A boat trip on Nho Quế River

With its wild beauty of mountains, rivers and streams, Ha Giang has recently become a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists. That's the reason I chose Ha Giang as my destination on my last trip in the North of Vietnam before flying to Australia. Normally, I would choose to backpack by motorbike with a companion, but on that trip, because we both didn't have much time, my friend chose to book the tour from a start-up travel agency called Phớn Toọc tourist and it was such a great experience that if any of my friends want to go to Ha Giang, I will not hesitate to recommend them that travel agency. The tour guide of my group that day was a 19-year-old Hmong boy who had just graduated from high school. Young and energetic, he has a great love of his native land. By telling us many fascinating stories about the local area, he made our 4 days 3 nights trip even more interesting.
There are many beautiful scenes and interesting things to discover in Ha Giang, but in this post, I'd like to highlight the enchanting beauty of Nho Que River, a gorgeous river that winds gently around the foot of a blue mountain. Originating in the mountains of Nghiem Son - Yunnan (China) with an altitude of 1500m, flowing in the direction of Northwest - Southeast, Nho Que River has a poetic and mysterious beauty like a mysterious blue threads. Virtually hidden among the wild and dangerous Northeast mountains. With extremely rugged terrain, Nho Que river valley is considered one of the deepest canyons in Southeast Asia. Previously, Nho Que River was only considered a place for fishing purposes of Ha Giang people. This is also the place to supply domestic water for the ethnic people here, an important source of water for most of the terraced fields of the people living around this area. At the time I came to visit more than 2 years ago, Nho Que was well known by tourists all over the country but not yet developed much in terms of tourism. The car took us to the area of Ma Pi Leng pass, then drove a difficult distance to the walkable area down the Nho Que river to prepare for a scenic boat trip. There are 2 wharfs, one is in Ta Lang village, Pai Lung, another is in Xin Cai commune area, on the other side of Ma Pi Leng pass towards Meo Vac. The car dropped us at the Xin Cai wharf and it took us about 45 minutes to walk down to the riverbank with some quite slippery sections. The road is difficult, almost all members of my group were very tired. But the closer we got to the riverbank, the more beautiful the scenery appears with the characteristic turquoise river.

Most of the boats here are family-owned and operated. Our boat driver on that day was a young and friendly guy. Visiting Nho Que River by boat brought us a completely different experience than watching it from above. Sitting on the boat and watching the cliffs stand up to the blue sky, feel the cool atmosphere and the transformation of the natural scenes, that cool experience, I will never forget. The downhill road was hard to go, making everyone in our group quite tired, but the moment we were immersed in nature and the beautiful beauty of the river along with the cool air, all fatigue seemed to disappear.
Tu San Canyon is one of the features not to be missed when visiting Nho Que River. To take a boat trip on Nho Que river you can also choose to take a motorboat or kayak. However, to go through Tu San Canyon, you should take a motorboat.

We finished the sightseeing tour by boat at another wharf in Ta Lang village, Pai Lung. After taking a break to have a snack and buy some local products here, all of us agreed not to walk uphill, but rent motorbikes from local people. The way up is very winding and steep, requiring the driver to be very steady on the handlebars. I sat in the back and was nervous as if I could slip out of the saddle at any time. But at the moment standing on the top of the slope and looking down, the beautiful scenery made all of the fears disappear.

Nho Que River is an attractive tourist destination that you should spend time experiencing when coming to Ha Giang. Sitting on the boat to feel the cool atmosphere or standing from above to watch the green river are all really interesting experiences.

I enjoyed reading your post and seeing the colorful photos. North Vietnam looks so interesting. Ten years ago I visited south Vietnam and had such an interesting time. I traveled down through the Mekong Delta with a group of surgeons who go there regularly to teach at the Can Tho university. I volunteered to teach art to 165 children in a shelter in Ho Chi Minh City, but also found time to visit Hue, and then a trip to Angkor in Cambodia. I've always had a desire to return again to visit northern Vietnam, Halong Bay, Sapa, and arounds those mountain areas with the beautiful terraced rice fields. Such a beautiful and interesting country.

Wwow, 10 years ago, I believe you"ll see a lots differences in Viet Nam nowadays compare to what it was 10 years ago. Our country have been developing super fast. In my opinion, although I was born and raised in the South of Viet Nam, but the scenery in the North is what I am really in love with. You have exactly describe the unique of the North with mountains and terrace rice fields. Thank you so much for reading my whole post and leave a sweet comment. Really appreciate!!! Thank you so much for reading my blog and leave a comment! Really appreciate!

Non núi nước ta cũng đẹp đâu thua kém gì New Na hì. nghe Hà Giang đẹp lắm, mà L chưa đến đấy bao giờ.

Ôi đợt đi HG đó tui nói với bạn tui câu y chang luôn Loan. Tui bảo ở NZ có đẹp mấy cũng chưa bao giờ thấy dc cảnh như vậy, bởi vậy du lịch VN vài năm tới nếu được khai thác lắm chắc đắt giá lắm! Tui là có tình yêu vô bờ bến với du lịch VN luôn ;D

@Whynotcamp rủ đi Ha Giang tháng sau đây. Mà vẫn do dự, tính đi QB vài ngày.

That looks amazing! đi xe máy lên đây chắc phê lắm 🤣

Trời quơi bao phê luôn! Mà khó đi cực kì, lúc đi thuyền xong là chị đi xe máy do mấy người địa phương chở lên, cảm giác tuột khỏi yên xe bất cứ khi nào luôn! Tay lái phải vững dữ lắm vì xuống dốc thẳng đứng cũng khó nữa

Hopefully I can do something similar in the future.
I am planning to buy a sailboat.
Greetings from Hungary.

Ohhhhh, buying a sailboat is one of my dream as well, but maybe in the next 5 years! I wish you can soon get to that target!

My financial target is around $1000 USD and $1500 USD.
Someone on YouTube wrote three months ago that he bought a 17 feet Stortris for $1000 USD.

Thank you for the support. I give you some !PIZZA.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings from Hungary.

Ohhh that's lovely! Thank you, dear! :D

Cảnh đẹp quá chị Na ơi 🥰

Lên lịch đi Hà Giang gấp Uyên ôi! Book tour đi nhé :P

😍 chắc chắn luôn chị Na ơi

The view there looks terrifying but absolutely beautiful as well. It really shows how small we humans are compared to the towering beauty mother earth has provided us with. Would love to visit there.

The road to get there was actually terrified! Our groups have some old ladies and it was so hard for them to get to the riverbank at the beginning! But in the end, it's worth the efforts! :D. I highly recommend Ha Giang in your travel list if you plan to visit Viet Nam in the near future! Currently it's still haven't not developed much in term if tourism, but I believe it will become more popular in the future!

Wow, that must have been scary! Yes, in the future I do hope I could have the means to travel there, it looks so beautiful and serene!

Happy that you enjoy it! Thank you so much for visiting :D

Nature is trying beautiful. I am sure you must have had a nice trip. What camera did you use in taking these shot? They are beautiful

That's so kind of you. The photos were taken by Nikon Z6 and I did edit the colour of the original one!

Solo ver la foto transmite mucha paz y tranquilidad.

It's beautiful, I would be so nervous if I will be in your position but I truly agree and believe that drivers won't risk his or your life if they did not master handling this type of road.

Yeahhh, that's totally correct. The driver is professional on that road, if that was my friend who was handling the motorbike, I would consider walking up by myself :D

Haha that is the safest way is just to walk if you can. 😊
