"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom."
Aristotle
During my stay in Greece, we visited Ancient Stagira, the birthplace of the famous philosopher Aristotle. We headed to Babylon beach, which is located near this place, but we didn't want to miss the opportunity to follow the footsteps of the famous Aristotle, to the place where he was born.
We parked on the highway from which you can walk uphill to the historical spot.
But before we entered, we stopped to look at the island in the distance that resembles a turtle.
It was very hot and we were warned not to go all the way up there with the kids, but my son was very interested in going with me so we headed up there and my daughter and husband were waiting for us in the shade.
We went through the gate and started up the path.
This place belongs to the Halkidiki peninsula, where there are other remains of ancient Greek cities that we will visit another time.
The dirt road continues up the hill to the remains of the old city of Aristotle.
Along the way, we read about the plants that grow here. The flora is very rich and each plant had its own purpose in Ancient Greece.
And finally we climbed up to the ruins of the city.
When I found myself among those remains of walls and ruins, I felt the ancient Greek spirit.
This ancient city was founded around 655 BC and suffered many changes during its existence but still survived.
I saw the well and told my son to move around carefully. He was delighted. He likes to explore historical sites with me.
The views from the top were fabulous!
We enjoyed looking at the beautiful blue Aegean sea.
In the vicinity of this place is Olimpiada town and many beautiful surrounding beaches. After sightseeing, we headed to one of those beaches, called Babylon, which I will write about in one of the next posts.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
