Hey there digital nomads, here is another epic view of one of the most attractive spots in the entire southern African coastline. It’s way down south, about 34 degrees south latitude and 23 degrees east, roughly. It’s called Plettenberg Bay and right now we have the Easter weekend, a grand holiday time for all. As a result the little tourist town of Plett is expanding with holiday makers, both local and international.
I have the truly good fortune to be able to visit here on occasion and bask in the beauty of nature at her best. Perhaps I have some pious karma from a past life. Whatever it is, the gods have smiled upon me and allowed me to relax in this idyllic atmosphere of seaside sun and sublime salty stillness while all the world spins around me at a dizzy pace.
If you want to find the calm eye of the storm, then this is the place. Just hop on a bus and don’t make any fuss because Plett is filled with super beaches that stretch for miles in either direction. All this space in sublime natural surroundings is a gift and it’s free, so I’m revealing it to you today and inviting you to share in the blissful atmosphere.
These beaches are clean and white, with soft sand and gentle waves. It’s a real paradise and I would say this is about as good as it get on Planet Earth. There are always better beaches around the world, if you look hard enough, but this one is still one of the top level first class beaches so add it to your travel itinerary, if you are an avid beach lover like me.
The place exudes good health and uplifting and supportive nurturing environment. Some of the rocks here in today’s photos look to me like animal profiles. Have a look and see if you can notice the pig’s head, snout and all, overlooking the warm Indian ocean.
This little part of Plettenberg Bay is called Robberg beach and we are at the very end of the beach, where it meets the Robberg peninsula, which is a marine reserve and nature sanctuary for a large seal colony and various other wildlife and sea birds. The wealthy folk have a house here on the beach or overlooking the bay and I would say they have good taste. After all, location is everything. When it comes to obtaining peace of mind and good health, then it pays to situate yourself in the ideal suitable environment, and this is just such a place.
I’m currently camping in a forest area just near the beach, using solar power to run my laptop and wifi connectivity. Daily power depends upon the amount of sun available for my humble panel. Today is epic and hot, but the extreme warm conditions are bringing a rainy Easter weekend ahead for all the locals and holiday makers this year. That’s how nature rolls.
As a result I have a bit of power to upload this blog post, but I will have to conserve power for the next few days, if overcast and rainy weather arrives. I won’t be able to charge up my solar battery much. So minimal laptop use and internet access will be the order of the day for a bit. And that’s fine because I can ration my laptop in such a way that I at least have the ability to upload more inspiring photos and insights for you fellow digital nomads.
Today I used the hot weather to also forage for bits of fire wood in the surrounding woods. I have it stacked up and ready for the coming rain. The fire will be great as a source of warmth and for cooking while it remains overcast or rainy. What a beautiful life, in touch with nature and the elements. By simplifying life and getting back to nature, I have been able to find more peace and have slowed the pace of life, which is healthy in the long run.
This is the way to adapt now that power is becoming a scare commodity. It’s not as plentiful as it used to be, where we had uninterrupted electricity. Those days are over here in sunny South Africa. So the smart move is to become self-sufficient regarding power and water, and ideally foodstuffs too, as much as possible. That’s what I’m doing and that’s what I recommend for you, wherever you may be on the planet. Times are changing, so get ready folks.
And situate yourself in a beautiful environment to ride out the coming storm. Literally and figuratively there appears to be storm clouds on the horizon. Those who prepare by collecting fuel and storing power and resources will survive comfortably. And if you have a beautiful beach like this one on the south coast of Africa, which also happens to be right next to some indigenous forest, then you are in paradise and the storm can pass you by while you hardly notice it. That’s my plan. What’s yours?
(photos my own)
Those are really large rocks at the beach, and the soft white sands you described must be really comforting to feel. I am impressed the beach is really crowded and that is rare. A cool place to stay and meditate.
