If you plan for a New Zealand trip, 100% you should put Queenstown in the list. As New Zealand's adventure capital, Queenstown attracts more than three million visitors each year, renowned for a variety of outdoor activities and its vibrant nightlife with sophisticated nightclubs and lively pub tours that are always a big hit with visitors. There are some posts about Queenstown on @haveyoubeenhere that you should check out to see how beautiful it is.
In this post, I want to recommend a place which is less than an hour away from Queenstown - Glenorchy - It is one of the most peaceful place in New Zealand that I have visited - Located in the South Island region of Otago, Glenorchy is a small settlement at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu. The town just has around 400 residents, but has an impressive range of sights and activities, making it a good getaway from Queenstown.
There are many tramping trails near Glenorchy, making it a popular tourist spot. Among the activities available in Glenorchy are walking and trekking, fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, etc. Some local pub and café, as well as several small shops, serve mostly tourists but also residents of the town.
Get your drink!
There are a few choices for the cafe' and pub here, although they are not big, fancy shops, but they all set the outside table for the chill morning, with the view of the mountain which is the good vibes to enjoy the fresh air
Glenorchy Waterfront Reserve
Waterfront Reserve in Glenorchy is a small public park with stunning views of Glenorchy's waterfront. The most impressive thing that I always remember is the trees with their roots under that blue-green water. The small red shed, which appears in many images of Glenorchy, is also located here at the waterfront reserve. Definitely a favorite spot for photographers, an ideal place for a picnic, BBQ day out. Properly, this is not the majestic landscape, Glenorchy is all about slowing down and connecting with nature
Glenorchy Lagoon Scenic Walkway
This is a one-hour walk on level, well-groomed paths and boardwalks which is achievable for anyone who can walk. It passes mountains, lakes, marshes, lagoons, and meadows, which all look stunning in the cool, early morning sun. The view across the lake and snowy mountains are breathtaking. This is a must-do activity in Glenorchy on a day trip.
There are more activities in Glenorchy but we could only just spend a morning here because some of us had to return to work in the afternoon. As such, we head back to Queenstown. Below are just some bonus pictures that I took when I was in Queenstown, hope you guys enjoy the post. Thanks for your time!
