Up and down the Douro River . Porto.

in Worldmappin2 months ago

So a liquid lunch made me feel like splashing out, not literally, but figuratively by parting with 15 euros on a small pleasure boat, a Rabelo Boat (old wine transport ship) up and down the Douro riverbank in Porto.

Lunchtime beer makes me either quite sleepy or quite adventurous.

At this moment in time it made me quite adventurous so to the water I took. Wearing the fucking silly pirate hat made of cardboard that Captain Pugwash was handing out.

Sticking my elbows out in the queue made sure I got right at the front, (if I was female I would kinda like be one of those "soccer moms") I wasn't parting with my hard earned cash to sit at the back with the great unwashed and be photo bombed by those god damn instasnappergram types.

We were not alone it was like an armada , it was good to be on the corsair leading the others into battle

I lie, it was a gentle sail up and down a short stretch of water and lasted an hour, there was a stilted commentary sometimes in Portuguese sometimes in English, why was I the only one on the boat who after every interesting "fact" gave a rousing "oohaaarrrgh" in my best pirate voice?
I couldn't resist it.

I blame the lunchtime beer.

I thought it was a floating visit to six bridges, but I wasn't counting, even to this day I don't remember six bridges. Perhaps I got on the wrong boat.

It was interesting, I learn't that Porto is on one side of the river and another place Vila Nova de Gaia on the other side,

I loved the worn out colours of the closely cobbled together buildings in Gaia.

Cheers @viviehardika thanks for dropping in and your kind words, I am glad you enjoyed my efforts x

Love Porto..m gorgeous place. Loved our drive up the n222 along the valley, world class. Would go back in a heartbeat

Yes Porto has some great areas, preferred it to Lisbon

Me too. We had a friend who grew up there show us around and we stayed with him in Gaia so it was quite a personal experience.

I didn't realise til I went that Gaia is a seperate community to Porto city, was very quaint and photogenic

The mix of adventure and irony in your experience makes me smile, I imagine the scene with that pirate hat!🙃

lol. I looked the part

Man of steel era with bridge building superb, water views different vantage point to enjoy old town from waterways.

Cobble streets with worn appearance of what once must have been the talk of town in bright painted buildings, feel the vibe from Captain Pugwash.

@tipu curate

Captain pug wash at your service m’lady lol

All aboard....

...the skylark

I would have tried to get to (stay at) the front too hahaha 🤣
Beautiful views along the river. Lovely captures.
Have a great day 👋🏻

Cheers @littlebee4 , you too

Cheers @grindle 😎
I arrived back home last night… I need a rest hahaha 🤣

LOL sleep tight

Thanks 😉

Great view from the river giving another perspective. Was this a recent trip?

I did a boat trip further along the river when I took the scenic train ride out along the Douro River, it was beautiful. Still need to be write about that, been really lazy recently

Hello, no this was from July last year …… just playing catchup. All my travel escapades tend to end up being late on here! I bet the train ride was good, didn't even know about that

The train ride was a stunning day out, just google Portugal most scenic train ride. Let me try to get my post out (she says 😅)

LOL twiddles thumbs waits patiently

Please don't forget to pin your post in the worldmappin map. 🤗

Ah bugger my bad

Happens ;) ☀️

Oh, so that is what we missed in Porto. It rained so much when we were there that it flooded the city and we literally ran away from it 😅

Oops! Hope you return one day

I think you made proper use of resources hahaha... money better spent. The views from the boat are beautiful. Even the weathered buildings have charm.
The iron jumble... I can't figure out what part of the bridge it is. Very strange.

The iron jumble lol, was taken as the boat passed under it

ooohargggh

😂 I knew the scream was coming at any moment....

What a nice river I like the photo you took to the houses and the bridge✌️✌️
