London Christmas Lights

London's always going to be my favourite city in the world. End of. Living quite far away now means I don't get to visit that often, maybe once a year max. I always try to time that at year end to experience the Christmas vibe, and to share with everyone on Hive.

Ready? Let's go!!

Regent Street

It doesn't matter what time of the year it is, Regent Street always attract a lot of people. At one end it leads to Soho, the very buzzing center of London, and at the other end Oxford Street, the famous street for shopping. Angels fly overhead at Christmas, lighting up the cold winter nights, bringing festive joy to everyone. The traffic is always bustling on Regent Street. You either see vehicles jam-packed because they're stuck in front of traffic lights, or there are no vehicles because it takes forever for the traffic lights to change colours for the vehicles to move. This is the perfect opportunity for people to step into the middle of the road to take the perfect shot to share on their IG or FB account

Or on Hive.... This is my favourite photo. The angels lining up one after another in mid air, coupled with the famous black cab and red bus. Nothing shouts London more than this. And don't worry, I was perfectly safe standing in the middle of the road when I took this photo. The cab wasn't going to run into me.

Seven Dials

Nearby to Soho is Seven Dials, a junction linking up seven streets. There's a sundial column in the centre and six sundial on the side of the column, hence the name Seven Dials. During daytime, this is another very hectic area as the traffic tries to crisis cross around the seven streets. That plus all the pedestrians weaving in and out of the vehicles sometimes makes this look like a mini car park. At night time, when the traffic dies down, people just hang around by the center dial on the streets. And with the Christmas lights up, it makes it even more mesmerising.

New Bond Street

Nothing shouts bling bling, luxury and extravagant louder than New Bond Street. All the global luxury stores, you name it, can be found here. I have a feeling this year the lights must be sponsored by Chanel. There was a massive Chanel chandelier at all the junctions on New Bond Street. Absolutely breathtaking.
1000028205.jpg

The Christmas decorations at the Chanel store were just as captivating. The massive bow in the iconic Chanel blue tweed is instantly recognisable by anyone who loves fashion. Pure class.
1000028206.jpg

Next door, another French couture house Dior went with a marine theme. The two big seahorses dominated the display, and there were corals and starfish making up a marine wonderland spectacular.
1000028234.jpg

Opposite the street is Louis Vuitton, the epitome of high end luxury leather goods. In contrast to their French counterparts, LV's Christmas lights outside the building is a little low key, but it's main focus is the magical display of festive animals riding a merry go around in the shop windows.

1000028235.jpg

Not to be outdone, another French luxury house put on an equally stunning show. Cartier's astronomical display included dazzling planets and sparkling stars inside Cartier's iconic red ring boxes that orbit around the planets.
1000028208.jpg

Have you noticed one important thing missing so far? The Christmas tree!! You may have caught a glimpse of it in the Carrier photo above. This is the 5 meter tall Ralph Lauren Giving Tree. Visitors can make a donation and Ralph Lauren will hang a gold shiny star on the tree dedicated to a person of your choice. The donation will go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. I think this is a great way to spread the festive spirit around to support cancer patients and those you love.

Grosvenor Square

The other place we can remember our loved ones at Christmas is the Ever After Garden in Grosvenor Square. This beautiful garden has 30,000 white roses lit up every year at Christmas. It's a very enchanting yet poignant place, I'm sure everyone visiting will have their own memories of someone dear to them who is no longer here.
1000028204.jpg

Let the white rose whisper and beam,
For in its glow, we can still dream,
Of moments held tight, though they've slipped away,
In the heart's quiet chambers, their warmth will stay.

Christmas is a few days away and London didn't fail to ignite the spirit of Christmas. Those Christmas lights are testaments of how creative people can be because those are a work of art. for those it may just be Christmas lights, but for me it's resilience, this year was not easy for everyone but it just proves that we can still have fun and feel the essence of this holiday season despite everything

As one of the main cities in the world, London does try to keep up with appearances every year 😀

I hope your year wasn't too bad this year, and 2025 will be a much better one for you

Breathtaking, simply breathtaking.

The vibe around London was so nice, I didn't appreciate it so much when I was living there

Beautiful photos! The Christmas spirit really shines through. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it

Lovely!!!

Yeah Once I was in London in december as well and I had this same experience. I just looked at the lights all day everyday and went from light to light.

Even though london weather suck big time in december, the lights are just awesome!

Actually London weather sucks most of the time during the year 😄

We try to make up for that with other things

I thought the British weren't such big fans of Christmas decorations, but the streets are pretty.

I guess it's more to do with consumerism nowadays, but in recent years there's been more people going the whole hog in lighting up their house at Christmas. The LED lights makes it cheaper to do that and some do it for charity

Oh my what an extraordinary illumination over there! Your favorite is also my favorite! I love how they made them “float” or “fly”.. or whatever that is called! Oh how I wish I could witness that in the future!

