PORTO
The church took thirty years to build and was completed in 1739 is named in honour of the 7th C Visigoth bishop of Toledo; Ildephonsus.
The façade has over 11,000 classic blue and white azulejos, which were added in 1932, depicting the life of Saint Ildefonso and stories from the bible.
There is very little else to say about this church so here are some stained glass windows, take a look and then we shall bugger off elsewhere.
The alcoholic drink of port, is a product of the Douro Valley in Portugal, it is normally sweet and red and is a protected product under eu legislation, meaning that fortified wine produced elsewhere in the world are legally unable to call it "port"
The Burmester Wine Cellars are located in Gaia, just over the bridge from Porto overlooking the river Douro.
The business, actually started in London in 1750, when Henry Burmester joined John Nash to establish the company Burmester, Nash & Co. and they began exporting Port wine from Gaia to Europe.
I am always sceptical of these tourist trap places, the barrels looked good but are they authentic, I was assured they were.
Only did the cheap tour (and that was a waste of a handful of euros), so just two samples, no bread no cheese. and no drinkee the samples, the consensus of opinion was "fucking hell thats horrible". I knew from past experience that port is an acquired taste, not for me no thank you very much. I don't actually know anyone who drinks this stuff.
Cheap stuff
Expensive stuff.
and... How much? You are taking the piss.

The azulejos on the church are always so pretty, as well as the stained glass windows. For me better they are nicer than any glass of wine 😁 (it's a headache trigger for me although I had a glass of it in Porto. It indeed was quite sweet)
I have yet to meet anyone who actually likes port LOL. far too sweet and heavy.
Europe shared what they learned over the ages from Ming dynasty Chinese or Dutch Delft, Portuguese placed their flare to the design using the blue and white in tiles, very appealing and good to see still a lot hanging on.
Port most definitely for those who enjoy sweet, instant headache looking at that last bottles price.
!BEER
I have seen dutch deflt very similar, and of course english types too "borrowed" from the Chinese.
No way on this earth I would pay that price for a bottle of decent booze let alone port wine yeuch!
English knew how to observe then perfect, sometimes wonder where that spirit has gone!
Some things come overrated with the name, sure to find good stock or similar in your travels, I would never pay that price either.
yes we are but a small insignificant island where in some quarters they still think we have an empire LOL
Perhaps the right attitude making it bigger, better than anywhere else. As for Port I think legal rights attached to the name itself, almost a warning not to delve too deep into the glass....
I get it, protecting regional dishes, think it is a good idea

Don't like Porto? It's only 125 euros! 😵
(names sell, that drink is not eliminated in the pee, it goes straight into the ancestral bloodstream hahaha).
125 euros, sheesh, I would want dinner for two included in that price as well!
