This late summer, we went for a hike near Bad Dürkheim in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. It is a famous wine growing area and for me one of the most beautiful spots in germany.
Walking next to grapevine and wild forest makes this area perfect for a trip, especially in summer and autumn.
During the time of our hike, the chestnuts were ripe. Most of them were already picked up, but we still found enough to have some for dinner that evening.
After 3 hours of walking we went to the "wachtenbug", which is the ruin of a local castle where you can also get drinks and food. Typically for Pfalz is "Rieslingschorle", which is a white wine from a local grape variety with sparkling water, served traditionally in this area in a "Dubbeglas".
We also had to get a glas of "Neuer Wein" (New Wine). This drink is only available for one month in autumn, when the wine farmers harvest the grapes. It's grape juice, but slightly fermented, so it contains a small amount of alcohol. I think it is delicious and if you have the chance you should try it.
At this spot we had our drink, it was a nice day with a great view. It was on a saturday, but still there were very few people.
A great place for a day trip. I can't wait to repeat this route, especially in autumn. Thanks for checking out my post, I hope you enjoyed it.
