Weekend getaway – Visiting Fitzroy Fall and Camping at Pretty Beach (Part 1)

We have planned for this trip since last year but didn’t make it due to the pandamic hit to Sydney at that time. My husband booked a camping spot for December 2020 but then had to delay it for a year. After a few months hiding at home during lock down in NSW Australia and a busy month working on our home project, we felt extremely in need of fresh air, so we decided to spend last weekend away from the city, relaxing and connecting with nature. In my previous post, I had described how we camped next to the lake. This time, we wanted a completely different experience so we chose a place next to the beach. This fabulous campground with a lovely view out over Pretty Beach within Murramarang National Park, 3.5 hours south of Sydney is an ideal area for our weekend get away.
Before leaving, we did some research about a few places to stop. Even though the distance of about 200kms is not very long, since my husband is the only one driving, he would definitely get tired. So we decided to stop every hour for a break to let him rest and reenergize, as well as to visit other beautiful places along the way.
Our first stop is Fitzroy Falls. There are several ways to get to this village. We had nothing but time so we chose to drive through Kangaroo Valley to see the best scenery as someone recommended on the reviews. Fitzroy Falls is a small village located in New South Wales' Southern Highlands region with a population of just over 200, having the same name as the waterfall that descends more than 80 metres into Yarrunga Valley. We departed at 8am and got there around 9.50am, at that time, the parking area is quite empty. As we had the Annual National Park Pass, we didn't need to pay for the parking and no entrance fee applied.

Fitzroy Falls lookout is only 150 metres from the entrance. It took us a few minutes to get to see the waterfall from the nearest distance. If you enjoy walking, there are 2 routes: the West Rim Walk, 3.6km return, is most recommended for its most stunning views, and the East Rim Track, 6.7km return. Not so easy, both are moderated, grade 3. At the intersection, we decide to follow the West Rim Walk. The first part is an easy boardwalk. It follows the path of the creek and leads to an awesome lookout point where we can admire the beauty of this waterfall.

Following the West Rim Track for a short distance, we reached another fantastic lookout, Jersey Lookout. There are a few steep sections along the West Rim track.
The full West Rim Track terminates at the Renown Lookout from where you have the opportunity to take in some amazing views before heading back. In my opinion, it is worth visiting even though it can't be described as spectacular.

Following our visit to Kangaroo Valley, we stopped by Berry town centre for having lunch and taking a short tour around the town. I will write another post about these beautiful towns in my next post. As for this post, I just want to be respectful of nature and savor the fresh air.

Around 5pm, we finally got to Pretty Beach Campground. If you haven't known, in Australia, the sun stays up until 8pm during the summer. At that time, the campsite was packed and we were supposed to take the last spot. It took us a while to set up our tent and stuff. The campground is well-equipped and super clean which is above my expectations. We paid 34$ per night for the powered site but ended up not using any power. The unpowered site nightly rate is cheaper at 24$ which is a pretty good deal. I would be happy to rate this campground 9/10 due to its clean and well-equipped facilities with hot shower, laundry room, dish washing area, sheltered gas BBQ...

For the first time, I got the chance to approach quite close to the kangaroos. They also came to our tent at midnight to steal my rubbish bag ;). It was so cool to get to see them hanging around. On the 1st night, we were a bit scared when some of the kangaroos walked around our tent. We could even hear clearly the sound of them eating the grass.
The beach is a short walk away. It's so scenic and the water was very warm. They even set up some tables on the grass field where you can enjoy your breakfast and have the best view of the Pretty Beach. Totally worth any penny we paid for it and I don't mind to come back again in the future.

