Not too much passed since we first jumped into a boat and off we've gone to explore Danube Delta for an entire day, and something from our souls still left there. On the boat. Together with all the moods and feelings we've got in the 12 hours spent crossing countless rivers, lakes, and islands.
And we couldn't really think that our journey on Dobrogea has come to an end before we enjoy the experience one more time.
This time, the place that conquered our hearts and called us for one more touch with the waves of Danube Delta, is an island called Gura Portiței.
Now, you might ask: ok cool, what's so interesting in another island discovered on the Danube Delta river?
Well, Gura Portiței is not just a simple island like those we visited before - even though each one of them had something special and unique in Europe; Gura Portiței is not less impressive because it's also unique in Europe, talking about the single place where the The Black Sea and Danube Delta are meeting.
Danube Delta represents the 2nd largest delta river from Europe (right after Volga), which travels the realms of Romania for 1788 km starting with the springs from Padurea Neagra Mountains and coming to an end at the meet with The Black Sea represented by Gura Portiței Island.
3446 km² of tiny lakes, rivers, islands, canals and swamps left behind, and a mix of all of them in a single place which is nowadays a resort for those who can't decide whether they love the sea or the mountains more, having both the sea and the delta river in front of their tiny house located on the beach.
Gura Portiței Island represents a place that has been recently turned into a resort for the tourists but which also kept its wilderness part, while we remember Danube Delta as being the home for more tha 3450 species of animals and 1700 species of plants, thus talking about a beach where you won't see only gulls but also pelicans, herons, coot, egrets, cormorants and many more!
The air here felt different. Not only that we became different than how we were before but also because we've been blessed to travel to some of the wildest and most forgotten lands of Dobrogea, Romania.
We are talking about a hidden island from Jurilovca that has openings to Danube Delta, The Black Sea, and Golovița Lake, where no breeze or wave that will touch your body, won't come from the same place and won't make you feel as being the same person.
If you decide to visit the place during the hot seasons of the summer, you might have the unpleasant surprise to find all the tiny blue houses occupied already by other tourists who often come with their kids on this place, but if you really seek for the deafening silence of nature and to spend some time away from the lethal routines, starting with the end of September might be a good plan.
As I previously mentioned, the island has become more of a resort in the last couple of years, nowadays talking also about a huge restaurant right on the golden sand, where you can eat some of the tastiest traditional food of Romania and where the hosts are committed to transforming every tourist's experience on the island, into one of the most beautiful memories.
Wheather you are looking for a chill place to spend the holiday or a fun location for you and your friends, you can always pick up Gura Portiței Island as the destination to your needs, as it offers plenty of facilities starting with the fun activities until the simple options for a relaxing stay, earning a special place into the heart of every visitor with the wonderful natural spectacle offered by the waves.
I never had that kind of 'to-do list before you die' that I used to hear about when I was a kid, but one thing that remained deeply in my head making me really want to accomplish it, was to be in two different places at the same time, and guess what?
Gura Portiței Island is the right place for that and made me experience simultaneously both the waves of the sea and those created by the delta river while getting lost in the fauna and flora offered by the wildest part of Romania and Europe - Danube Delta.
The two different worlds which collided into a spectacular and unique place for the earth was first discovered in 1736 when there was just a single house on the beach owned by a fisherman, which turned into one of the most beautiful resorts out there, starting with 1998 when the construction work has begun and the entire location was transformed into a genuine oasis of peace, silence and relaxation.
The tiny strip of sand that a while ago was recognized as a forgotten fishing village, is also the location where both the tourists and the common fishermen we see all around, can live together without causing any discomfort to each other.
Even from the first seconds when the engine of the boat we came with has turned off, we've been surprised with both types of the people where you could see only smiles on their faces being the single sign we needed that we finally reached a place for everybody and where no matter what your passions and occupations are, everybody that reaches Gura Portiței Island will find its peace and most craved holiday in the same place.
Another thing which plays a major role in the life of a nature lover is not being able to deal with toxic people who always leave garbage behind them. And which also made me want to stay away from the usual beaches and sea resorts Romania has. But I've been pleasantly surprised to figure out that most of the majestic place that is being stretched on 4 km length, has remained untouched and it's strictly protected by law while it's still a sightseeing attraction.
Over here you'll also get to too the first Edenic village from Romania that was classified with a three stars category after ’90s, which comes with various cabins, cottages, and camping sites for the tourists, counting up to 150 beds dedicated to those who want to disconnect from the tumultuous city life.
In order to reach the different type of beach that Romania is proud to offer for the tourists and not only, you will need to take a boat ride from Jurilovca Departures as it follows:
- Departures Jurilovca - Portita: 9 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM;
- Departures Portita - Jurilovca: 12 PM, 4 PM, 8 PM.
A round trip costs around 60 RON (12,32 EUR) per person and it takes only 15 minutes to reach the most withdrawn and quiet tourist destination on the Romanian seaside where the golden sand beaches and crystal clear water will help on building some memories that will last for a lifetime.

SEE YOU IN THE NEXT TRIP! 🗾

Thank you so much!!! 🥺❤️
I remember seeing those big stones near a dock in Japan. I have only seen them on animes.
They are called 'stabilopozi' and they have been created by Romanians in 1963 to protect the constructions against the waves of the sea. Being a Romanian invention is also the reason they don't have any translation into English or any other language. Nowadays they can be found most likely everywhere and it's really sad that too little people know who created them and their purpose.
