Today, I have the pleasure of inviting you to discover, explore, and learn a bit about ancient artistic culture at the Universal Art Building (Palacio del Centro Asturiano). You will see a spectacular treasure of unique painting and sculpture collections on the island, along with the fascinating design and architecture of Cuba's National Museum of Fine Arts.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a conocer, estudiar y aprender un poco de la cultura artística antigua en el edificio de Arte Universal (Palacio del Centro Asturiano). Conocerán un tesoro espectacular en colecciones de pinturas y esculturas únicas en la isla, además del fascinante diseño y arquitectura que muestra el Museo Nacional de Bellas Arte de Cuba.

To begin with, this palace has been a recurring place for me, as I enjoy exploring rooms and galleries throughout the country in search of interesting treasures that catch my attention.
The building is nestled very close to the centrally located Central Park at San Rafael Street, corner of Zulueta. It holds a valuable and rich collection of universal artworks and is the largest of its kind in the Caribbean Islands. It is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was inaugurated in 1927 as the headquarters of the Centro Asturiano, a society of Spanish immigrants.
Para comenzar este palacio ha sido un lugar recurrente para mí, ya que me gusta recorrer salas y galerías en todo el país, en busca de joyas interesantes que capten mí atención.
La instalación está enclavada muy cerca del céntrico Parque Central en Calle San Rafael, esq. a Zulueta, atesora una valiosa y rica colección de obras universales y es el mayor del Caribe Insular. Es catalogado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Siendo inaugurado en 1927 como sede del Centro Asturiano, una sociedad de inmigrantes españoles.
The majestic building, with its eclectic style and Neo-Baroque influences, features a monumental facade of columns, balconies, and carved ornaments, showcasing European architecture from the late 19th century.
Immediately after ascending the first grand staircase leading to the museum's second floor, our eyes are dazzled by a colossal and stunning stained-glass ceiling in the building. It depicts the three ships used by Admiral Christopher Columbus on his voyage of discovery.
El majestuoso edificio con estilo ecléctico e influencia neobarroca, contiene una fachada monumental de columnas, balcones y ornamentos tallados con una arquitectura europea de finales del siglo XIX.
Justo después de subir la primera amplia escalinata que conduce a la segunda planta del museo son deslumbrados nuestros ojos con un colosal e impresionante vitral en el techo del edificio. El cual, representa a las tres embarcaciones empleadas por el Almirante Cristóbal Colón en su viaje de descubrimiento.
Also capturing my attention are the hanging lamps and antique chandeliers.
In general, the exhibitions are organized by floor. On the first floor, we find collections of Mexican Art and the North American School; on the second floor, Spanish Art; on the third, Ancient Art (Greek, Egyptian, Roman, and Sumerian); and on the top floor, representative works of the German School.
Captando mi atención también están las lámparas colgantes y candelabros antiguos.
En general las exposiciones se presentan distribuidas por pisos, pues tenemos que en la primera planta se encuentran las colecciones de Arte Mexicano y de la Escuela Norteamericana, en la segunda planta el Arte Español, en la tercera el Arte antiguo (griego, egipcio, romano y sumerio) y en la última planta se encuentran obras representativas de la Escuela Alemana.
The classical marble sculptures, such as the carved lion and the female figures, are pieces of Roman art that you will find displayed in various interior spaces. The art spans from the Republican era to the Paleochristian period of Imperial Rome.
Las esculturas clásicas de mármol como el león tallado y las figuras de mujer son piezas de arte romana que encontrarás desplegadas en varios espacios del interior. El arte fue producido desde la época republicana hasta la etapa paleocristiana en la Roma imperial.
The museum houses a theater and an extensive cultural program, including temporary exhibitions, concerts, discussions, and more. It also holds important pieces of ancient art, featuring collections from Greece, Rome, and Egypt, though this area is currently under restoration.
