Argentina - Trekking to Cerro de la Virgen and, as a bonus, a beautiful view of Villa General Belgrano from above. / Trekking al Cerro de la Virgen y de regalo, una hermosa vista de Villa General Belgrano desde arriba. 😃❤️

Since Córdoba is the province of greenery and mountains, it was impossible for us to miss out on a visit. Trekking was never enough for me, and if I had the opportunity to continue finding beautiful places to hike, I would seize it. Luckily for me and my dad, during our last vacation in this province, we found a perfect mountain for us during our walk in Villa General Belgrano. It was a fairly easy hike, but it promised a great panoramic view, and that's exactly what it was ❤️.

Siendo Córdoba la provincia del verde y las montañas, era imposible que nos perdamos de visitar alguna que otra. El trekking nunca era suficiente para mí, y si tenía la oportunidad de seguir encontrando lugares lindos para ir a caminar, la aprovecharía. Para mi suerte y la de mi papá, durante nuestras últimas vacaciones en esta provincia encontramos una montaña perfecta para nosotros durante nuestro paseo en Villa General Belgrano. Se trataba de una caminata no muy exigente, pero con la promesa de una gran vista panorámica y así fue ❤️.

Based in the city of Santa Rosa was a great idea on my dad's part, as from there we were able to visit several nearby towns by public transportation. One of them was Villa General Belgrano, which we arrived at fairly early in the morning. By then, it was barely noon, and we'd already explored the city streets and even visited the clock tower observation deck. We still had plenty of time, so the tourist office recommended we visit Cerro de la Virgen.

Hacer base en la ciudad de Santa Rosa fue una gran idea de parte de mi papá, ya que desde ahí pudimos visitar varias localidades cercanas en transporte público. Una de ellas fue Villa General Belgrano, a donde llegamos bastante temprano en la mañana. Para entonces, apenas era el mediodía y ya habíamos recorrido las calles de la ciudad y hasta visitado el mirador de la torre del reloj. Todavía teníamos mucho tiempo por delante, así que desde la oficina de turismo nos recomendaron visitar el Cerro de la Virgen.

Getting from the center to the entrance of this perfectly marked trail took us about 20 minutes, plus the half hour it would take to reach the summit. My dad and I are avid hikers, so all this physical activity seemed like too little time. Besides, my dad was excited because he now had proper hiking shoes, so he wanted to take advantage of them by going wherever he wanted.

LLegar desde el centro hasta la entrada de este sendero perfectamente señalizado nos tomó unos 20 minutos, además de la media hora que nos llevaría llegar hasta la cima. Mi papá y yo somos arduos caminantes, así que todo este tiempo de actividad física nos parecía poco. Además, mi papá estaba entusiasmado porque ahora tenía zapatillas adecuadas para trekking así que las quería aprovechar yendo a donde sea.

This trail was truly pleasant, and the weather was pleasant, with periods of intense sunshine but some cloud cover that tempered the heat. It was clear that this trail is heavily traveled by tourists, as it was well marked and impossible to get lost. The tourist office had told us that at the summit we would find a sculpture of a white Virgin Mary, and we hoped to see it almost there, but we didn't see it until we were practically at the top. This sculpture wasn't your typical Virgin Mary with all her human form and details, but rather a sheet metal figure composed of two flat plates in the shape of a cross. Depending on the angle from which you looked at the work, you would get a different shape of the Virgin. I loved this; it was very ingenious and unique.

Este sendero fue en verdad amigable y el clima nos acompañó con periodos de sol intenso pero con nubosidad que calmaba el calor. Se notaba que este sendero es bastante transitado por los turistas ya que estaba bien marcado y era imposible perderse. Desde la oficina de turismo nos habían dicho que en la cima encontraríamos una escultura de una virgen color blanca y esperabamos verla casi llegando, pero no la vimos hasta que estuvimos practicamente arriba de todo. Esta escultura no era la típica de la Virgen María con toda su forma humana y detalles, sino que se trataba de una figura de chapa compuesta por dos placas planas en forma de cruz. Dependiento del ángulo en que miraras la obra, obtendrías una forma diferente de la virgen. Me encantó esto, fue muy ingenioso y único.

In addition to this peak, the sign at the entrance indicated there was another peak to visit, with only an additional 200-meter stretch of trail. My dad didn't want to go and see what else lay beyond, but I certainly wasn't going to be left wondering. The truth was, this other place called "Pico Alemán" wasn't some kind of grandiose peak. It was certainly a little higher than the location of the Virgin, but it was imperceptible on foot. In any case, the mountains looked beautiful from there.

Además de esta cima, la cartelería de la entrada decía que había otro pico para visitar, con solo un tramo extra de sendero de 200 metros. Mi papá no quiso ir a ver qué más había más allá, pero yo por supuesto no iba a quedarme con la duda. La verdad fue que ese otro lugar llamado "Pico Alemán" no era algo como otra grandiosa cima, sino que seguramente era un poco más alto que la ubicación de la virgen, pero era imperceptible a nivel caminata. De todas formas, se veían lindas las montañas desde ahí.

When I returned from my solo adventure, my dad and I stayed at the sculpture for a while. We had brought some fruit, so we had our snack there. We also took a few photos, since we both like to have souvenir photos in places like these. The view from Cerro de la Virgen was impressive, and I was glad that what they had promised us at the tourist office had been true: the entire city could be seen from there ❤️.

Cuando volví de mi aventura en solitario, mi papá y yo nos quedamos un buen rato en la escultura. Habíamos llevado algunas frutas así que ahí tuvimos nuestro refrigerio. También nos tomamos unas cuantas fotos, ya que a los dos nos gusta tener fotos de recuerdo en lugares como estos. La vista desde el Cerro de la Virgen era impresionante y me alegré de que lo que nos habían prometido en la oficina de turismo haya sido cierto: la ciudad se veía completa desde ahí ❤️.

What I love about trips is that, one way or another, they always end up being great. This was my fourth visit to Villa General Belgrano, yet I'd never climbed this hill before or seen these postcard views of the city. In the end, there's always the opportunity to return and continue discovering a beautiful place. I loved sharing this hike with my dad, and above all, that he was happy to use his hiking shoes so much, which is why he bought them 😅.

Lo que me gusta de los viajes es que, de una forma u otra, siempre terminan siendo geniales. Esta fue mi cuarta visita a Villa General Belgrano y sin embargo, nunca antes había subido a este cerro ni había tenido estas postales de la ciudad. Al final, siempre queda implícita la oportunidad de volver y seguir descubriendo un lugar hermoso. Me encantó haber compartido esta caminata junto a mi papá, y por sobre todo, que el haya estado contento por usar tanto sus zapatillas de trekking que para eso las compró 😅.
