To reach the paradise palm grove in Preveli, in the south of the island of Crete, you first have to descend from a high slope, which I did not know about before. I thought we would drive the car to the beach, but there was such a surprise. I had to trek in the heat, but fortunately with a wonderful reward at the bottom. A refreshing swim in the sea or in a river surrounded by magnificent palm trees.
I could also admire beautiful views from the top. In the distance you could see the turquoise sea, the beach and numerous palm trees, as well as the mountain slopes. And ships that come to Preveli from the nearby town of Plakias. When arriving from there, you have to take into account time constraints and adjust to the times at which ships arrive and depart. However, going down the mountain requires effort, but in my opinion you gain something most valuable - freedom. You can stay on the beach and in the palm grove in Preveli as long as you want.
You walk down to the beach on red ground and uneven, often steep stones. There are several hundred of them. The people I passed who were climbing the mountain in the heat looked exhausted. Going down wasn't the easiest either. I was very tired.
The beach in Preveli is intimate, small, but also cool and natural. You won't find typical beach infrastructure here - sun loungers and umbrellas. I was very positively surprised by the water temperature, which was much warmer than the water in the town where I stayed during my stay in Crete, in the north of the island. I thought that in October I would have some warm sea temperature, but instead it was cold. However in Preveli the temperature was higher and I wanted to swim in the sea longer.
The beaches in Greece got me used to the fact that you can often meet animals there. On the Balos lagoon I was accosted by goats and cats, and in Preveli there are geese. They are not afraid of tourists. They walk between towels spread on the sand and demand food 😋
I am so happy that you visited my island and that you enjoyed yourself!
I hope you get to come back soon!

@katerinaramm I was on the island of Crete last week and a year ago. I will definitely go back there again someday. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful place 😊
You have brought back beautiful memories, I visited Preveli a few years ago and it was one of the places I liked the most in Crete, a real gem. Greetings! :)
I'm glad that my post brought back nice memories for you @sofathana 😊 What other beautiful places have you seen in Crete? Have a nice day! 😊
I spent 10 days on the island, I stayed in Chania and from there I visited Knossos, Elafonisi, Herakleion, Samaria Gorge, Rethymnon, Preveli, Falasarna, Stavros, Kasteli.... anyway I missed a lot, I think it takes about a month to visit almost everything. Have a nice day too! :)
In one way or another, Crete seems like one of those hidden gems offered by nature even though the island is something that most of the people already heard about. But it looks so wild and solitude most of the time, that makes me feel it still underated when it comes to touris atteactions
I was also positively surprised by this island. It is so diverse and has so many interesting places to discover and awesome nature. It's definitely a hidden gem among the tourist spots 😉
I have been waiting to see a post from your trip 😊
It is such a beautiful place and I can imagine you enjoyed it a lot. I would love to spend a day or two here. The beach is gorgeous, and the entire place looks so relaxing and natural - untouched or disturbed.
The geese are the best part for me. I would be overjoyed!
Cool 😎
In such a place you can take a break from everything that is difficult and enjoy life. I managed to do it a bit 😉 You're right that this beach was very natural and a bit wild... and that made it even more special and nicer to be there. I plan to write more posts about my trip to the island of Crete. Have a good day @blind-spot! 😊
