You guys must be wondering, what mystery lake I am talking about. It belongs to the mountains of Uttarakhand, India. So, me being a mountain and nature admirer, plans a trek or two at least every year to the Himalayas. I just love being with nature for a few days, far from traffic, far from pollution, far from work, far from technology, and especially way far from crowds and noise.
Hence, me with a friend organized a trek during our college days inviting people from our circle of friends and family to join us to walk and live in purity (nature) for a few days away from any kind of hustles, pollution, and networks, and just enjoy being together talking and spending quality time with nature and ourselves.
And the trek we chose for that is called Roopkund Trek. So this is a high-altitude trek of approx. 5000m in height, which leads us to the mysterious lake known as Roopkund. It is said that thousands of years ago, hundreds of pilgrims and animals there fell to their deaths due to unnatural calamities or hailstorms and the lake is still immersed in the remains of hundreds of skeletons and bones. Hence, it is also known as the Skeleton lake attracting a lot of tourism, which is only visible once the snow melts.
Besides this, the trek is filled with endless breathtaking views of beautiful green meadows, mountains, flowers, snow, everything.
The trek starts from a small village in Lohajung, in Uttarakhand which we reached by bus and was our base campsite. Where we lightened our bags, got acclimatized, and had our last bath till we got back from the trek 😝 The place was very quiet and peaceful, we were already enjoying our evening there. And the best part, we started losing the networks in our phones 🤪
The next morning, we got ready with all our trekking bags and gears and started heading towards our first campsite 'Didna' with the refreshments in our hands and a lot and lot of excitement within. On our first trekking day, we walked on the deep forest silent trails where we could hear the clear sounds of birds cooing, the rustle of the dry leaves, the flowing water etc.
