He recibido muchos comentarios por mi publicación anterior en la comunidad @haveyoubeenhere. Siempre me ha gustado viajar, pero en tiempos de pandemia tales gustos han tenido que trocar en una nueva pasión: enseñar los rincones más lindos de la ciudad donde resido: Maracay, Estado Aragua en Venezuela.
I have received many comments for my previous post in the @haveyoubeenhere community. I have always liked to travel, but in times of pandemic such tastes have had to change into a new passion: to show the most beautiful corners of the city where I live: Maracay, Aragua State in Venezuela.
Llegará a una avenida donde se encuentra el emplazamiento y nos recibe un cartel azul indicativo, existen dos maneras de estacionar: un aparcamiento detrás del coso taurino o los puestos de estacionamiento en las proximidades de la edificación. En el primer sitio tendrá que pagar una tarifa mínima por hora y en los otros lugares es gratis porque la ciudad no cobra por estacionar. En cualquier caso, el movimiento de gente ha disminuido muchísimo en los alrededores por dos razones: las fiestas taurinas han disminuido y la crisis de la pandemia ha hecho a las personas vivir encerradas en sus casas.

La plaza de toros "Maestranza César Girón" fue el segundo edificio de tal uso construido en Venezuela. Para entender la historia taurina del país existen registros muchos más antiguos que la propia Maestranza, como el Nuevo Circo de Caracas, primera plaza de lidia en Venezuela, construida con dineros públicos en 1.915 por el General Juan Vicente Gómez. Ante el éxito que tuvo el movimiento de lidia en la capital y la mudanza de Gómez a Maracay, se decidió la construcción de la plaza de toros, que luego llevará el nombre del famoso matador nacido en la ciudad.
The "Maestranza César Girón" bullring was the second building of such use built in Venezuela. To understand the bullfighting history of the country, there are records much older than the Maestranza itself, such as the Nuevo Circo de Caracas, the first bullfighting arena in Venezuela, built with public funds in 1915 by General Juan Vicente Gómez. Hoy día la han pintado de rosado y mi esposa me comentó que tiene más de dos años de ese color. Eso dice del tiempo que tenía yo sin ir por esos lados de la ciudad. No sé mucho de arquitectura, pero me he documentado un poco y algunos artículos refieren que la plaza es una réplica de la Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla, una ciudad que visité en 2.012 y de la que tengo bonitos recuerdos.
Imagine: the last time I saw the plaza in person, I was working in a nearby building and it was yellow ochre. Today it has been painted pink and my wife told me that it has been that color for more than two years. That says something about the time I hadn't been in those parts of the city. I don't know much about architecture, but I have documented myself a little and some articles refer that the square is a replica of the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla, a city I visited in 2.012 and of which I have beautiful memories.
Otros de los resultados de mi investigación sobre la plaza es que fue construida con una arquitectura de estilo llamado neomudéjar; no puedo profundizar al respecto puesto que no soy experto. Lo que si puedo decir es que se ve una influencia árabe en los pórticos de las entradas a la plaza y es que haber viajado a Andalucía, en España, me dejó el sabor del marcado acento de los moros en la construcción de muchas estructuras. La Maestranza me hizo recordar aquello.
Another of the results of my research on the plaza is that it was built with a style of architecture called neomudejar; I cannot go into this in depth since I am not an expert. What I can say is that there is an Arab influence in the porticoes of the entrances to the plaza and having traveled to Andalusia, Spain, left me with a taste of the strong Moorish accent in the construction of many structures. The Maestranza reminded me of that.

As they have done with most of the old buildings in the city, the square has also received the hand of the state to refurbish its spaces, whatever the time it takes for its restoration, you can still observe the old color of the square attached to the internal spaces, as in the graphic below, where the yellow ocher color can still be seen in some of the spaces that have not been finished.

There is a movement in bullfighting called "La Girondina", I do not know if the figure in bullfighting was created by Cesar Giron himself, but I can tell you that the monument in the photo below is called that way. Mi oportunidad de observar una tarde de lidia llegó después de adulto cuando vivía en San Cristóbal, ciudad andina del estado Táchira, en Venezuela, donde lidiaban toros en tiempos de feria; ésta actividad se ha venido a menos por la situación económica y por un fuerte movimiento antitaurino que ha logrado convertir a Venezuela en un país donde ya casi no existe la lidia.
I grew up in a family of Andean origin and the fiesta brava is one of the main attractions of those regions. And although I was born in Caracas, I never went to a festejo at the Nuevo Circo. My opportunity to observe an afternoon of bullfighting came later as an adult when I lived in San Cristobal, an Andean city in the state of Tachira, Venezuela, where bullfighting used to take place during fairs; this activity has been reduced due to the economic situation and a strong anti-bullfighting movement that has turned Venezuela into a country where bullfighting is almost non-existent.

