Excursion to the apiary with bees without stingers in Costa Rica. Cruise in the Southern Caribbean.

in Worldmappin2 years ago (edited)

So, the first port of stop, Costa Rica, the port of Puerto Limon, or simply Limon.
And our first tour.
We took an excursion to the apiary, where they announced to us bees that do not have a sting.
And a walk in the park, where you can meet different local inhabitants of flora and fauna.
As you remember from the last post, we found our bus with a driver and guide, and went somewhere in Costa Rica.

We drove to the apiary for about an hour.
Our guide told us different information about Costa Rica, we passed banana plantations and finally arrived at the apiary.

When we turned off the asphalt road, we drove for another 10 minutes through the forest, somewhere into the forest.
The vegetation in Puerto Limon is dense, everything grows there instantly, so the greenery fills absolutely everything.
People are reclaiming land from greenery for their estates and plantations.

And we already got off the bus, he stayed to wait for us, and went on foot to the house in the distance.

It turned out to be the house where the owners of the apiary live.

And right next to the house, on a tree, they have a sloth. 😍

The house has a large veranda, which immediately serves as both a showroom and a lecture hall.
There are benches and honey products that this apiary produces.

And this is a wonderful owner of the apiary and this business. If all people on our planet would be like this, there would be peace, happiness and honey everywhere. 😘

We listened to a lecture about how they started this business, if I'm not mistaken, 7 years ago.
They told about how volunteers help them, who build different houses for bees, help to transplant bees into other hives, help to collect beehives if a hurricane is planned (I think this is the most difficult and difficult thing).

The biggest surprise for me was the information that there are 20,000 species of bees in the world.
And what struck me was the size of the bees that flew around us, which I at first mistook for a swarm of midges. Because bees are half the size of my fingernail.
One of the hives hung right on the veranda where we sat, I thought it was just some kind of box hanging. But then it turned out that small flies constantly fly there, which turned out to be bees, and this is a hive.

Then we went to the site where almost all the hives are located.
Very impressive, because the hives are all different, and it seems that you are in some kind of fairy tale with small houses or a cartoon.

I kept trying to photograph and take the size of the bees.
The photo did not turn out very well, watch the video at the end of the post, maybe you can see it better there.

And also admire the beehives - houses.
Some are made like fairy houses.

And some are right in the trunks of cut trees.
Yes, there is a sign next to each hive, on which the type of bees and their characteristics are written, just like in this picture.

These houses remind me of birdhouses, the same style.

And from the side to look, it's a whole fabulous glade with houses.

And here the hostess has a small garden where she grows cucumbers and other vegetables.
And here, too, there are beehives made of pieces of whole tree trunks.

Where there is honey, there are by-products: pollen, propolis and others.
I saw natural propolis for the first time. It is soft and bends.

And here is such a big and wide - also propolis.

And these are products made from honey, which they sell here in the apiary.
Honey, propolis, pollen, shampoo and hair balm and soap.

I'll show you a close-up of what we bought.

The tour lasted an hour and a half. Very friendly atmosphere.
This bee farm has an instagram, there are many interesting meetings with children and volunteers, if you are interested, subscribe to them and see:

We were satisfied, bought everything that you see in the photo, and went on to ride around Costa Rica.

Where we went next, I will tell in the next post.

And now you can watch my video from the apiary, where I collected everything in one video:

To be continued.

Hello,

It's incredible there are 20,000 species of bees in the world, that is something I learn today. It's wonderful that Apiary has created a home for these important creatures and the design of the houses look like fairy houses. I love them💖. Those products will be amazing to use and they are organic right?

I like all the photos. They are beautifully shot and vibrant. I am sure you enjoyed dense vegetation in Puerto Limon. Thank you for sharing your excursion experience. It's a pleasure to read to from you. 😊
