A visit to Brijuni, a national park in Croatia

Hello everyone, today I will continue to share with you the beautiful landscapes of Croatia. As I mentioned in my previous posts, my sister-in-law recently visited the Croatian coast and shared with me photos of some beautiful places that I am always happy to look at because of the fond memories they bring to me. This time I am taking you to Brijuni National Park, a place where history and incredible nature come together.

Nowadays, it is rare to see untouched nature where the human hands does not destroy and change the environment. One of such places is Brijuni National Park, which has been delighting visitors for years, offering them the chance to feel like they are in paradise, at least for a while. My sister-in-law says that this place must be experienced because its beauty and tranquility cannot be described in words.

Brijuni is a group of islands in the Adriatic Sea that can be reached by boat from the town Fazana.

Fazana is an old town that has been known for fishing, growing olives and vines since Roman times, and today it is a popular tourist destination.

Brijuni islands spread over a large area and it is impossible to visit all its parts in one day, but there are organized train rides to the most interesting spots.

The entire area of ​​Brijuni is protected as a cultural monument of great historical importance because there are traces from the earliest era of human existence. Each community that lived there left something of its own, so there are many archaeological remains of prehistoric communities as well as many statues and churches, towers and other fortifications from the Venetian era and other periods.

Brijuni was built of stone, so in the Venetian era there was a quarry here. Later, walking paths were built there, very pleasant for walking in a beautiful environment.

One interesting detail that caught my attention is Koch's quarry, which expresses gratitude to Dr. Robert Koch who, in the 20th century, helped cure people of malaria on the island.

The museum exhibits on Brujini that can be seen here refer to various historical periods.

There are a lot of old historical monuments such as the stone inscriptions from the 11th century, written in the Glagolitic script, the first Slavic alphabet.

There are also exhibits dedicated to the famous president of the former Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, who liked to spend time here and even had his own personal paradise in addition to the many benefits he enjoyed. As the then president, he enjoyed immense respect from the people. Everyone loved him, which made him a unique historical figure. He received many gifts, including animals, stuffed and alive...

Many important historical moments and meetings with various delegations, as well as the moment of signing the famous Brioni Declaration, are also presented.

The fauna and flora of Brijuni islands is very rich and there are many species that live freely in nature. There is a Safari Park that covers 9 hectares of a unique zoo that is home to autochthonous but also exotic species such as the Indian elephant, South American camel, cows, zebras, etc.

This post presents only one small part of the unique Brijuni National Park, a place worth visiting when you want to escape from everyday life to a zone of peace and nature, as I would say a kind of paradise.
