The Caribbean Germany

in Worldmappin11 days ago

After a couple of stops, one at the Fábrica de Galletas and another at Diversiones La Ballesta, we finally arrived at this beautiful town hidden among the hills and high mountains of Aragua State in Venezuela, La Colonia Tovar. Originally populated by Germans, almost 40 years ago, it is characterized by maintaining an architecture of Colonial Germany, and the climate helps to make the feeling more pleasant, as it is usually very cool, in fact there I heard that they call it the Germany of the Caribbean. We were here in high season, so the best pictures are like this first one I share above, the ones I took from far away, since the town was very crowded.

This beautiful place is maintained by agriculture and tourism, you can see large orchards along the trip, and I was pleasantly surprised to see many peaches along the way. In all the restaurants, inns and special places, the people who serve the public dress in typical clothes of the Germany of yesteryear, that is another great detail that makes the experience in the town special. I was mainly carried away by the architecture and the different types of houses. There were a lot of people that day, but you can photograph several of them and you can appreciate them in the following pictures that I took on my way to the town's Plaza Bolivar.

People's Museum

We walked these streets for two hours and took the opportunity to have lunch in a quaint restaurant. We were lost looking for the church, but eventually we asked around and were told we were on the right track. In the narrow streets of the colony there were all kinds of rustic cars, of family and small sizes and there were many motorized ones, really the place was full of people, but the weather was getting cooler as the hours went by and that was worth it. At the moment I got separated with my wife who was with her mom on the other side of the street, and I was with mine, but finally we met at Plaza Bolivar, in front of the popular Church of Colonia Tovar, which I remembered by its facade because we once sang here, but as I was brought by bus I didn't remember the way 😅

Venezuela is full of wonderful places, I know this happens in many places too, but there is something magical in our mountains, our beaches, our plains and jungles. This country has it all, maybe in small doses, but it has many scenarios. I don't know how many colonies of European origin are still here, but Colonia Tovar is very special and it makes me happy to know that they have taken care of preserving this place over time, offering an escape for those of us who live in Caracas or Aragua State, or a small vacation season for those who come from another part of the country or from other borders. Undoubtedly this is a destination in Venezuela that no one should miss ❤️