Hello Na @hknauy. Your trip is such a lovely excursion with Mother Nature, Fitzroy Falls is simply majestic and the sight of it alone took my breath away. Your close encounters with the kangaroos must have been a thrilling experience. Indeed, nothing beats the enjoyable vibes we get when we immerse ourselves in our natural surroundings. Epic travel story! 😊

Yeahhhh, that wasn't my first time seeing the kangaroos but it was the first time we were super close, they were just chilling and feeding on the lawn, not even scared of people around, soooo interesting! It was just awesome that we got the fresh air after nearly a year, at the beginning we booked another place which we have to drive through the rainforest but it got cancel due to maintenance so we got this spot nearly at the last minute and really enjoyed our time there! :D

Amazing! I'd surely feel the same way if I was in your place. Awesome experiences with nature never fail to offer us satisfaction, thrill, and happiness. Congrats for making it to the top feature of today's Travel Digest. Cheers! 😊

Roasted corn in the wild I haven't eaten it for a very, very long time and seen it beautiful and very tasty ;))

Hahaa, you know what, with salted butter or garlic butter on top as well! Craving now!!!!!!!

That's not a good recipe, because I had an even greater desire for it ... but it must be extremely tasty .. ;))

Uh bà tui đi bản gốc năm ngoái rồi, có dip tui quay lại

Thích quá Na ha. Cuối tuần của you đã thế. Cảnh đẹp quá chừng luôn.

Uh mà lâu lắm rồi mới đi dc 1 lần như vậy, vì lockdown bị nhốt trong nhà mấy tháng trời, nay được thả cửa thấy sướng dã man :P

It looks like you had a good time, fascinating pictures!

Thank you!!!! Yeah, we have great time connecting with nature and enjoy fresh air! It has been a long time since our last camping trip, this one is absolutely recharge our energy!

It's definitely more than just pretty beach! :D Looks stunning and the pictures are incredible, nice work. Even camp set up is so well organised :D:D Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for checking out my post! It took us only 10 minutes to put on the camp because all of the thing we bought are just so easy to set up. I have just gone through your post about one of the hike in Adelaide. All of your photos look awesome. We have planned to go visit Adelaide but haven't got the chance due to closing boarder. Definitely visit next year! :D

That's awesome, good to make things easier and convenient for sure! Less is more, anyways :D Thank you, I hope you get a chance to explore it here, there's lots to see. I haven't been to NSW either, a lot of plans got destroyed, I was suppose to see a lot in the last 2 years :/
Thanks for showing us a piece of it though, really amazing spot!

What a beautiful place, congratulations on your records, they were amazing!

Yeahhhhhh! I was thrilled by this record! That gave me a lots of motivation, and pressure as well!!! :P
Thank you so much, have a nice day!

Hoà mình giữa thiên nhiên thích quá c ơi. C chụp ảnh đẹp nữa 🥰

Hiii, cám ơn em, nhờ Hive mà ráng luyện tập kĩ năng chụp ảnh!!!

Hihi. E cũng vậy á. Nhờ vào đây chụp ảnh lên đỡ hẵn ra 😆

I've been down to Fitzroy Falls a few times in the last few years. That height is awesome. Thanks for the info on Pretty Beach, will definitely give it a go one time.

You are so right, that height is just breathtaking, even though on the day we came, the water is not that much but it's still look amazing. It's worth visiting.
Our booking at Pretty Beach came at the last minutes because the place we booked in advance a year ago was in maintenance, but we ended up so satisfy with that choice ;).

mấy con kangaroo này nhìn size vừa vừa dễ thương Chị Na ha, trước em đi sở thú cũng mấy con cỡ này nè, mà sao có nhiều chỗ thấy kangaroo nó đô ghê Chị

uh mấy con mẹ đẻ mấy lứa nhìn đô lắm Uyên, mà sợ nó quật nên ko dám lại gần chụp, mà đàn này nhìn size cũng nhỏ thiệt, có 1 con tối hôm đầu tiên chị đến nó vô ăn cắp bịch rác á, đô dã man, chồng chị đuổi nó đi nó đứng trừng mắt nhìn chằm chằm : )))

Thiệt thấy nhiều chỗ chụp gì mà cao to múi nào múi nấy cục cục sợ nó đấm cái xỉu ngang luôn chứ. Mà chỗ này chị Na đi thích ha, hoà mình vô môi trường sống của tụi nó luôn 🥰

It is a very beautiful place. Nature is so unique in its way to affect our well-being that it is always great to set some time off to recovery in this magic far out of the city place.