I sat on one of the benches to observe the very few people that on Sunday mornings pass by. No tengo el conocimiento de cuando fue la última vez que se utilizó la plaza de toros. Al ser declarada patrimonio arquitectónico de la nación, como monumento histórico nacional, se ha ganado su conservación de por vida y la verdad creo que fue una decisión acertada. El coso taurino en sí es pequeño, sólo puede albergar 7.000 personas, pero no ví ningún aviso externo que indicara si se puede visitar internamente. Sería una lástima porque tal lugar está perfecto para montar un museo y se podría sostener cobrando por visita para obtener fondos en su mantenimiento.
I have no knowledge of when the bullring was last used. Being declared an architectural heritage of the nation, as a national historical monument, it has earned its preservation for life and the truth is that I think it was a wise decision. The bullring itself is small, it can only hold 7,000 people, but I did not see any external notice indicating if it can be visited internally. It would be a pity because such a place is perfect to set up a museum and could be sustained by charging per visit to obtain funds for its maintenance.

Cerca de finalizar el paseo me atrevía a experimentar tomando una gráfica hacia arriba para capturar los detalles de las muescas sobre los pórticos y los ventanales típicos de éstas construcciones. Hubo un palacio nazarí en España que visité una vez y tenía éste mismo tipo de construcción. Lamento que la sombra no dejara mirar con mayor detalle, pero el sol de la mañana avanzaba hacia mediodía y las imágenes corrían el riesgo de no salir bien. Todavía no domino bien la cámara del Smartphone.
Near the end of the walk I dared to experiment by taking an upward view to capture the details of the notches on the porticoes and windows typical of these constructions. There was a Nasrid palace in Spain that I visited once and it had this same type of construction. I'm sorry that the shadow didn't allow a closer look, but the morning sun was advancing towards noon and the images were in danger of not coming out well. I have not yet mastered the Smartphone camera.
La fotografía final nos muestra la entrada principal de la plaza en todo su esplendor, como tomé la imagen en modo recortado no sale el monumento de "La Girondina" en ella. Demás está decir que luego, en la noche de ayer descubrí el uso del lente gran angular, el cual me habría podido ayudar en la toma. Sin embargo, estoy satisfecho con el resultado porque la imagen se siente natural aunque con mucha resolana por la posición del sol.
The final photograph shows the main entrance of the square in all its splendor, as I took the image in cropped mode the monument of "La Girondina" does not appear in it. Needless to say that later last night I discovered the use of the wide angle lens, which could have helped me in the shot. However, I am satisfied with the result because the image feels natural although with a lot of haze due to the position of the sun.
Caminar la plaza y sus alrededores no lleva mucho tiempo. Lo bonito del paseo es el detalle de la obra y tomar un largo receso en los innumerables bancos que cruzan la plaza. Ver pasar gente es uno de los pasatiempos más agradables de la vida y lo disfruto enormemente. A alguien que ande apurado, el paseo le toma entre 20 minutos a media hora. A mí me tomó cerca de hora y media por el modo de slowmotion en que lo hice. Hasta la próxima.
Walking around the square and its surroundings does not take long. The beauty of the walk is the detail of the work and taking a long break on the countless benches that cross the square. El primer concierto importante en el que yo trabajé (en la parte técnica), fue precisamente en ese maravillosos recinto. Fue un concierto del grupo Arkangel, creo que en el año 79 u ochenta. Yo aproveché para meterme por todos los rincones de esa plaza y llegar hasta zonas que normalmente no daban acceso.

Iba a un lugar que lo llamaba el rincon de los toros, habia muchos consultorios allí, no se si todavia eso esta ahi ; tengo tiempo sin ir a Maracay y veo que le han dado cariño a esos espacios. Hermosas fotografías. Gracias por compartir.
Sí, todavía están esos consultorios allí, lo que sí está sucediendo es la baja cantidad de público, producto de la migración y los paros por la pandemia.
Bueno por esa causa es que no he ido mas a Maracay. Hay mucho COVID, prefiero quedarme en casa de manera disciplinada y así cuido a mi familia.
