When I arrived in the city of Esquel I had nothing exactly planned, but I knew that the options for walks would not be long in coming. In my opinion, it always ends up being best to ask the locals for recommendations, because they know more than any internet forum. Luckily, the owners of the hostel where I worked this autumn were very knowledgeable about the city, so they recommended a visit to La Zeta Lagoon as my first trip. I had the option of taking a taxi, but as it was close by, I thought it would be more fun to walk there 😃.
Cuando llegué a la ciudad de Esquel no tenía nada precisamente planeado, pero sabía que las opciones de paseos no iban a tardar en llegar. En mi opinión, lo mejor siempre termina siendo preguntar a los lugareños por recomendaciones, porque son ellos quienes saben más que cualquier foro de internet. Por suerte, los dueños del hostel en donde trabajé este otoño conocían ampliamente la ciudad, por lo que, como primer paseo, me recomendaron visitar la Laguna La Zeta. Tenía la opción de ir en taxi, pero como estaba cerca, pensé que sería más divertido ir caminando 😃.
From where the flat where I lived with my roommates was located, it was about 6 km to the lagoon. This distance may sound like a lot, but it is fun if you go with someone else. That day I was able to organise with guests from the hostel to go together to the lagoon, so the journey to the lagoon was not so tiring. The path was very easy, all on the vehicle path, so it was impossible to get lost 😃.
Desde donde se ubicaba el departamento en el que vivía con mis compañeros, tenía unos 6 km hasta la laguna. Esta distancia puede sonar como mucho, pero resulta entretenido si se va acompañado. Ese día pude organizarme con huéspedes del hostel para ir juntos hasta la laguna, por lo que el tramo hasta allá no se hizo tan pesado. El camino era muy sencillo, todo por el sendero vehicular, así que era imposible perderse 😃.
The La Zeta Lagoon area is a nature reserve with a few trails around it. Unless there is usually a special event, we were told that this area is always quiet and that was the case when we were there. The day we were there was beautiful: the weather was inviting to be outside so we spread out our day to do everything we wanted to do. This included a little rest on the shores of the lagoon, but also stretching our legs a bit more to complete some of the trails in the area 😃.
La zona de Laguna La Zeta es una reserva natural con unos cuantos senderos alrededor. A menos que suela haber algún evento especial, nos dijeron que esta área siempre es tranquilo y así fue cuando estuvimos por ahí. El día que nos tocó era hermoso: el clima invitaba a estar afuera así que distribuimos nuestro día para hacer todo lo que queríamos. Esto incluía descansar un poco a orillas de la laguna, pero también estirar un poco más las piernas hasta completar alguno de los senderos del lugar 😃.
The shore of the lagoon seemed to me a good place to rest and spend the afternoon. These waters did not look very deep, but it is said that some people still go there to cool off in the summer. You might think that in the south of Argentina it is always cold, but in places like Esquel, the summers are very hot and the winters are snowy. This autumn we had an in-between climate, with just the right temperature to be outside enjoying the day without suffering from either extreme 😅.
La orilla de la laguna me pareció un buen lugar para descansar y pasar la tarde. Estas aguas no se veían muy profundas, pero dicen que hay gente que igualmente se mete a refrescarse en el verano. Uno puede pensar que en sur de Argentina siempre hace frío, pero en lugares como Esquel, los veranos son muy calurosos y los inviernos nevados. En este otoño nos tocó un clima intermedio, con la temperatura adecuada como para estar afuera aprovechando el día sin sufrir por ninguno de los dos extremos 😅.
The postcard of Esquel from the Laguna La Zeta is one of the most beautiful you can have of this place. I recommend visiting this place around sunset, when the sun starts to go down and form a mirror on the water. The combination of mountains and lagoon with some green around is beautiful, creating a unique landscape all day long. I quite enjoyed visiting this place, it was so peaceful and quiet that it didn't even seem to be that close to the city 😃.
La postal de Esquel que se tiene desde la Laguna La Zeta es una de las más lindas que se puede tener de este lugar. Recomiendo visitar este lugar en horas cercanas al atardecer, para cuando el sol empieza a bajar y a formar un espejo sobre el agua. La combinación de montañas y laguna con un poco de verde alrededor es hermosa, creando un paisaje único durante todo el día. Me gustó bastante visitar este lugar, era tan tranquilo y silencioso que ni parecía estar tan cerca de la ciudad 😃.
Of course, if we had taken a taxi the journey would only have taken about 20 minutes, but I think walking also had its magic. The part I like the most about volunteering in different hostels in my country is the social part, like that day when we had the opportunity to share an extra moment with the guests. Visiting Laguna La Zeta for the first time was great, and I liked it so much that I took the trouble to go a few more times to spend my free afternoons. A place as beautiful and peaceful as this deserves to be visited several times, and that's exactly what I did ❤️.
Por supuesto que si hubiéramos tomado un taxi el recorrido hubiese sido de solo unos 20 minutos, pero creo que ir caminando también tuvo su magia. La parte que más me gusta de hacer voluntariados en distintos hosteles de mi país es la social, como ese día que tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir un momento extra con los huéspedes. Visitar la Laguna La Zeta por primera vez fue algo genial, y me gustó tanto que me tomé la molestia de ir algunas veces más a pasar mis tardes libres. Un lugar tan lindo y tranquilo como este merece ser visitado varias veces, y eso fue justamente lo que hice ❤️.
