ROAD TO HIVEFEST // SECOND STOP DUBROVNIK - CROATIA (PART 1)

Hello Friends.

If you catched-up my last post, you will already know that we were on roadtrip a couple weeks ago with my man @knowhow92, to attend HiveFest 2024. Our first stop was at the beautiful and quaint city of Kotor at Montenegro. ROAD TO HIVEFEST // FIRST STOP - KOTOR, MONTENEGRO

Our next destination was a city that I was really looking forward to it, especially as a Game Of Thrones series fan. Yes it's Dubrovnik. It is actually said that it is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, almost 1.5 million tourists per year, for a city with a population of just 41,000 people. That's actually a pretty insane number of people for such a small city and of course this overtourism except from a large income for the local owners, it causes lower quality of life for locals and increased prices. But let's move on an find out if Dubrovnik really worth all that hype.

We arrived at Dubrovink around midday and as soon as we left our luggages at the hotel we took a bus to transfer us to the old town. We also bought a card that is called Dubrovnik pass which offers you free transportation and also free entrances to many museums and monuments and it is really worthy if you want to explore the old town.

As soon as you enter the old town from the Pile gate first thing you see is this big round polygonal structure, Onofrio’s Fountain. The fountain designed by an Italian architecture and as you can see it is decorated with detailed carved mask which serve as water taps. The water from the fountain is drinkable and most of people were filling their bottles, if you consider that a small bottle of water costs around 3 euros.

Next to the Onofrio's fountain, there is a Dalmatian Renaissance building with Gothic interior. It is the Church of the Holy Savior. Loved the elaborate window at the center.

We followed the main street inside of the old town which called Stradun to explore more.

We stopped to admire the St Blaise’s Church, a beautiful Baroque church that was built at 1715 by the Venetian architect, Marino Gropelli. So many beautiful Baroque details.

We continue exploring by entering the 4th-century Baroque Franciscan Church and Monastery. There is big square outdoor corridor decorated with carved columns and at the center there is a garden with a fountain. You can also visit the inside and see a huge collection of ancient manuscripts and relics. The entrance to the monastery was included in the Dubrovnik pass.

We also visited MOMAD, the museum of modern art of Durovnik which was about a km from the old town. The building that hosts the museum is a palace that built by Dubrovnik ship-owner Božo Banac. Inside of the building there was a two-floor painting exhibition full of Croatian contemporary art, which was really interesting to see. At the courtyard of the museum there was an exhibition full of beautiful elaborate sculptures. I can say that the museum worth the visit for sure.

After the MOMAD, late in the afternoon we entered again the old town to walk around an explore more.

This city is so full of beautiful things to see for real. I mean when you enter, your eyes literaly don't know where to fucus. And the architecture..so imposing, it gives you the chills especially when you start thinking about all the history of this place. It is so worth to visit the old town at the day and at night as well, both gives you a different perspective.

That's pretty much all about our 1/2 days staying at Dubrovnik. We walked around 8 km that day, but if you have so amazing things to explore it does not consist a problem. Trust me there are more amazing thing to do in Dubrovnik that's why I splitted the post in two parts.
