in Worldmappin3 years ago (edited)

The renowned educational attraction is recognized for its outstanding aquarium, planetarium, arboretum, together with fairly large art and sculpture collections in addition to its animals. Natura Artis Magistra stands for "Nature is the teacher of Art and Science" according to Latin descriptions, best known as Artis.

Currently, this zoo holds over 700 different sorts of animals, from the wildest, largest to the smallest species, the majority of which are endangered. Artis also features a botanical garden, atheneum, and much more in connection to wildlife and vegetation.

I am sharing with you my recent visits to Artis Zoo full of fun-filled learning experiences observing the beauty of this Royal City Centre Zoo in Amsterdam.

Artis Zoo is located in the heart of Plantage Kerklaan. The fastest transportation to get there is by taking a tram from Amsterdam Station, it would take 12 minutes ride and the tram will stop at Amsterdam Artis. Go for a 2 minutes walk and there you can reach the location. We use google maps for easy access.

Explore the Wildlife in Artis

Hence this is one of the tourist attractions in Amsterdam that is highly recommended by many. It is a site where you can go outdoors, engage yourself in nature, although not in their natural environment, however, if you are curious and have a toddler, letting your children have fun will always be a place worth returning to.

Well, I am not going to overwhelm you with a list of numerous animals I encountered in Artis. But expect to see from the tallest creatures to the tiniest insects, there are simply a lot of them, really a looottt!!

Take time to stroll around for hours and find enchanting moments in between.

Similarly, the animal habitats here are free of bars and cages whenever possible. It is amazing to see them move, eat, climb, play. Just WOW!!

Personal Favourites!

Who would have thought that you will be able to see one of the wildest animals in Artis?

I truly adore expanding my comprehension especially in learning something new and intriguing. Of course, the real encounters is far different from the theory itself.

Jaguar

Well, let's start with the Jaguar. Indeed cute, sweet, yet dangerous at the same time. It's thrilling to find out that a jaguar's bite is the most violent of the great cats, even stronger than tigers or lions.

Giraffe

Aside from being the world's tallest land-living creature, giraffes are taller than 3 adult individuals. Famous for being plant-eater and their favorite food is grabbing the acacia tree, how amazing that giraffes can consume 45kg of leaves daily!!

Lions

I was surprised to see tons of adult lions in Artis and it is truly awe-striking!! Super fascinating to imagine that an adult lion's roar can be heard up to 8 kilometers afar!!!

Gorilla

The main highlight is the Gorilla and by far I think the most favorite of everyone here. Gorillas are one of the most intelligent animals on the planet, considering that 99% of human DNA is shared, which implies that they have distinct personalities.

The gorillas are incredibly huge in real and I can't believe it in my eyes, we saw 3 gorillas in Artis, a Family!! However, we only capture one shot.

I suppose discovering playgrounds is also a lot of fun for children. I adore seeing youngsters play, anywhere and at any time. When walking through Artis, the children can engage in a range of activities. Not a large playground, but a variety of nice amusements around.

Artis also has a few restaurants, souvenir shops, and snack bars.

Tons of children around and it is a perfect educational activity for the young and the old.

I genuinely believe that the earlier you expose your child in advance, the sooner they develop information or ideas based on what they learn and understand the importance of something, plus appreciating how wonderful this world is.

The Good News!

Artis offers different kinds of subscriptions to your likings. If you wish to visit as often as possible. You can get discounts and save less by becoming a member and take advantage of their programs and activities. Ideal for students, children, families and for individuals who are fond of animals!

You can find more updates and information in their website at Artis.nl

The best season to visit the Artis is in the summer. If you fancy being in the crowd, then going on weekends is the busiest. In addition, a lot of families go there due to school holidays especially if you want to expose your child to something useful yet intellectual activities.

If you desire a quiet exposure, definitely weekdays are ideal for you. This would be best for social media influencers, writers, journalists, photographers or bloggers. Also, if you want to capture and snap images, then the sooner the better and more convenient.

Is it worth coming back? Absolutely!! It would be delighted to see their aquarium and planetarium on my next visit! 😊

Have you been to Artis? Let me know your views and experience, any suggestions are welcome. Will be glad to hear from you!! ❤️

Sort:

This zoo seems to offer animals large spaces. This is good. On our side, we personally reuse to visit zoo and animal parks where animals are forced to live in tiny spaces.

There is a(n apparently) similar zoo in Belgium that I visited with my family a while ago. They have a very nice program to help endangered species, heal hurt animals and reintroduce them to the wild whenever possible. I am wondering whether there is something like t hat at the Artis zoo? Do you know?

Yes in Artis they do the same, it is pretty large actually. I heard that the belgium zoo is also a great spot to visit and I would probably come visit there in antwerp zoo someday. ;))

It is so long I didn't go to Antwerp (more than 15 years!). From my fainted memories, animals were living in quite compact areas, which is not super great in my opinon. I may however be wrong and things may have changed since then. I am sure you will let me know if you have a chance to visit it soon.

Cheers!
