One of the things that I really like about Bangkok is how nice their parks are. I guess because the city is so noisy and busy that there's a big need for a place where there's just trees and peace and fountains. I have been to Lumphini Park last year and I really enjoyed it.
This time, I went to a park just 2 BTS stations away from the hotel we were staying at. It's called "Benchakitti park", sometimes spelled as "Benjakitti" and apparently this park is to honor Queen Sirikit. It's located close to Asoke BTS station in Sukhumvit.
Like most parks, this was free of charge. Looking at Google maps, this park is really huge. I came in from the entrance near the Asoke BTS station, so this was what I saw. I just turned left and went on my way.
Today I just realized that there is another park specifically the forest park if you just walk straight from here. But even so, I wouldn't be able to have enough time before sunset since I went here at 5-ish pm.
From the entrance, you can already see how big this park is. I appreciate the wide space and the big lake in the middle instead of just spamming you with trees immediately.
Around the lake is one big oval, perfect for running, walking, and biking.
As I walked along, I saw this mini amphitheater. Such a nice place to have mini events/meetups and stuff.
There is also another pathway that leads to a mini forest I guess we can call that (since there is a big forest park beside it lol).
I think this was supposed to be a skate area but I'm not sure why it's not being used. It looks like they removed those things on the ramp on purpose so nobody would use it lol.
Man, there's always water monitor in parks in Bangkok lol. I didn't see one here tho.
This park is so pretty tho like damn. I think this is the prettiest park I've been to, next is Chatuchak Park. The buildings just turn gold when the sunset hits and it just looks incredible.
Such a nice place to read a book at. I don't know about mosquitos tho.
The building on the right is a big convention center which is also inside the park.
I realized the sunset here will be nice because of the wide area without any trees and the water just gives a nice reflection. So there's no buildings or anything that blocks your view from that nice sunset. :D
How romantic to be here with that view. :D
Must be nice to be here and have picnic after school/work. Even if there are monitor lizards randomly ascending from the water they wouldn't hurt you or anything so it's fine. XD
There's also a dog park at the right side from the entrance of the park.
I was expecting to have like a dog playground with obstacles but they were just plants and a tiny lake inside. It was a bit weird but I don't know maybe I just didn't walk further to find out more.
This park was really worth the visit and I can see myself visiting again if I had the chance to. You saw those pictures and how gorgeous the sunset was and it was the best sunset in Bangkok I've seen so far. Now I'm curious to see how it looks like being at a rooftop of 80 story building but that is an experience for the next time we go back in Bangkok.
Benchakitti park is definitely the prettiest park I've been to so far.
I need to steal one of those 'beware of monitor lizard' signs to stick in the park back home in Pontefract, UK when I go back at Xmas. They'd have a heart attack lol.
Can't believe you didn't see any in the park though.
We had one in the garden here last week, got trapped in some netting so I had to cut it out, but my photo was rubbish, sadly!
Honestly, it's a baby about 80cm long somewhere under there!
lol that would be a nice prank 🤣 they're probably gonna be thinking monitor lizards are small, hope they know it can get fucking big. Yeah I don't know, maybe they hang out somewhere else or just not at that time.
I thought the tire was the lizard you were talking about so I was like "uhmm that looks like a fucking python" hahaha
The park looks really amazing, it has a big space, I love the nature aspect of it too and for the fact that it's free, that wow me again.
Indeed :D
Wow, you have incredible photos! Are you taking them on a professional camera? It seems as if they are from the future. The park is very beautiful, I also wanted to visit there one day!
Yes I'm using Fuji X-T4 camera ;D
I would run if I saw a monitor lizard. Hahaha! The invasion of little dinosaurs.
It's nice to find a place of tranquility in such a huge city. Even though the skyscrapers in the back keep reminding you where you are 🙂 Those sunset photos are cool!
Have a lovely day!
True that, it was still amazing to be there even though in some areas I can hear the cars passing by. Have a nice day as well! :D
That is a nice looking and well maintained park. There are a lot of things to do, and they have wonderful view of the water and the buildings. They even have a fountain. It would be nice to have a picnic there with the family. I haven't been to Rizal park in a long time. I've heard that it was improved and renovated, but I hope it can be as nice as this, or even better.
Very well-maintained. I guess cos it's a park associated with the Queen so they have to make it look the best? haha. Picnics here are gonna be so good, they look like they have nice lights as well.
Rizal park in Manila? Yeah me neither, last visit was maybe 10 years ago and I don't know how it looks like now. :D But i remember it was a hassle to get there lol
Wow, this park really is wonderful 🙂 The nature is beautiful 🙂 I love these sunset photos. Thanks for sharing 🙂