I hope you can make it to Europe and UK sometime. Japan does some awesome Christmas lights as well, don't they?

yep! but I think London is on a next level! 😅

Beautiful decoration. So festive and cheerful! I hope to post something similar tomorrow but on a much smaller and humbler scale as those will be shots of Christmas decoration here in my Czech hometown :)

Merry Christmas to you and yours my friend! :)

@tipu curate 5

I imagine your home town is still recovering from the flooding, I hope life is getting backing on track, and I'm sure 2025 will be a much better year for everyone.

Christmas must be extra special this year as Flora will understand a lot more, it must be lovely to see her beautiful face light up on Christmas day.
You have a great Christmas as well!

You are spot on. Both paragraphs :)

Wow. Christmastime in London with all those lights is magical. The angels and store fronts and those white roses. Thank you for sharing! I applied for a job at NYU London in November and had dreams of living in London for Christmas. Unfortunately, they wanted me to have a visa. :( Now, I really want to find a way to live and work in London. Until then, I will be coming to visit for the Cambridge ceremony, which we think is in April. I will keep you updated. During my visit, I want to visit Land's End and see that Weston Super Mare is that direction.

You must let me know when you come over Sara! And yes, you'll be passing by me when you go down to the south west 😀

That's a bummer about the job, hopefully you can find something where they will sponsor you for a work visa. That will awesome and I'm sure you'll love it in London, with all the museums etc

Oh wow @livinguktaiwan, it's hard to pick one's favourite; the angel, or the stunning white roses! Christmas lights never fail to bring magic!

There's something very magical about Christmas isn't it? How's your Christmas preparations going on?

What a beautiful decoration and light show London !!!! 🤩🤩 my goodness what a beauty. A very developed and beautiful city 😍, with a great Christmas spirit 🪅. Good marketing !!! Greetings from cuba @livinguktaiwan 😊🙏🏻

Que decoración y espectáculo de luces más lindo el de London !! 🤩🤩 madre mía que belleza. Una ciudad muy desarrollada y hermosa 😍, con un gran espíritu navideño 🪅. Buen marketing!! Saludos desde cuba @livinguktaiwan 😊🙏🏻

Glad you enjoyed the virtual light tour, and greetings from UK!

Hi @livinguktaiwan thank you so much for this beautiful Christmas walk through the streets of London. I loved seeing so many people on the streets enjoying the Christmas spirit and lights. The Chanel building with its gift box bow is very original, but the Ever After Garden...left me speechless.
The second image couldn't be more emblematic, it's good to know that you were safe 😁. A warm hug to counteract the winter cold 🤗🌞, happy weekend.

I'm glad you enjoyed walking around London with me @mdrguez, and that I could send some festive vibes across the world to you. We were lucky we got to Ever After Garden in time as it was the penultimate night, I didn't know that at the time. It was a very soothing visit, very different from the buzz at New Bond Street that we visited just before.

Have a great weekend!

Lucky you and all of us who were able to see it, thanks again 🤗

Epic…. I agree with your favourite photo of the angels and the black cab and red bus. Great capture!
The blue bow is also stunning on that building…
All the lights and decorations are so christmassy 🎄🎄
Thanks for taking us along today.
Have a great weekend 🤗😊

How's Christmas at your neck of the woods Jackie? It must be even more magical. Have you reached the north pole yet 😉

Have a great weekend yourself

We missed the biggest Christmas market up here (they are only one weekend) as the weather was too bad to get through for a 2 hours drive.) Even the government warned stay at home if you don’t really need to go out. Heavy snow and blizzards. Every weekend they are in a different region. Other markets are just too far away from us now.
I really would have liked seeing one. 😔
We are planning a trip to the polar circle… not sure yet when. We waited for the snow, as visiting it we need snow in the photos hahaha

Have a wonderful Sunday Pauline.
!LUV

Wow!! You really are far up north, at this rate, you'd be living off grid soon!! The furthest north I've been so far is 68.3 in Finland. It was freezing but one of my best holiday. Hope you'll venture into the polar circle one day

We are, we could go easily off grid. We have our own well and septic tank.
Just need some solar panels and wind power haha

Wow, sounds awesome. If you dress yourself well it is all doable.
Let’s hope we will.
Have a great week 😊 Merry Christmas 🎄

Crikey, I have been in London a few times but never at Christmas. Looks awesome!

When I used to live near London I never bothered with all this and wanted to avoid the crowds. Now I enjoy my annual visits to soak up the atmosphere

Short visits are definitely best!

Your love for London truly shines through this post! The way you’ve captured the festive spirit on Regent Street is magical—those angels are iconic.

Those angels certainly are the focal point in the area

It is a magical time for sure!
My youngest son and girlfriend are visiting so it's been lovely, they've also been a big help. The neck (& shoulder) is a problem, so my next port of call is a neurosurgeon mid Jan! I just have to be careful now.
My sister-in-law's niece is hosting the whole clan for Christmas day, I'm the pudding girl🍮 My favourite job!
Have a Merry Christmas Pauline🌲

The fashion houses were competing in decoration. What a bright trip to London I had thanks to you. Merry Christmas!
