poland that year. Some things never change.
Towards the end of my walk on the city, I saw this very grand building. There are many like these in Krakow but this one stood out because of the rather grand entrance. When I peaked inside, I was very surprised to see who occupied it. Zoom on to see if you can figure it out.
I was half tempted to have dinner in the previous building as I missed it in the morning. Just joking! No way would I eat in McDonald's on holiday. We found a place that says it does home cooked Polish food instead. I don't know how authentic it is, but it was very nice, and a lot more local than McDonalds!!!
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
The airlines always tell you to be there hours ahead, but it's often much quicker if you avoid peak times. Just have to decide whether to gamble on that. You picked an appropriate airline anyway.
Enjoy Krakow. I have some memories of the place including the big square and the dumplings. I even went for a run along by the river.
Have fun.
Last year when I flew out to Amsterdam it took me about 45 minutes to get through customs, maybe coz it was day time. Flying is convenient but sometimes when you factor on the waiting around in airports it can easily double the flight times.
I'm sure they used to recommend 2 hours for international, but now they say 3. On an early flight that's a pain. When we flew to the US we stayed at a hotel near Heathrow. Was not too bad to get through to departures. Had time for a leisurely, if early breakfast.
You really don't want to take any risk with long haul flights, better be safe than sorry
a shame McDonalds wasn't open before you left
Krakow looks beautiful and I to when I travel avoid MCdonalds or any fast food chain try to see what local cuisine I can try
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
McDonald's is my very last option during travels when all the local places looks too dodgy or ultra expensive. Food is a big part of travel experience, must try in my opinion

Have a great trip. Really looking forward to reading your reports. There was hardly anything from Hivefest...not of any great interest, anyway :-)
Neopch has done a few good videos, have
you seen them? I have yet to check out his latest goodie bag one

What a beautiful town. Although only "7 Car hours" from here I never visited.
Have a good time there meeting all the hivians ❤️
Am looking forward to Saturday, will keep everyone posted. 7 hours drive is quite a long way by UK standards, but seems like Europeans are a bit more used to it.
Take care @beeber 💞
For US 7 hours would be nothing. Here its not something you simply do out of an Idea, but I would say its a range we think about using the car.
Have a blast @livinguktaiwan, Krakow looks beautiful! Who wants McDonalds when you can try local cuisine, the food looks very good as well.
Wish you could make it to Krakow as well Lizzie, so near yet so far! Actually a couple are coming over from Amsterdam, fancy a last minute adventure 😉?
I have to admit Krakow is a beautiful place. The pictures shown look so real that I feel the need to enter the country through them (lol, I wish there was a program like that).
And it is a good thing you got the correct ticket. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Thanks for dropping by!
You are welcome 😊
That food does look quite Polish! We have a couple of places around where I live that do traditional Polish food. For some reason I thought it was going to be bland, but it is so good. I can still remember how good the hunter's stew we got was. I hope you have an awesome time at the meet up!
Hubby ordered hunters stew for starters, it's that little pot at the top. It was very filling, even by his standards.
Looks like there will be a good turnout at the meetup, so hopefully it will be good
That's awesome. My wife and I shared a sampler at the place we went and the hunter's stew was one of the items. She didn't want anything to do with it at first, but then she tried it and she ate almost as much of it as I did.
The city looks amazing ❤️
The breakfast? let's be blunt here 🤢🤢
Macadees wins everytime, except in India, they only do chicken.
Burger king a very distant 2nd place.
I know what I like
and I like what I know
Enjoy your time in Poland. I look forward to seeing the updates.
I actually prefer BK over Mac's, their chips are a lot nicer. I think you'll see quite a lot of updates about HiveBeeCon, many active bloggers attending
excellent !
Good luck with HiveBeeCon. I love the crossing. I think it's great that you didn't lose much, I tend to get it wrong too. It happens, it happens. You should definitely eat something from the place you are visiting, and more so if you are on vacation.
I think food is one of the best way to learn about the country, it will be a shame not to experience it
Krakow is still on my places-to-see list. Have fun, hope Hivebeecon is a blast!
I'm sure it will be!
In less than six hours we also leave our home and comiiiiiiiiiiiing.
You have an early morning flight as well? Sleep tight tonight
Yeah, will have to wake up at 3:30 a.m. (if we go to sleep at all 😂)
You are just a few hours there, and you have already photographed the whole city! Leave something for others! 😂
Btw. We count on you that you will find a nice place for a dinner tomorrow!
See you!
Wow, what a beautiful place. It looks like you had fun on this trip 😊 Thanks for sharing 😊
How beautiful Krakow looks. And with Appaloosas horses. I like horses.
Looks like McDonald's has invaded there.
I wish you a good night's rest. HiveBeeCon is starting soon!

I thought you'd be eating McDonald's on vacation. I don't blame you, it's nice to try something local, but MC is a safe option. You can be sure you won't get a stomach ache. Krakow is a nice city, my girlfriend has been there but I haven't had the chance yet. I hope you have a lot of fun at HiveBeeCon.
You’re crazy for getting up at 5am! And thats by choice. I have children as an alarm clock. But I guess the early wake up is worth the beautiful sites you’ve visited already.
There is clearly a bee logo there hehehe
Nice photography shared by you and I can see about this city. It's too clean instead of india, No doubt here is natural place but your photography showing quality of this place and care of govt.
I like it and happy to see.
