After our camping in Martins Tank, we had a full day off on Tuesday to travel. There were too many destinations including beaches, lakes, parklands, wineries estate, and so on. Choosing a perfect destination was confusion as we were baffled where to go. So we finally decided to go with a scenic drive in our car to the south west region and choose Pile Road Scenic View Point as our first destination.
The destination was about 75 kilometre from our camping site and it took only an hour to reach there travelling at a speed of 110 km/hr. The scenic point is located in Henty, which is a regional locality in the Shire of Dardanup. The nearest town/city from here is Bunbury, which is the second largest town in Western Australia after Perth.
The prominent attraction of this place is the amazing scuplture known as "The Ring", which was built by a famous local artist Andrew Frazer, who was inspired by the amazing beauty of the Ferguson valley, his birthplace. The sculpture is a large circular ring made of metal and serves as a frame where viewers can observe the natural landscape beauty of the shire of Dardanup. The ring has been put in place in such a way that aligns with the sun position, allowing the rays of sun to pass through the ring. The positioning provides the perfect frame to view sunrise and sunset. So in other words the best time to stop here is during the sunrise or during the sunset. But also it looks so glamorous during the day. In the above photo, me and my wife posing for a couple photo infront of the sculpture.
Managed to capture a few shots of the surrounding areas. No matter what, winter is the best season to observe such natural beauty- grazing livestock and lush green rolling hills in all directions. The aftermath of the rainfall take the beauty to the next level adding more charm and beauty to the surrounding areas. The view point is located to the side of the road. The parking area is also very limited.
This is just one of the stops along Ferguson valley road/ Pile road. When you travel along the way, you can see many such beautiful green hills, iconic wineries, grazing livestock along the way. To make our journey more memorable, we decided to head back to Perth through South Western Highway instead of the coastal route through Mandurah via Kwinana Freeway.