However, I was at least able to access part of the collection representing Sumerian and Egyptian culture. There, we find amphorae, cuneiform writing tablets, and figurines crafted from bronze, limestone, marble, and other types of stone.
El museo cuenta con un teatro y extenso programa cultural, que incluye exposiciones transitorias, conciertos, tertulias,etc. Atesora además importantes piezas de arte antiguo, que abarca colecciones de Grecia, Roma y Egipto, pero esta zona estaba actualmente en restauración.
Pero al menos pude acceder a una parte de la colección que representa a la cultura sumeria y egipcia, donde encontramos ánforas, tablillas de escritura cuneiforme y estatuillas manufacturadas en bronce, caliza, mármol y otros tipos de piedras.
As the afternoon progresses, the sun paints the city with warm tones that transform every corner: from the historic facades to the most modern buildings.
The exhibitions are equipped with modern lighting, climate control, and comprehensive security systems.
This museum gallery features display cases showcasing historical artifacts. Here we have vessels made of clay, belonging to the Tell El-'Obeid culture dating back to 3400 BCE, as well as cuneiform tablets made of clay from the Sumerian period during the First and Third Dynasties of Ur (around 2000 BCE). Additionally, there are figures and sculptures made of bronze, marble, limestone, and other materials, representing Egyptian deities, priests, and other elements of worship.
Las exhibiciones se encuentran equipadas con modernos sistemas de iluminación, climatización y seguridad integral.
Esta sala museográfica cuenta vitrinas que exhiben piezas históricas, aquí tenemos vasijas confeccionadas en arcilla y pertenecientes a la cultura Tell-El-Obeid que data del 3400 a.n.e., tablillas cuneiformes elaboradas en barro y pertenecientes al período sumerio en las Dinastías I y III de Ur. Por allá por los años 2000 a.n.e, así como figuras y esculturas de bronce, mármol, piedra caliza, etc. que representan deidades egipcias, sacerdotes y otros elementos de culto.
Moving on to the section featuring universal paintings from various regions, there are galleries dedicated to Italian, Flemish, Dutch, Mexican, German, French, and British art.
Many of the works are inspired by religion, monumental structures of the era, landscapes, and wealthy families.
Llegando a la parte de las pinturas universales de distintas regiones, se expresan salas de arte italiano, flamenco, holandés, mexicano, alemán, francés y británico.
Muchas inspiradas en religión, estructuras monumentales de la época, paisajes y familias ricas.
Enamel on glass is an art form that impresses throughout the galleries and window surrounds. They are mostly located in rest areas, designed to take advantage of good lighting and to capture the vision of these interesting creators, beautiful in their vibrant tones.
El esmalte sobre vidrio es un arte que impresiona a los alrededores de las galerías y ventanales. Mayormente están ubicadas en áreas de descanso, para obtener buena iluminación y captar la idea de estos interesantes creadores, bellas en tonalidades vivas.
I must confess that I am not an expert in art, but I have a knack for drawing and painting; and I especially love landscapes, portraits, and seascapes. European painting forms the largest collection, featuring prominent examples of Italian and Flemish Renaissance, Spanish Baroque, 19th-century French paintings, and, in particular, 18th-century British painting.
That's all for today. I appreciated every style of the creators—a perfect combination of colors for my taste—and an immense building with a collection of universal art that I would visit again. I am very curious to know what you think of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba.

Debo confesar que no soy experto en arte, pero tengo facilidades para el dibujo y la pintura; y especialmente me encanta la paisajística, retrato y la marina. La pintura europea es el conjunto más numeroso en el cual sobresalen muestras del renacimiento italiano y flamenco, el barroco español, las pinturas francesas del siglo XIX, y de forma particular, la pintura británica del XVIII.
Esto es todo por hoy, aprecié cada estilo de los creadores, una combinación de colores perfecta para mi gusto, un inmenso edificio y colección de arte universal que visitaría una vez más; tengo mucha curiosidad de saber lo que piensas del museo nacional de bellas artes de cuba.
