Haven't you ever felt like life has become a bit too much and that all you need is just a breather? Well, that is exactly how I felt before our trip to Camotes Island.
Our Journey Begins
Early that morning, our adventure started in the seaport of Danao City, where we boarded a ferry bound for Camotes Island.
The fare on the ferry was about PHP 180 to PHP 220 per head, depending on whether you want to go on an economy or an air-conditioned seat. Traveling took approximately two hours, just enough time for us to enjoy gently swaying with the movement of the sea. We hope that it will be great, just as we expected it to be. If you are travelling during peak season, be early at the port and reserve your tickets to avoid long queues at the ticket house. The refreshing breeze and warm smiles from locals welcomed us upon arrival. We arranged a multicab rental, which cost us PHP 2,000.00 per day, which would bring us around the island for convenience. It is best to coordinate with your driver in advance to maximize your itinerary.
Camotes Adventure Highlights
Tulang Diot
First to stop was Tulang Diot, a small island not too far from the main island. This is a picturesque spot with powdery white sand and waters so clear you can see the fish swimming beneath the surface. We spent hours swimming, taking photos, and simply relaxing under the shade of palm trees.
Entrance into the place is a minimal PHP 20, while boat rentals are about PHP 500 round trip, thus making it an affordable paradise for all.
Buho Rock
Next on our list was Buho Rock, a cliffside spot apt for all adventure seekers. This site is famous for its diving platform, where the brave among us leaped into the sparkling blue waters below. Even if you are not a fan of cliff diving, the stunning views from the top make the visit worth it. Entrance to Buho Rock is only PHP 20, and it's a great place to soak in the island's beauty.
Paraiso Cave
The Paraiso Cave was one of the highlights of our trip. This hidden cave has refreshing underground pools. The water is cool and inviting, offering a perfect respite from the summer heat. The entrance fee is PHP 50, and swimming in such a unique setting is truly magical. The cave is well-maintained, with lights and pathways ensuring a safe and enjoyable visit.
Heaven Cave
Another interesting cave we were able to see was the Heaven Cave, which is known for its natural skylights, which enable sunlight to enter and illuminate the crystal-like water at the bottom of the cave. The general ambiance of this cave, plus the awesome rock formations, can leave us awestruck. Entrance is also PHP 50, and it must be on your list to visit if you are a nature lover or love photography.
Mangodlong Rock Beach
Of course, no trip to Camotes would have been complete without spending more time at its beautiful beaches. We went to one of them-Mangodlong Rock Beach-with swimming, sunbathing, and fresh seafood foods. Depending on the capacity and location, you can rent very cozy cottages here for around PHP 150 to PHP 500. And ending the day with sunset sightseeing here was just perfect of a sky full of colors.
Affordable and Delicious Food One of the things we loved about Camotes was how affordable it was to eat. Simple eateries sell a mix of Filipino dishes, from fish to kinilaw, at PHP 100 or lower per meal. We've also tried the fresh buko juice, which is really refreshing and at a very reasonable price of PHP 30. If you want to cook your food, some markets sell fresh seafood and other ingredients.
Tips for Future Travelers
Plan Ahead: Compile all the places you would intend to visit and discuss them with the transportation provider so it can make all the relevant arrangements for a smooth trip.
Bring Cash: Although many places do take some digital forms of payment, plan to have cash on hand to pay for entrance fees, boat rentals, and incidentals.
Travel Light: Take only what is needed, such as your swimming costume, sunscreen, and a water-resistant bag in which to keep your belongings.
Respect Nature: Leave the island clean by depositing trash in their appropriate places, and do not make actions that would lead to environmental degradation.
Hydrate: The tropical heat might be insurmountably hot, so drink plenty of water and take rest when you need it.
How to Get There
Getting to Camotes Island isn't a problem. From the Cebu North Bus Terminal in Cebu City, take either a bus or a van ride to Danao City. It would take an hour with charges ranging from PHP 50 up to PHP 100. Once at the Danao City seaport, purchase your ticket and hop on the ferry going to Camotes. Once there, you can hire either a multicab, motorcycle, or tricycle to get you across the island.
The sunset here was just amazing. Watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon, turning the sky into shades of orange and pink, was such a beautiful sight which made it the perfect way to end our day the Island.
A Memorable Experience
The Camotes Island getaway was genuinely remarkable. With the outstanding beauty of nature, friendly people, and a cheap Voyager trip, it was simply perfect. From adventurers and beach lovers to retreatists, Camotes has something in store for each. To top it all, it was with the family, making the experience very special and memories etched forever. So, if you're planning for your next destination, why not try visiting Camotes Island? Let the beauty be enthralling, just as it had been for us. Prepare your sense of adventure, and voilà- a memorable voyage awaits!
