Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai, Thailand : Ancient temple in Lanna art style with the emerald buddha and the museum.

How are you today? I hope all is well with you and your family. In this post I take everyone to see another important and ancient temple in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Chiang Rai is the northernmost province of the country. This province has many beautiful tourist attractions, especially temples. Beautiful and famous temples in the province are Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), Wat Rong Suea Ten. (Blue Temple), Wat Huay Pla Kang and other temples. And one of them is Wat Phra Kaew. Ancient and important temple of Chiang Rai. This temple has an interesting history. Before I take everyone to see the temple. I would like to share interesting brief information about Wat Phra Kaew.

Brief information about Wat Phra Kaew.

This temple is a royal temple. There is unclear information about the building of Wat Phra Kaew. But this temple is an ancient temple that is more than 500 years old. The original name of Wat Phra Kaew was called Wat Pa Ya. In AD 1434 or 590 years ago the temple's pagoda collapsed. And found the Emerald Buddha in the pagoda. Now this Emerald Buddha was moved to Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, Bangkok. And is the sacred buddha image of Thailand. Thai people call the Emerald Buddha : Phra Kaew Morakot. So the name of the temple was changed from Wat Pa Ya to Wat Phra Kaew and the temple has been restored until now.

Architecture, sculptures and atmosphere inside the temple.

This temple although it is in the Chiang Rai city area and has been restored. But the atmosphere is quiet and like being in a temple from the past. The architecture in the temple is built and decorated in the original Lanna style (Original northern Thai art). Which has a unique identity that is different from temples in the central region and other regions of the country. And most of the buddha images in this temple are Lanna style buddha images too.

The buddha image hall (viharn) of the temple, you can clearly see the uniqueness of the original Lanna art style. I think this buddha image hall (viharn) is a beautiful buddha image hall (viharn) decorated with simple Lanna art patterns. Looks classic from the past.

The inside of the buddha image hall (viharn) is decorated in Lanna style as well. There are 7 buddha images inside the buddha image hall (viharn). All buddha images are buddha images in the attitude of subduing Mara. The main buddha image is named Phra Chao Lan Thong.

On the sides of the buddha image hall (viharn) are various buildings. These buildings are also built in the Lanna style. And there is also a museum building.

The museum of this temple is an interesting two-story museum. Inside the museum there are old buddha images, most of these buddha images are Lanna style buddha images. In addition there are also utensils in the past. This trip I have limited time. So I'm sharing just some of the things in this museum.

Behind the temple is a small buddha image hall (viharn). Inside there is another emerald buddha which is beautiful and is the highlight of the temple.

The pagoda of the temple, the pagoda has been restored. This pagoda is an octagonal pagoda and is an important ancient site of the country.

Inside the temple there are also many pavilions. Some pavilions have buddha statues inside the pavilions.

The entrance to the temple is a large Lanna style arch.

Finally, most of the area and atmosphere are shady with trees and flowers.
